“I haven't been here in a while to do a full on second review. This place has definitely upgraded from the dingey mess it once was. The have all new flooring. They painted the walls. Really nice TVs. They even have a fireplace display for crying out loud. If you're having an overflow of cars just park across the street which is really niceRick's Kitchen is definitely the best bar food around. I definitely recommend it. Pool table is really great and fun to play with as well... The locals I guess are alright for the most part. On top of it it's got cheap drinks. This place was much better when they had bingo nights here on Mondays. Definite recommend none the less. Oh hey, I forgot, they also got alot machines, tens of TVs which usually play sports.“

“I haven't reviewed this place already?! Well here it goes, I guess: I'm not really a big burger person, but this place has been listed as the Best Burger in the US, multiple times, I believe, so it had a lot of hype to live up to. For not being a burger freak, this place really impressed me, and lives up to it's name.Au Cheval has a smaller, fast food version of the restaurant, which I've tried, prior to my first time here (it's called Small Cheval). Those burgers are fantastic, but the real deal at Au Cheval really takes it a step further.Always great service and team going, including on my last visit. They're conscious of food allergies. Get the burger with a bun, it's great, ...or don't. It's still incredible without. I also love the fries and bone marrow.Usually a decent wait, so go at off times if you want to wait less. Also, they have a pretty cool bar program going.Dietary restrictions: They're good with this here, and can do some requestsParking: There might be valet? Not sure. Take public transportation, pay for street, or a nearby spot.Kid-friendliness: Don't bring them- not that kind of burger joint“

“My first evening in downtown Chicago and I was looking for something a little bit different. A quick search, and I found the purple pig restaurant at the top of my list I mean, come on, purple and pig in the same sentence. This already had me intrigued, even though it was dinner time on Thursday evening, and I found the place to be a little tight, I quickly weeded at the bar. This was perfect since it was just me. I wasn’t super hungry so I didn’t wanna go too crazy but I had seen others rave about the milk braised pork shoulder so that’s what I went after. When they delivered the pork shoulder, moments after I ordered, I realized they delivered it with a spoon. A spoon? I wasn’t sure what to think but being as adventurous as I was, I use this phone to dig into the pork shoulder. The pork shoulder fell apart. I knew I was in for a treat! although I wasn’t super hungry, there was no way I was going to let this pork shoulder go to waste and I cleared my plate. The restaurant also has a very nice selection of wines, but I’m not a wine drinker so I won’t speak on that subject. I don’t usually visit the same place twice during the visit, but I might make a trip back to try the pork belly. Only time will tell! Definitely a great place to choose if you’re in the area.“

“EDIT 03/29/24:Got an email today saying I got a refund for the booking fee as well as the surcharge. I was also told that "The restaurant surcharge is in place to help us offset the rising costs of food, beverage, labor, benefits, supplies, and more. It is added to all checks but can always be removed upon request."I've upgraded my rating to 4/5. I appreciate the response, but I still don't agree with those fees. Just raise your menu prices.ORIGINAL REVIEW:Another toxic Chicago racket. In this one, booking a reservation actually costs you money! Yep - they do not apply the deposit to your final bill or refund it - they just keep the money for you making the reservation. Then, they charge a 3.25% “restaurant surcharge” on your final bill. A surcharge for what exactly??? Covid is over. At least fake it and call it “employee benefit” or some other made up thing. It’s a shame because our waitress was top notch and we would have tipped her 20%, but after deducting the silly surcharge and the deposit it came down to 15%, so good job on screwing over your waitstaff.Vote with your wallet - don’t let them get away with it.“

“The taste was much better than I expected. The two of us spent over 500, with nearly 100 in tips. The A5 Wagyu was more delicious than I imagined, and the oysters are definitely a must-order item at their restaurant. The only issue was personal; I’m someone who doesn’t like being frequently asked "how is everything" while eating. Although the person in charge was very enthusiastic, it was just a bit too much for me. I hope in the future they could pay a bit more attention to individual customer preferences.“

