“Fortunate to snag a week one reservation at the Barn’s additional location in Amy Morton’s home turf Highland Park. There were a few minor week one issues not worth detailing and most importantly, both our server (Sharolanna?) and Morton were fully engaged in learning and adjust mode.

We started with a little gem salad - I think a different lettuce was used - that was a solid intro including bacon and anchovies. They offered to pre plate it into two portions. We also went for the generously-sized shrimp cocktail, the sauce for that was very tasty but didn’t completely overwhelm.

As mains we had a crab cake and a flat iron steak, with a side of mushrooms. We really wanted to order all the sides, they all sound delicious. The couple at the next table remarked that the mac&cheese side is fantastic. The crab cake was perfect as was the steak. I ordered medium rare and it had a lovely outside char and red center as expected. Bernaise sauce paired well as did the mushrooms, which were flavorful and simple.

The room is a little loud but that may also have been a function of the particular table. It is steakhouse sexy with exposed brick and wood paneling, including the ceiling. The bar includes a framed counter facing into the room, so it feels like there’s a bit of a scene in a good way going on there. And like the Evanston location, the bar design itself is rich and striking. We can’t wait to go in on a weeknight and grab happy hour $1 oysters along with a burger or Monday special prime rib sandwich.

“We were waited on by Jonathan, who had quite the pleasant demeanor when he arrived. He quickly got our appetizer (wild shrimp) and bread, filled our waters. Soon the luscious steak came. I mean, you can't beat it for taste and value anywhere. I found him (Jonathan) thoughtful when he asked if we wanted more water to go. He and the whole staff deserve your good tips. They've made this Longhorn a very pleasant eatery. Alejandra and one other hostess at the door gave such bright smiles, it made our night. Thanks all!“

“First time at this location as we were visiting my son and daughter in law and was truly disappointed about dinner . Ordered herb crusted chicken with a side kick of shrimp and got a plain grilled chicken breast and let manger know and she offered nothing but got a new actual herb crusted chicken 15 minutes later after everyone was about done with dinner ! Been to Texas by our house several times and ordered this same thing and never got this kind of service ! Not even a sorry let me make it right !“

I must have called 6 times changing the number of people and requesting a round table and they were so patient and accommodating. The only knot I had was the price on the wine. My merlot was nice. Since I buy these bottles for myself at home,just thought the mark- up was a bit on the high side.“

“The “Codfather”cod sandwich was very disappointing. The steak burger made with ground filet mignon sounded like a great idea, but the texture of the meat was the same as the texture of the bun; it was a bit off putting. The hamburger was good, as was the French dip sandwich. The fries were good, also. And, as always, the carrot cake was excellent. The service and ambience were both great. Sometimes a visit, even to a restaurant, isn't all about the food. We had a lovely time.“
