“I recently visited this spot and tried the Nova Lox Bagel. While the bagel itself was fresh and well-toasted, the salmon was a letdown. Nova lox is typically known for being less salty than regular smoked salmon, but in this case, it was overly salty and overwhelmed the other flavors. The toppings, like cream cheese, capers, and onions, were well-balanced, but the saltiness of the salmon really detracted from the overall experience.
I also decided to try the apricot cookie, but that turned out to be a mistake. I was surprised to learn it cost nearly $5—far more than I expected for a single cookie. Unfortunately, the taste was disappointing; it was so unpalatable that I couldn’t even finish it. The texture was dense and off-putting, and the apricot flavor was barely there. It felt like a waste of money, and I left feeling dissatisfied.
The prices were reasonable for the bagel, but the quality didn’t fully match my expectations. As for the cookie, it was overpriced and not worth trying again. Overall, a mixed experience—there’s potential, but the execution fell short.“

“Highly recommend - I'm a picky eater and I pay attention to hygiene in a food store - the pastries were super-fresh and delicious“

“We drove from Genoa City Wisconsin because we heard how delicious everything was. We were NOT disappointed. The meat on our sandwiches, one corned beef and one pastrami, was piled high! Homemade brined pickles and bakery items exceeded our expectations. Worth the drive and we will be back.“
“I like the taste of the sugar-free whole wheat bread. The only reason it's lacking a star is because there's no nutritional information on the label. How many calories? How many carbs?? Being a diabetic, I'm trying to stay below 15 gms of carbs per slice. Those pan-style breads (Pepperidge Farms) have too much added sugar and are 22-27 gms per slice!!“
“Company is good , & good serivice to unload your truck , but place is reduced, crowded, specially with a trailer on that side. Plan good to do set up, I had single axle & it was not the best experience with a guy fixing the trailer in the moment.“
“Oakton Bakery is a true neighborhood gem. Tucked away on Oakton Street, this family-owned spot has that old-school charm you don’t find much anymore—and the baked samoon speak for itself.
I’ve been coming here for a while now, and every visit is consistently excellent. The service here is warm and personal. You can tell the father and son duo take pride in what they do, and they’re always happy to offer recommendations on what to enjoy your freshly baked samoon bread with.
Aside from the bakery, Oakton Bakery doubles as a small Middle Eastern grocery store, with a great selection of imported goods—spices, olives, tahini, labneh, and much more. It’s convenient to grab everything you need for a full meal in one stop.
I would HIGHLY recommend coming to Oakton Bakery for a taste of the Middle East!“

“I went yesterday when visiting Chicago. I had never had it before but I went by the recommendations of Skokie residents and I was very impressed. I took 6 desserts home to Kentucky and my only regret is I didn’t take more oatmeal raisin cookies. Those were absolutely phenomenal.“