“Update: We were generously welcomed back to Ever for a second go at the experience and it was starkly different and very enjoyable. The food was well executed and the service was incredibly personal. They somehow recognized me and addressed me by first name when entering which was very impressive! Ryan was our sommelier for the evening and his personality and descriptions of the wines were amazing to listen to, and his passion was evident. Paulina's attentiveness and care for our experience was a bright spot as well on the evening. Based on this experience we could definitely recommend Ever, but hopefully you get this the first time around. Thanks Ever team for a great redemption and treating us to a very special evening!Original review for reference:My wife and I dined at Ever for our anniversary this year, and I had contemplated leaving a review but decided to share our experience. We were unfortunately let down. Overall, the food was not what we expected. There were a couple dishes that were very salty, and at least one that just lacked flavor in general. The hamachi was incredible, though, i wish the rest was just as good. The service, although very professional and consice, simply lacked personality and any sense of individualism. It also just felt a bit rushed and that they were on a mission to complete the job. We were asked to supply them with info on special occasions before we arrived, which I did. I expected at least the service staff to be aware of our anniversary but as we walked in the hostess asked us if we were celebrating anything and us telling her was clearly the first time any employee there had heard it. We've dined elsewhere at less rewarded and reputed restaurants where even the valet knew, and we were greeted with a special glass of wine and handwritten note. I don't want to sound pretentious here...but the bill was not light. We spent a significant amount of money at Ever only to leave feeling unfulfilled, and we are not partivularly wealthy. However, we are both in the food industry and looked at this experience as a sort of pilgrimage. Perhaps we should have said something while there but I think we were just a bit shocked. I would not recommend the Ever experience.“

“Truly enjoyed the Puttery experience! We came in on a Saturday during St. Patrick’s day weekend. Fortunately, Ryan advised us to come during a time in which we can enjoy the game and the ambiance. The restaurant/bar area on the 2nd floor was great for eating and obtaining our amazing drinks. They have some of the best mixed drinks in West Loop! The BBQ on Saturday Night was my favorite. We took our drinks to the 3rd floor in the lounge/bar to have a nice, cozy conversation before the game. The patio had some great views of West Loop.We took to the holes when we were all warmed up for our mini golf session. Although the 3rd floor course had flatter and more adventurous areas, the 2nd floor course was more intimate and challenging. There can only be up to 4 people in a traveling group though. My date and I ended up having a fun time.I want to thank Ryan, the manager, for helping to make this a memorable experience. We will be back soon with friends.“

We stood near the bar and the service was impressive for how busy it got. The bartender really could shake those drinks! The $7 teeny espresso martini for me and husband ordered an old fashioned with wild turkey rye $8 ...bartender asked if he wanted to upgrade to the Bourbon the drink increased to $17. He should have said something. Errrr. Seats opened at the bar. (Only can order food if seated) We ordered the mussels which had a lemon vermouth sauce. Dipping the crusty bread in the sauce was my favorite part. The ambiance is fancy and artfully arranged. (4.5/5)“

“I had heard good things about Girl & The Goat, but had never gone in my time living in Chicago... until last night. A friend wanted to get together and snagged the reservation, which she said is VERY lucky cause they go fast. We did go on a Monday night, so it likely helped. We were seated immediately, and the dining room was really nice. It's got a great vibe that feels high-end but not snooty. And chill so you can relax. The plates are meant to be shared, and the recommendation from our server was 4 plates for 2 people. She was very thorough in explaining everything (it was pretty simple to understand but I like to be well-informed, especially in a new place) and they even had interesting spirit-free drinks for folks like me who don't do alcohol. We ordered the goat empanadas, the green beans, the crabby pork belly, and the halibut. Every single plate was not only BEAUTIFUL, but it was also delicious. The empanada shell had a good crunch to it, and the avocado crema was a delight to pair with it. I had never had goat meat before, but it was very mild but flavorful and tender. I expected more gamey flavor, but there was none. The green beans are a star here for good reason. They were cooked to perfection, drizzled with another delectable sauce, and were such a treat for something normally just viewed as "a side."The halibut portion felt... a little small for sharing, but once I tasted it, the portion size to price didn't matter anymore. The fish had such a rich flavor and a lovely sear. And the toppings...I was hesitant to go for the mushrooms. I didn't like those types of mushrooms in the past, but it was a night to be bold and adventurous, so I dove in. At that point, I realized that when I didn't like the mushrooms in the past, it was not the mushroom's fault. It was the preparation. Once the fish was gone, I greedily snagged up the remaining bits of topping and mushrooms. It's too tasty to leave behind! The star for me was really the crabby pork belly. It was the item that drew my interest at the first glance over the menu. The pork belly was -at this point no shock to anyone - perfectly seasoned and cooked. The sort of remoulade sauce that harkened back to the "crabby" portion of the dish name was smooth and yummy, and there were these tiny potato chips in the topping that added the right crunch to the dish.Every dish was a dream to enjoy. I would order any of them again. My LEAST favorite of the four was the empanadas but ONLY because everything else was so fantastically delicious.Food aside, let's talk service. We were never without drinks. Our single-glass drinks came out in a timely manner, and our water cup AND our bottle for the table were never empty. I put the wrapping aside from the napkin, and it disappeared promptly. When our first two plates had come, we were given fresh. They even transferred utensils from our used plate to the clean ones in so smooth a motion. It was like a practiced dance. Our food never felt rushed and was always the perfect temperature by the time we got to eating. Several members of the team saw to us and made sure our needs were met.All of this WHILE SERVING A 17 PERSON PARTY in our section. Unheard of!This was a rare thing for me to go out, and I could not be happier to have had my friend talk me into going. I got to unwind and not worry about a thing. I felt so taken care of and really just got to focus on the conversation and relaxing, which I desperately needed.Girl & The Goat has obviously mastered the craft of providing excellent service and food while making each and every guest in their care feel like the only one. It was a really wonderful experience, and I am looking forward to visiting again and recommending it to everyone. Thanks for a great experience!“

