“This lovely little family business sits just a block away from where my wife used to work. We would get lunch here frequently and it is just a gem of a restaurant. The family that runs this place is always kind and joyful. This is the kind of authentic Mexican food that makes you feel like you just got invited over to your Abuela’s for dinner. It tastes homemade, real, and delicious.
You’ll not find a better spot this side of town for a cozy little mom and pop restaurant.
Stop on by and give these folks some love. They give it right back to you along with a full belly. You won’t regret it.“

“I had never been to the store before, but I had been to others like it. But this place blows the doors off Chipotle.
Margarita helped me pick out what I should eat since I've never been here before. She was behind the counter and it's extremely friendly.
I will definitely be back!!“

“This is approx my 6th taco truck to review in the Boise area as it was close to home and it opened at 10:00 am which was a plus. I ordered the carnitas and the Al Pastor street tacos and enjoyed sitting outside on the lively pick nick tables. They had then ready pretty fast and brought them on a plastic tray which was a nice idea. The carnitas taco was very tender but it needed a bit more spice and crispness and the Al Pastor street tacos were the best I have tried so far. The man and the lady were very pleasant and the price point was 2.50 per taco so they were very reasonably priced. Go support this lovely taco truck here in the Boise area.“

“I’m in Boise for work. I’m from Texas so I know good Mexican food and Tex-mex and this place was very delicious. I had the cabeza and lengua tacos. The meat was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I had some tamales that were also delicious. The masa was different than what I’m used to but delicious. There was a market attached to the restaurant with the basic necessities. I highly recommend. This is the best Mexican food place I’ve had in the north and I travel for work all the time“

“Love that this is a small local place. Food was good. Service fast and friendly. BUT... I checked the menu out on line for carry out. Ordered two combo platters listed at $13.99 each. When I picked up the food, one was $19.99 and the other $18.99. They need to put up a website or figure out how to update their menu on the site that comes up on google search.“

“Food is typically good/decent quality. Service is hit or miss, rarely personable. Best for those on a budget. If you want better quality food and aren't in a hurry and it's not 3am, Go next door to Los Mariachis.
**Update 12/27/2025**
Drive thru service has been much faster lately. Always the same quality (yum). Thank you for draining the chicken more for the burritos, it used to drive me crazy how messy they would be and they haven’t been any more. Always love the red and green salsa too!“

“Back to Greatness!
I stopped in on Thursday for tacos and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by several new faces. It really feels like this location has returned to its former greatness with the recent changes in staff.
The last time I visited a few weeks ago, the lights were all off around 9 p.m., and I thought the store had changed its hours. Jeff, the manager, kindly explained that it wasn’t normal procedure and was very apologetic about the situation.
This visit was a completely different experience—the staff was friendly, the food was fresh and delicious, and everything looked clean and inviting. I’m really happy with the improvements at this location and will definitely be back for Taco Thursday!“

“While the price might be more than TB they keep the place spotless, have TV's. Food is actually made well by people that seem to care a bit. I even skipped out the kitchen and it's clean, not food all over the floor. Good stuff. Thank you Taco Time!“

“California Mexican Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I tried this Boise fast food Mexican restaurant today for the first time. I got the #18 combo, which is 2 Chile Rellenos, Rice & Beans with tortillas for a little less than $10. I went through the drive-through. The service was fast. I was impressed with the weight of the bag. I was even more impressed when I got back to my office and opened up the box. The food looked fantastic! I liked that the Chile Rellenos came with sour cream and a guacamole-like topping. They were made with nice sized poblano chilies. The flavor was good, and they were full of oozing cheese. If I was to rate these based on appearance and flavor, alone, I would rate them 4/5. However, the seeds were not removed from the poblano chilies before cooking them. Every single recipe I’ve seen for Chile Rellenos instructs you to remove the seeds. You don’t realize why that’s important until you get one with seeds. Eating a bunch of hard plant matter along with one’s Chile Relleno is not a pleasant experience. I’m not sure if this was a one off, or if this is how they normally prepare Chile Rellenos at California Mexican Food. The refried beans looked good, but they tasted sour. The rice was OK. I like that the meal comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas. I chose flour. The tortillas seemed thick and homemade.“

“They used to be really good. We liked their Pico de Gallo but now has pungent green bell peppers instead of cilantro. The chicken is hard, dried out, in tacos and burritos. Hope they go back to what they were. We won't go back until they do.“

“Being from AZ, Mexican food is plenty. Birria is the most popular meat ATM. When visiting family my nephew tells me he found a place that does birria and he likes it, it was an instant yes. Meat tender, consume was perfect. I would rank it high if the place was in Phoenix definitely in my top 5 birria spots.“

“Food is always delicious. Servers are friendly and efficient. They check back just enough to not disturb. However, I do feel the prices are high (but that’s par for the course now days). Also, they charge an additional fee if you use a credit or debit card. It’s difficult to stay under $65 with a 20% tip. Our favorites here are the seafood chimichanga and beef fajitas. Delicious.“

“The food and overall atmosphere was great for Sunday brunch, but apparently they employ a DJ to play music on Sundays during brunch which is so loud, it was extremely difficult to carry on a conversation let alone enjoy your meal. My ears are still ringing. My friend and I weren’t the only people in the restaurant requesting the volume to be decreased. Brunch should be a relaxing atmosphere, not feeling like you are at a night club….“
