“So today I had a friend in from out of town and we topped off our afternoon with a visit to Miski Bakery. I was dying to try the alfajores, and they did not disappoint! The very delicate morsels melted in our mouth, and the creamy luscious dollop of dulce de leche caramel was a perfect pairing. In addition we tried the Milhojas/Napoleons in two flavors the Lucuma pastry creme and also the dulce de leche. A thousand layers is correct, these were amazingly tall, crispy and filled with air, both were delicious but the Lucuma(a Peruvian fruit) pastry creme was the standout. It had such a delightful delicate flavor I had never tasted previously. After speaking with Carmen the owner I asked whether or not they ever carried Turrón de doñja Pepa. She just happened to have some freshly baked sitting on the tray behind the counter, but alas it was still awaiting its filling. This gives me a great reason to return and indulge in that special treat. It is prepared every other week. The service was warm and friendly. This is definitely a hidden gem in the neighborhood you shouldn't miss out on. I will be returning often.“

“There's a reason the line here is sometimes half a block long. The scones and banana bread are out of this world but the Olive oil cake is among the tastiest things I've had. Regardless of the time of day or how crowded they are the staff is friendly and incredibly efficient. I've never had to wait on my order for more than a couple of minutes. Chef George provided all the necessary instruction and supplies - including a lively starter - for students to start their own sourdough journey at home. The class included hands-on experience feeding the starter, as well as folding and shaping the dough. I had a great time at the class and can't wait to return to try out the breakfast and lunch menu at The Ancestral Oven Bakery and Cafe.“

“Mr Cake Never Disappoints. The staff is so incredibly friendly and pay attention to detail. Their cakes are always rich in flavor, soft and never dry. I have ordered a lot of cakes from them in the past but this time around I had to order my cake over the phone since I could not make it in. I had full faith in them to design my daughter’s cake with one request, light pink with white flowers. I knew I was going to love whatever design they came up with because they are just that good. When I went for the first time I needed a seller because this work like self service, they help me and were so kind. Cookies are expensive but so delicious. The store is too small and it’s confuse because there are two lines, one for order and one for pickup, because of the size of the store it’s kind a mess“

“I do think these are the best donuts in Chicago area, or that I've ever had, specifically the glaze and the chocolate. I'm from Texas and have high standards for simple yeast donuts. The Chicago area is really lacking in independent donut shops, so when I found these, I was so happy. I found the original D&Ds location a couple of years ago, but was happy when this location opened as it's closer to me. There is a very professional and kind young man that we've seen work the register at the shop a couple of times, and the owner always offers up samples to newbies, so the service here is great. The food and service are truly 5 stars.
The only downfall of this place is, as other reviews have mentioned, there have been multiple times I've tried to come during business hours, and they are unexpectedly closed for the day. And I'm left heartbroken. To avoid this, I would definitely call before heading there. I won't stop going because I truly believe in their product, but I definitely won't head there unless I've confirmed they're open.“

“We love Eli’s Cheesecake in Chicago and have been coming every year ( at least 10 years as of now) to pick up cheesecakes for the holidays. We usually buy 20+ cheesecakes for our friends and neighbors, and the service is always wonderful. Rosa, the store manager, was always especially kind and helpful during our visits. So and Bryan and the rest of the team this past holiday were friendly and helpful too.
