“During our vacation on the Big Island, we wanted to be sure we visited a coffee plantation. Thunder Mountain was one we found online, which was fairly near to where we were staying in Kailua-Kona, and offered tours and free tastings. Anna was our tour guide, and did an awesome job of explaining and showing things to us. Learned a lot about coffee, how it's grown, how it's made, and had no idea of some of the truths of coffee.....especially that lighter roasts have more caffeine! There are really 2 parts of the tour: the one around the production facility, which they walk you through and explain how it's all done. And then there is a short self guided walking tour around the grounds. I think it's technically free, but they do ask for a $10 donation....well worth it.
The coffee itself is very good.....all of it! But our favorite, and the one we bought a bag of, was the Black and Tan. Great way to spend an hour.“

“I ordered an Acai smoothie with almond butter drizzle. And my mom got a mocha frappe. Both were very delicious! This coffee shop has plenty of parking and seating inside is ample. Great place for families, remote workers or a place to chat with a friend. The baristas were super friendly and helpful when deciding what to order. They have vegan options for drinks here and food. And I loved that they also sold locally made sourdough bread and tons of other goodies sold by local artists and bakers! We also got the chia peanut butter bites that were delicious! You gotta try them! I would highly recommend coming here! They have such a diversity of drink and smoothie and Acai bowl options that you won’t have a hard time finding a drink or snack you like!“

“My boyfriend and I had a lovely cup of coffee here! They have coffee ice cubes, which prevented my coffee from getting watered down (which I hate). I’ve never had this anywhere else on-island! That’s my favorite part about my coffee here. My boyfriend got the cold brew, which actually tasted like cold brew and not just cold coffee, which is common from other coffee shops. The cold brew was smooth and not as bitter as the espresso. I like my coffee strong, but sweet and milky, and I got the White Wash. It was a perfect blend of all those things.

The cashier was very pleasant and personable, and the atmosphere was very cute! Clean aesthetic with live plants that looked well-cared for. Overall I had a great experience, and I was surprised it wasn’t more busy. I think it was because the location isn’t the most ideal. I’ll definitely be coming back.“

“I have always loved the smell of coffee, but unfortunately could not get past the acidic taste. Kona coffee café introduced me to Peaberry Kona coffee. This is the first time that I have ever been able to drink coffee let alone really enjoy it. The friendly staff explained how the volcanic soil and the timing of picking the bean changed the acidity in the coffee. Since being home, I’ve already placed an order and I am enjoying my coffee every morning. Thank you so much for introducing me to this amazing drink!“

Across the street is an ABC store where you can browse after. Inside Hamakua Coffee it is airy and spacious. This place is quite crowded since it's in the center of the tourist area.“

I came here for breakfast twice during my stay, and both meals were great. On my first visit, I got the breakfast croissant and it was delicious. The next day, I decided to try one of their hot sandwiches, and it was also very good—the focaccia bread was nice and fluffy, and the turkey and veggies were cooked perfectly. The tomato bisque soup was a bit too salty for my taste, but everything else hit the spot. My friend had the coffee and mentioned that it was pretty good as well!
The service here is fast, efficient, and super friendly. On the inside, the vibe is very modern, clean, and uncomplicated—an easy, no-frills spot that delivers great food quickly.

“We stayed at the Marriott and swung in to the coffee shop for breakfast. The drinks were perfect - latte had a nice layer of foam, and a heart to boot. The Ube cold brew was unexpectedly delicious - easy to see why it's a staff pick! We tried two different croffles and honestly I dont know why people make real waffles anymore, when they can have one of these instead. The waffle was PERFECTION, layered and crispy and buttery and chewy in the best ways. I ordered the garlic bread grilled cheese and would eat it every day if I had the chance. The chips were nicely seasoned too! Breakfast sandwich was eaten too fast by my husband to take a picture, but I heard it was good.

2 drinks, 2 croffles, grilled cheese and a breakfast sandwich was $58 before tip. Definitely reasonable considering island pricing (I actually think I pay more for a large latte in Minnesota than we paid here!)

11/10 would recommend - we'll probably go back for breakfast tomorrow!“

“Stopped in for an early cup of kona coffee. Literally the best cup of coffee I've ever had! They use plant based creamer only and I don't care for the taste of those in coffee so I opted for black and I'm glad I did. I've been chasing that cup of coffee ever since.
It's not just the beans that make the difference, its the brewing.“