“We were not expecting The Smith to still be on the brunch menu when we arrived but it not only was but absolutely delicious. Our server was attentive and I just cannot adequately express how great the food tasted. I honestly thought the “flatiron” steak would be a little dry, but it wasn’t! In fact, it was one of the best cooked and tasting steaks I’ve eaten. Our son got the strip and he also said it was one of the best he has eaten. My husband got the eggs Benedict and he said it was awesome. The brunch menu was an incredibly great value which included a breakfast cocktail of your choice. This was the first time we have eaten here and it definitely will not be the last. We will come here as often as possible. I do not take great pictures (and had already eaten the eggs off my flatiron steak), but you can see how great everything looked.“

“My wife and I have never been to a Michelin star restaurant and now that we live in Chicago, we had plenty of options. For our second baby moon we decided to treat ourselves to an experience at El Ideas. The whole experience was amazing! The location is really unassuming and not in some pretentious building or area. It was such a laid back yet exquisite experience. Guests were allowed to wonder the space and take in the food preparation. You could ask questions of the chefs. It was really neat and nothing like I've ever experienced. Since there are a limited number of reservations the entire staff is really attune to guests needs. I have no complaints about any of the dishes. Some of the standout dishes were the shrimp dish which was an ode to the history of Chicago fried shrimp. The Swedish style meatball cooked in smoked beef tallow with gnocchi was so well balanced. The smoked duck bahn mi and smoke duck pho was amazing . The Lamb dish was out of this world! I'm still in awe of the vanilla shake and fries dessert. It was truly a work of art. The vanilla with the crunchy potato bits and potato and leak soup just worked. I could take one of those every day. This experience is definitely worth it! I hope to be back in the future!“

“Went to experience Mimi's as fries are my favorite and who doesn't enjoy good tacos. My family and I ordered Birria tacos, loaded Jerk fries, sautéed broccoli and the house made Italian ice. The food was 8/10, I have had the pleasure of tasting other fusion Jerk type tacos in past this was sweet with slight heat and super enjoyable. My only complaint is if I'm going to a place that has Fries in name, I'd like to think fries should be handmade and a star standing alone I don't think that is the case here. The broccoli though was insane with garlic butter, I'd go back just for them tbh.“

“My husband and I really enjoy great service and paired with good food; it is worth our time and money. Even though our visit was on the spur of the moment, we were able to get a great table. We arrived about 30 min to an hour before the restaurant became full. We were treated the same as those who had prior reservations and we were not rushed. The service/sever was great. Alex was very familiar with the menu, providing excellent descriptions of specials . Alex was attentive, checking to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Alex was also kind and friendly. Our meal (roasted chicken) was delicious. The chicken was cooked to perfection….very tender. If we could change one thing (minor) would be the lemon and caper jus. Flavor/taste was good, but it was just a little too much for us….the mash potatoes (which were tasty) disappeared into the jus. Loved the kale…very tender. Now, for the dessert(s); we are not sure how often the dessert menu changes, but the dessert menu on Saturday, April 12, 2024, presented a hard choice. Saving calories, we opted to share….we chose the Pound Cake filled with warm banana pudding, and drizzled with a rum sauce. This dessert was “De-Lish”, and worth every calorie. The pound cake was moist with a nice texture and the banana pudding was warm and full of flavor. Also, the sauce was so delicious, we tried to get every drop off the plate.?Again, we would recommend Chicago Firehouse!“

