“Ella’s Grill is such a friendly, amazing, hidden gem in Illinois. Me and my aunt went here and we were immediately greeted with the smell of fresh cooked meats and sweet pastries. I wish I knew the waitresses name because the service was incredible! She had dream catcher earrings and a black flower in her hair. She greeted us as soon as we came in and throughout the entire time we were there she was very efficient and always smiling! I got the Country Skillet and it was incredibly tasty with creamy gravy and such good potato’s! The coffee is super good as-well and the orange juice was super tasty. When we asked for the check the kind waitress gave us a warm smile and a piece of candy as she thanked us. As we left the cook thanked us as-well and was very nice to us. “Bluegrass Restaurant is a wonderful, family-owned restaurant. We have been ordering takeout and eating in since we came to Highland Park three years ago. The owners take pride in managing the restaurant on a daily basis. They prioritize customer service, great food, and a warm, welcoming experience. Last night, they hosted the Highland Park/Highwood Professional Moms group. We had only expected 15 women to attend, but 25 women ended up coming. The owners and the staff were AMAZING. They brought over additional chairs. They provided us with top-notch service, including separate checks. This attention to detail reminded me of my family's restaurant, where my dad would famously say, "Idlis are never sitting around waiting for customers; instead, our customers patiently wait for fresh idlis steamed to order!" After fifteen minutes, the chairs distract from the experience, an avoidable misstep in a restaurant that otherwise understands ambiance. Service, by contrast, was a highlight. Our server struck an engaging balance between edgy and personable, and—most importantly—demonstrated genuine knowledge of the menu and wine list. Wine selections, guided by their recommendations, were uniformly well received by the table, showing thoughtful pairing and sound judgment. The meal began on a high note with excellent crusty bread, a simple but well-executed opening gesture that set expectations optimistically. The entrées, however, struggled to rise beyond adequacy. While none were poor, they failed to deliver the refinement or depth one hopes for. “Absolutely love Tala. I firstly want to emphasize how friendly the staff is. They've helped me many times as a new-to-coffee drinker and are always very accommodating. The menu features many classics but their specials menu is where it's at, and rotates throughout the year. But their matcha is the best and has officially made me a matcha lover. Also love their small but delicious baked goods options, which include gluten free muffins! Great atmosphere, plenty of seating, and typically quiet atmosphere with easy parking, but can get quite busy at peak times, especially weekends.“
