“The owner is literally so nice, its my first time and he brought out fresh pita for me and picked out the best hummus, he gave me extra meat & pita wraps and explained what everything was, its so fresh and flavorful and soft and I got two grocery bags FULL of items for $18, i will be coming back here DAILY for my breakfast items, as well as yogurt hummus pita etc. HIGHLY recommend coming here its so worth it!!!“

I don't even particularly like BLTs, but theirs was lovely! The almond, strawberry, and chocolate croissants (that's three separate things...) were out of this world! Welcome! ​It is a small shop with limited seating. I ordered a decaf Americano with pistachio milk and a vegan chocolate chip walnut cookie. Yes; they have a vegan massive cookie ! The cookie was incredible! Even this late at night, the chocolate chips were just super soft and the cookie was delicious but $6.25 for a cookie, darn.

​But the staff—oh my goodness, the staff! The girl that helped us was so, so absolutely sweet. She really made the visit even more memorable.

From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels warm, welcoming, and comforting. The smell of fresh baked bread and pastries instantly makes you feel at home. It’s one of those places that feels special the second you step through the door.
The baked goods here are absolutely amazing. Everything tastes fresh, soft, flavorful, and made with real care. Their Capital Bakery bread is honestly one of my favorite things they’re fresh, delicious, and perfect every single time. You can tell they put effort and love into what they make instead of just rushing things out like many places do nowadays.
What also makes this bakery stand out is the people. The worker there was incredibly sweet, kind, and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Good customer service can completely change how a place feels, and she truly made us feel appreciated and comfortable.
I also love the overall look and feel of the bakery. It has such a cozy and relaxing vibe that makes you want to stay longer and keep coming back. Places like this are hard to find now. If you’re ever in Chicago and looking for fresh baked goods, amazing bread, and a genuinely nice atmosphere, Capital Bakery is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommended!“

“I do think these are the best donuts in Chicago area, or that I've ever had, specifically the glaze and the chocolate. I'm from Texas and have high standards for simple yeast donuts. The Chicago area is really lacking in independent donut shops, so when I found these, I was so happy. I found the original D&Ds location a couple of years ago, but was happy when this location opened as it's closer to me. There is a very professional and kind young man that we've seen work the register at the shop a couple of times, and the owner always offers up samples to newbies, so the service here is great. The food and service are truly 5 stars.
The only downfall of this place is, as other reviews have mentioned, there have been multiple times I've tried to come during business hours, and they are unexpectedly closed for the day. And I'm left heartbroken. To avoid this, I would definitely call before heading there. I won't stop going because I truly believe in their product, but I definitely won't head there unless I've confirmed they're open.“
