I got the Premium Tendon with crispy tempura over rice: zucchini, sweet potato, shrimp, and chicken, finished with rich dashi sauce and a seasoned egg. The tempura was light, golden, and crisp, and the rice soaked up the savory sauce perfectly.

I also added tamagoyaki, extra shrimp tempura, and zucchini tempura on the side, plus a large Asahi beer, which was a perfect cold pairing with the warm fried tempura. The service was amazing, and the ambiance is incredible for a casual downtown restaurant: bright, energetic, clean, and modern. Great spot for a filling and delicious meal in downtown Honolulu.“

“There is seating and you can bring about four or five people per table. There’s also seating outside. It’s a really cool area of dying with family, friends or coworkers and also there is parking lots of parking right behind. It is literally connected within the storage building. literally it is located across McKinley high school’s football field. It is such a jam. They have really good fish there. The ambience is calm. It’s pretty quiet and next-door they have other high-end restaurants. This is a really good area to be in if you want to hang out with people visiting and or just bonding.“

“Drove here from Wahiawa and through a flash flood and it was still well worth it. I haven’t had a fresh beef patty since living in NYC. Beef and cheese was top notch! I’m not a vegetarian but the impossible beef was also too good to be a meat substitute. They have a sauce that adds a sweet heat and I highly recommend. They were sold out of coco bread when I went but I will be returning. 9.5/10.“

“6/6/2026….Woooww! Picked up our order on the way to a friend’s house up the road and we all dug in right away…didn’t even take pics. Next time. It was a noisy lunch with all 4 of us OOOOOing and OMGing throughout our meal. I had the Sake Garlic Shrimp plate and OMG (lol), it was so full of flavor, and I have never seen so much shrimp on a plate lunch, like ever!! It looked like more shrimp than in the pic on the menu.
I had a taste of everyone’s plate and everything was super delicious. I’m gonna have the chicken katsu next time. It was crunchy and yummy. Definitely gonna be going back…soon. The staff were so sweet and welcoming! Wish we had one on the windward side.“

“My first time here after seeing them on tv. So glad the worker tied the bag of my 3 plates tightly and that they use strong plastic containers. I took a sharp turn and my bag flipped to the side. My food shifted a little in the container, but at least it didn’t spill out or leak out of the containers. Love the hamburger steak with crispy onions! Omg, the special parmesan chicken was huge!! “I found this restaurant by chance. I was taking my son to a tuxedo fitting at Men's Warehouse right next door when I noticed this gem. The food here has great flavor and definitely does not feel like something that was rushed, but actually made with care for the presentation and flavor. The atmosphere was relaxed and clean. We ordered the regular pho, Bun Bo Hue, and steamed lemongrass clams (thai chili). Again, great flavor, fresh garnished and would definitely recommend for anyone in the mood for some great Vietnamese cuisine!“

“I went to several great poke places during my trip to Hawaii, and this one was by far the best. The salad was fresh and the dressing was delicious. They say they don't use frozen fish, so the tuna sashimi was so fresh and the seasoning was perfect, making it the best. Even my 11-year-old son enjoyed it very much!
The owner, Tommy, was very pleasant and friendly.

I ordered broiled saba(mackerel) teishoku. The skin was crispy, the fish was fluffy and had a rich, oily flavor. It even came with grated daikon, and the miso soup was delicious.

“I only found out about Wai Kai a month ago after a friend bought a condo nearby. Since that time, my family and I have been back numerous times to eat at all of their restaurants and attend their Farmer's market. All of the food is outstanding which is why we even went back twice in one day to eat at 2 of their restaurants. They have amazing staff from their manager, Keith, their cooks, and their waiters and waitresses. This place is a hidden gem because it's a family friendly place that has the atmosphere of Waikiki without the crime or crowds. Both kids and adults can come and have a great time whether it's doing a water sport, eating in one of their excellent restaurants, or relaxing on their lawn during the Farmer's market where they have a wide variety of food and local products to choose from.“

We asked for recommendations since we have never been and he pointed out all of his favorites menu items. The restaurant was very busy but he made sure to always check on us and bring our refills when our glasses got low, which we appreciated in this heat. They are responsive to large groups who gather to eat as well as have short meetings during their time there. And, use of their robots to carry the meals to the table saves the wait staff's backs!“
