“We’re not from around here and I’m SO glad we gave this place a try. Everything was great! Service, environment, food, quantity and prices. I wish we could bring them home with us! We tried taco dinner(asada, lomo & al pastor) and chimichanga. Salsa and chips served and they make fresh guacamole to your liking. Loved it!!! Our horchata and Jamaica were super large cups and tasted delicious and fresh. 100% recommend this little place.“

Communication was top-notch, portions were huge, and the food was incredible. Guests couldn’t stop talking about the juicy chicken and steak, the homemade chips and salsas, and guacamole that could honestly be eaten by the spoonful. “Ever since our former far north side Mexican go-to restaurant had a fire and reopened without the same quality of food we used to love, my partner and I have been looking for a new delivery and eat-in joint. We love how awesome the universe of Mexican food is here in Chicago but a lot of the eateries on the far north side are just kind of meh. Nobody deserves to eat meh Mexican food in Chicago, ever. It took us a year and a half to finally find Taqueria El Charro and we’re completely blown away. I’ve lived in Chicago for 21 years and he’s lived in Chicago almost as long. I used to teach English in Pilsen. Once I had a chance to move back home to New York City and I sat in a Chicago Mexican restaurant at 18th and Ashland and cried because I didn’t want to leave Chicago Mexican food behind. So, this place has some of the best Mexican food I have ever eaten here in my adopted hometown. I don’t say that lightly. You don’t kid around with Mexican food in Chicago. I cannot emphasize how quietly awesome this place is.“

“I sat in and got the birria tacos, and they were SO good. The horchata, churros, rice, and beans were delicious and tasted authentic too. I’m extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food, so I don’t say this lightly, but everything tasted so fresh and flavorful. The owner was also incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel really warm and comforting. You can really tell they care about the food and the people who come in.

“I just found out about this place and called for pick up just before they were going to close. He is so nice and genuine to speak with on the phone, my food was hearty and savory. The atmosphere is fun and colorful and I ended up getting the last slice of Flan!

“Last week I was on my way to take my son for a haircut and decided to stop and eat here. It was my first time. Service was great and food delicious. I was not having a good day but tried my best to not show it. As I'm eating I saw a man come in. Eat by himself and then left. My surprise when I went to go pay. This man had paid for my food. Who ever it was Thank you so much if this is ever read. That was a beautiful gesture and completely made my day. I got my son his haircut and took him for some ice cream afterwards. I will definitely pay it forward“

The meat was perfectly seasoned, tender, and packed with flavor. Both the flour and corn tortillas tasted incredibly fresh, like they were just made. The salsa was delicious and clearly homemade bright, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the tacos. And the guacamole? Absolutely perfect. No extra salt needed just fresh, balanced, and spot-on.
