“Some of the best pastries I have ever had! I have been there several times now and plan to keep going. Service has always been quick and efficient. Staff is polite, cafe is kept very clean, there is a little play area for kids, and they even have Mahjong tables you can rent for free! I plan to play Hong Kong style with some friends in September. “oh my gosh, Hewn is so cool – – such inventive and hearty and wholesome and beautiful flavor combinations – – I especially love what they do with fruit and nuts. I’m not surprised at all that their holiday special offerings sell out so quickly – – This is a special kind of bakery – – not too refined as to only have the sweetest and most delicate of desserts – – but more of a chefs kind of place – – you know the ingredients are going to be the finest out there. My only quibble is the inflexibility with the vegetarian sandwiches in their refrigerator – – the staff would not make me a fresh sandwich. But this is a minor quibble. I really do recommend them without reservation.“

“FYI- don’t take photos. I got into trouble for taking a picture. Wish they had a sign on the door that read “No pictures taking allowed”. Their food is very natural flavor that isn’t artificial anything. No high fructose corn syrup or anything super rich with flavor. To me everything tasted dull. I tried the brownies and they weren’t anything I would indulge in again. very light and natural. I did like the macaroons, those were excellent. I will definitely be buying them again. We spent $185 and pre-ordered our food for a mother’s day gift. We had to come and pick it up which was over an hour drive. But it’s the only place I know that makes 100% Organic since whole foods sold out to Amazon.“

Nova lox is typically known for being less salty than regular smoked salmon, but in this case, it was overly salty and overwhelmed the other flavors. The toppings, like cream cheese, capers, and onions, were well-balanced, but the saltiness of the salmon really detracted from the overall experience.

I also decided to try the apricot cookie, but that turned out to be a mistake. I was surprised to learn it cost nearly $5—far more than I expected for a single cookie. Unfortunately, the taste was disappointing; it was so unpalatable that I couldn’t even finish it. The texture was dense and off-putting, and the apricot flavor was barely there. It felt like a waste of money, and I left feeling dissatisfied.

The prices were reasonable for the bagel, but the quality didn’t fully match my expectations. As for the cookie, it was overpriced and not worth trying again. Overall, a mixed experience—there’s potential, but the execution fell short.“
