“I've been eating beef sandwiches for 50 plus years. I've had most of the classics from most of the legendary places in Chicago and Burbs. Today was the first time I've ever tried Pop's. We stopped on the way home at the Weber Ave store. Let's start with the two young ladies working the counter. Super friendly, helpful, and very professional. I ordered two Beefs with sweet and hot extra dipped, a hot dog with everything plus extra onions, and a large fry. That was for me and the wife unit.
The had my order up pretty quickly. When she handed me the bag, I did a double take. This thing was HEAVY. We got home and dove into the beef sandwiches right away. This is honest to goodness true Italian Beef in every sense of the word. My mother in law is from Italy and when my now wife and I were dating she used to make a big huge beef roast with her own version of classic Italian Gravy. That would go with all the other dishes. Sunday dinner at their house was a 4 to 5 hour affair of dining, talking, relaxing, and drinking a few adult beverages all the while. Pop's beed brought me right back to her dining room table way back in the 70's. It's just right, tender beef, a wonderful true Italian thin gravy and classic old school flavor. Perfection.
They dipped it so well I needed a knife and fork which was so awesome. The size of the regular sandwich is very generous and worth every penny of the 8.99. The sweet peppers were amazing and plentiful, and the giardiniera was very fresh, very tasty, and not so spicy that it burn your mouth. A perfectly constructed masterpiece of a beef sandwich. I give it 4 3/4 stars. The hot dog comes with a mountain of fries and has the classic Chicago toppings. The sport peppers with the hot dog are the same ones Jim's Original in the city uses. None are better than those. They're huge and so tasty.
To sum it up, we've found our new favorite Beef joint for sure. IMHO, Portillo's hasn't been the same since Dick sold it. Not only that, but it's not nearly as big or juicy as Pop's and it costs the same. BTW Pop's includes the peppers, just like it used to be back in the day. My hat is off to the person that owns this store. I used the men's room while I waited and it was spotless too. A great sign of a very well taken care of restaurant. We'll be back often. 4 3/4 stars....easily“

“First time dining here as a long time Cooper's Hawk lover. Everything we ate was really good, the squash blossom appetizer was definitely the star of the show. I had the spicy calabrian shrimp pasta, very tasty sauce wasn't too rich. Pasta was very good. One of my friends also had a pizza with their yellow sauce which was extremely tasty. I'm definitely going to try a version of that next time we go back. The other Superstar was one of their desserts, the blueberry and peach crostada. I didn't have much room left at that point of the meal but I still managed to get couple three bites and, will definitely get again. Service was phenomenal. It's a nice little restaurant atmosphere.
