Our group of 11 came from Chicago, Salt Lake City, Atlanta, Richmond, and North Carolina and all have been on many Ghost Tours - this blew all of them out of the water! “The most amazing burger I have ever eaten in my life! Our waiter could tell by our faces that we were beyond impressed with the flavor. The meat is local and melts in your mouth. “Our group was out for Savannah PRIDE on Saturday evening, when we were followed and one of the young women in our group was sexually assaulted just up the block from this bar. There were 6 of us chasing the man, screaming and yelling and causing a ruckus. When the cops came and we finally stopped, Bobby and his cousin Dean’s wife (sorry I missed her name) were among only 3 people total who came out to check on us and offer help. After the police took the scum bag away, we went over to Abe’s on Lincoln where we were treated top notch, had some excellent, and very needed drinks, and were able to regain our composure in a safe and friendly environment. The bar was great and we would definitely recommend!“

“O’Connell’s doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t, which is exactly what makes it work. Tucked into downtown Savannah, this is a small, no-frills Irish pub that feels genuinely transplanted from the old country rather than assembled from a “authentic pub” kit. No TVs, no DJ, no gastropub pretense. Just a tight, cozy space with a high-partition bar counter and walls covered in Irish memorabilia, soccer jerseys, countryside photos, the kind of stuff that accumulates over decades rather than gets ordered from a decorator.

Fair warning on the seating: the bench seats are sparse and not exactly plush, a thin layer of foam over wood. Nobody comes to O’Connell’s for lumbar support, though, and somehow it fits. Discomfort that feels intentional is just character.

The atmosphere is the whole point. Conversation flows easily, the room has that rare quality of feeling lived-in and welcoming at the same time, and the staff treat you like you’ve been coming in for years whether it’s your first visit or your fifteenth.

If you’re looking for a lively night out with cocktail menus and mood lighting, keep walking. But if you want a quiet pint in a place that actually feels like a pub, O’Connell’s is the real deal in a city that has plenty of imitations.

“Exceptional staff, great atmosphere. We visited during St Patrick’s Day weekend . The town was crazy and packed . We enjoyed our visit so much because of the stellar customer service and care from Coco and Eden in the basement bar . We even brought our whole group back to drink and eat downstairs because of their excellent service and friendliness .“