“Lola’s Restaurant and Bar is easy to find and sits just off Randolph St. in the West Loop (we definitely appreciated avoiding the congestion on Randolph on a Friday night!) The statement-blue “Lola’s” awnings on the front of the building are easy to identify. Surprisingly, there is plenty of inexpensive street parking right on Carpenter St. through the ParkChicago app.Upon entering the restaurant, we peeked through a luxe red velvet curtain and arrived to the artful setting, exposed brick walls, upbeat tempo of atmospheric music, and welcoming face of our hostess. She quickly seated 5 of us at a spacious table whilst my husband fiddled with his parking app. It just so happened that the owners of Lola’s were sitting by the entrance when we arrived, when one of the most amazing displays of hospitality occurred! The credit card associated with my husband’s parking app had expired, so he was quickly trying to update his payment profile when one of the owners came right up to him and said, “I’ll take care of that” and dashed outside to read our license plate and pay for the parking personally on his own app! What a welcoming!Upon being seated, we were offered our choice of beverages. While most in our group ordered from the extensive selection of sparkling and other wines, I was intrigued with the variety of “zero proof” beverages (that can be spiked upon request). I highly recommend the Tropical Turmeric & Ginger Old Fashioned. The fresh ingredients are amazing, including the giant, square orange blossom ice cube that gives the drink a warm orange glow and mild sweetness that balances out the tangy turmeric and ginger flavors. This is actually about the fourth or fifth time I’ve dined at Lola’s, and the main thing that keeps me coming back is the quality and freshness of the food. The menu has something for everyone. Although I’m not a strict vegetarian, I can attest that there are plenty of options for those who don’t eat meat, chicken, or fish. Bar none, my favorite thing on the menu is the Crispy Brussels & Sweet Potatoes, which melt in your mouth! Our table also enjoyed the Greek Chicken Skewers, which were surrounded by scrumptious home-made hummus that we all scooped up with the tasty, crisp, seeded crackers that accompanied this appetizer. The House Meatballs were also a hit—again, surrounded by a delicious marinara and served with large pieces of grilled bread for dipping. For dinner I ordered Lola’s Salad with grilled chicken. It was a decadent portion filled with unexpected surprises like fresh cherry tomatoes, toasted sunflower seeds, garbanzo beans, tidbits of spicy genoa salami, and zingy pickled peppers. I will be coming back for this one, which is a great choice for lunch or dinner. Definitely don’t skip the fresh parmesan on top!Although we were satiated by all the great food, we couldn’t resist the dessert menu. We gleefully shared a giant, warm chocolate chip cookie served in a dinnerplate-sized cast iron pan, topped with a cool scoop of fresh vanilla ice cream. Our server did not disappoint by having individual plates, spoons, and even extra napkins at the ready! All in all, Lola's is a great experience and an excellent value. Some of us brought our extra food home--I'm looking forward to leftovers and adding it to my favorites on Uber Eats!Vegetarian options: Fabulous selection of vegetarian dips, including spinach & artichoke and home-made hummus. DO NOT SKIP the Crispy Brussels & Sweet Potatoes! Also great pasta and salad choices.Parking: I've never had a problem finding parking within 1 block of the restaurant.“

“Last night, my girlfriend and I celebrated her 30th birthday with an unforgettable dinner at Roister. The evening was nothing short of magical, beginning with the Market Oysters that were delicately smoked and served with a tangy mignonette sauce. The shishito peppers, paired with a savory topping, were a burst of flavor that set the stage for the rest of the meal. Each dish was a masterpiece, not only in taste but also in presentation. The Pork Belly was succulent and perfectly seasoned, melting effortlessly at each bite. The Fried Chicken & Caviar was a surprising blend of down-home comfort and upscale indulgence, creating a delightful contrast. The star of the show was undoubtedly the Hearth Grilled Scallop. The cauliflower purée and fresh melon provided a sweet and creamy backdrop to the perfectly charred scallops. Following this was the Blue Crab with sofrito, which was a testament to the chef’s attention to detail and flavor balance. For dessert, the Butternut Squash Sorbet was a refreshing palate cleanser, and the Banana with pecan ice cream ended our meal on a decadently sweet note. Each plate was not only a treat for the palate but a feast for the eyes, served on beautifully curated dishware that enhanced the overall experience. The service was impeccable, attentive without being intrusive, allowing us to savor each moment of our celebration. Roister has truly set a high bar for culinary excellence and a memorable dining experience. Five stars are not enough to capture the essence of our evening. We will definitely be returning!“

“The first thing that I noticed about Amerikas was the super lively and bright ambiance. I went I on a Saturday night with my wife, so I wasn't surprised by all of the people dining and having a good time, and as I ate my dinner I definitely learned why. The decor is bright and fun. The walls are lined by mutuals, mostly yellow, with big splashes of color. I liked how then kept the lights on to keep the atmosphere bright and fun. The food was delicious too. My wife and ordered the pulpo, barbacoa, tacos (shrimp and pork shoulder), tostada de pescado, ceviche and the dragon fruit cheesecake for dessert. I enjoyed all of the dishes, my favorites were the barbacoa and the pulpo. The barbacoa was super flavorful and fell right off the bone, no knife was need. The pulpo was cooked to perfection and was tender and delicious. The risk with pulpo is that it can be chewy and tough, definitely not the case here. One note, the tostada for the tostada de pescado seem a bit too dry, but the flavor of fresh seafood made up for it. If you want a fun show with your food, order the ceviche, it comes out with a cool smoke effect. Overall, the service was fast and friendly, and the overall experience at the restaurant was enjoyable. While they don't have a parking lot, street parking is cheap (at least compared to Chicago) and plentiful. Amerikas is a must visit in Oak Park.“
