“I am late writing my review but I had to write it !! I visited provare chicago On july 8th !! From start to finish this restaurant gets 5 starts . The decor was nice and set a perfect atmosphere for a great night . We were greeted immediately upon arrival and seated within 5 minutes of being there . Once seated the wait staff began their introduction's on drinks and popular menu item's. After my party ordered drinks and appetizers a gentleman came over (not sure if he was the manager) and introduce himself and made sure we were having a great experience. Appetizers were amazing!! We couldn't wait for dinner!! Our entrées we just as good if not better ! Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection! When we didn't think the night could get even better the entire wait staff and the gentleman that came over before stopped and recognized my friend for her birthday and brought over a birthday surprise!! I live 307 miles and this place was definitely worth the drive !!!“

Our waitress taylor was incredible and the manager (so sorry but we never got his name because he was just being so nice to us) was incredible as well. “Great experience at FIYA! Went for an early-ish dinner and it was pretty empty, which I honestly prefer. Tried the brussel sprouts (incredible! My favorite dish of the evening I think), the baba with GF pita (also good!!), grilled halloumi, and the mushrooms.

“We’re huge fans of The Bear, which steered us here on our Chicago trip - so glad we found this place! We loved the mushroom adobo and longnanisa breakfast sandwich! The mango tarts were amazing, as were our lattes. We left with an apple hand pie to eat the following morning, which was still had perfectly crispy pastry. Definitely worth the hour wait to get in.“

“Celebrated my wife’s birthday here with three other families, as we were in Chicago between baseball tournaments. Not only was Coda di Volpe able to accommodate a same day reservation for a large party, but they went above and beyond, from personalizing menus with a birthday wish, to adding a special touch on dessert. With four teenage boys in tow, the menu provided ample carbs and comfort for them while we enjoyed a broad sample of the offerings - all were very happy with their meals! Cocktails and wine selection was also on the mark. Kudos to Jeremy and his staff. We came all dressed in white and he told us he knew he wanted to do something special for our party… they knocked it out of the park! Looking forward to coming back to Chicago and making a beeline for this restaurant… a no-brainer.“

“This place is the coolest bar I have been to in a long time, hip and fun but not pretentious. They paid attention to every detail when building and designing. The white marbel bar has clean lines and looks fresh. All of the hardware finishes look sharp and clean. The patio is large and inviting with a fire place and plenty of tables to sit at. The drink menu is creative and refreshing and the staff is kind and welcoming. I cannot say enough good things about this gem of a bar. I am excited to hang out this fall on the patio by the fireplace with good drink in My hand.“

“Great atomosphere cool concept like how they call out the alcohol and food orders when Ready. The pimento Mac was great flavor, as was the mashed and gravy. Very unique to have boneless breast thighs wing and leg portions battered and fried. Was very good. I just think the sauces were way to pricey at $1.45 a sauce wow even 99 cents seems a lot but would feel better lol. At least give one with the order or reduce the sauce price. But overall they need to spread this concept into more areas for sure out side like in the suburbs“

“I have gone to Andros Taverna for many years now where I am never disappointed and always impressed with the service, the quality of food and ingredients, the atmosphere and the passion in general. Chef Doug Psaltis is a true expert and artist performing at the highest levels. The gyros are the best, best gyros in Chicago by far, the seafood world class, the homemade bread and pita are incredible. The foods and meats are cooked over wood fire, wood fire grilled. We had our daughters baptism catered from here which was excellent assortment of Greek food - this is a Greek restaurant you will go to for many years to come.“

“I had an outstanding experience with Day’s Hot Chicken in Chicago. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top notch. We ordered through DoorDash, and when we called the restaurant, they were incredibly generous. Since we loved the food so much, they went above and beyond by adding extra items like mac and cheese and additional fries. It was a thoughtful gesture that truly enhanced the experience. “Gretel is a much-hyped spot with an expected long wait due to no reservations. Plan accordingly and be prepared for a 2+ hour wait at peak time, and there are plenty of fun spots within walking distance to get a drink while you wait.

Once we were sat, our server was great! Kind and attentive without being overbearing, I always appreciate when we’re left to linger at the table and have a drink before placing food orders and not feeling rushed.

We split the Gretel burger (when in Rome, right?) and the chopped salad. Both were delicious!

The chopped salad is a very hefty portion, better to split amongst 4 people rather than two since we left half of it behind. The cheese ratio was too heavy on the salad (and I can’t believer I’m saying the words “too much cheese”) while the dressing was too sparse.

The burger lives up to the hype for a reason, and nothing more needs to be said beyond YUM!

Gretel is open late and on our way out at about 11pm, things were winding down. So it’s good to keep in mind for when you’re craving a late night bite beyond the usual fast food spots.

Overall, Gretel maintains the reasons it’s well-regarded and I will return to expand my menu choices!“

“A great new spot for brunch! My husband and I went and it was busy but we were able to sit right away. I'm gluten free and I LOVE that everything is labeled with an easy to read GF symbol so it helps me identify what I can and can't eat. The gluten free buttermilk pancakes were excellent. My husband had the corn beef skillet and he said his bloody mary was great as well! We'll definitely be back! Felisa was super friendly and made sure to answer my questions about gluten precautions.“

“Every thing was amazing. But I have to talk about the the chocolate pecan pie. The pie’s flavors were so balanced and precise that it became an argument for the value of small, immediate experiences. We often think fulfillment must come from major achievements or profound discoveries, yet this dessert demonstrated that contentment can originate from something as ordinary as food prepared with intention. The heart is full.“

All our holiday needs were easily available for us. Unfortunately, we moved out to Poplar Grove, Illinois near Belvedere and have missed them greatly. Always love them and it brings a tears to my eyes, that they are still around. God bless them. My parents knew the owners personally.“

I love the gothy-ness of the decor, the decent amount of seating, cool staff-made art for sale, and even the mildly lower lighting (in contrast to other coffee shops that feel retina-burningly bright).
