“Butcher & the Bear is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels welcoming, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. It strikes the perfect balance between elevated and comfortable.

The food is outstanding. Every dish is beautifully presented and full of flavor, clearly made with care and high quality ingredients. You can tell a lot of intention goes into the menu, and it truly shows. The cocktails are just as impressive and are creative, well balanced, and memorable.

What really sets this place apart is the service. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and warm without ever feeling overbearing. They make you feel genuinely taken care of and excited to be there.

Whether you are going for a date night or a relaxed dinner with friends, Butcher and the Bear delivers on every level. Easily one of my favorite spots in Chicago and I will absolutely be back.“

“We were looking for a new restaurant to try. A neighbor of ours highly recommended this place and raved about the steaks and mussels. We had 6 pm reservations and were seated promptly. It was crowded and loud with background music. We asked for the volume to be turned down which they did. The wine and craft cocktail list is broad and extensive. I wanted to try their mule with Icelandic Vodka but the Tom our waiter strongly recommended a new addition of wine which was a malbec. It was a wonderful recommendation. Tom recommended a chardonnay for my wife and a cabernet sauvignon for our friends; everyone enjoyed their wine. Tom was spot on with his recommendations. The service was attentive, friendly and helpful. Tom stopped by several times during our meal, checking in, did we need anything, how was our meal, another drink etc... My friend had the mussels, and his wife ordered a salad and crab cakes; which they couldn’t finish. They brought home leftovers and they thoroughly enjoyed their dishes. My wife had a filet while I had the New York strip; both of our dishes were delicious and yummy. We had leftovers as well. The portions here are huge. Bring an appetite. I had the baked horseradish crust; it had no taste and it was burnt. The kitchen was busy and it was difficult to get our table of food out together with a crust. Despite this the meal was worth it. We did not feeled rushed and we were able to freely talk. Tom offered drinks and desserts after dinner, but we were full, but their coffee and espresso were spot on. We found our new restaurant; it is a must-see and a must-try. We will return.“

“We visited this amazing establishment last night and ordered the filet and the Manhattan strip for our entrées with a side of the mushrooms, and it was possibly one of the best steaks we had had. Our server and Jesse was wonderful, and when he wasn’t available home, there was another manager who came and brought items out, so there was no delay in service while he was attending another customer and socialized at the table. We dined outside on the patio underneath the heat lamp and lights. The Barn was the perfect atmosphere for our relaxing evening together. We were very pleased with all that we ordered as well as the service. We would highly recommend the Barn restaurant to others.“

“In a town known for great steak restaurants, EJs, is my favorite. Their steaks and seafood are outstanding, their sides and desserts wonderful, and their wine list never disappoints. Throw in a cozy atmosphere with wood paneling and the smell of the fireplace. The best part is the service. From the moment you arrive until you get back in your vehicle their service is unmatched with a staff of professionals who have been there for years. I highly recommend EJs and look forward to our next visit!“

I ordered a New York Strip, medium, and we all ordered sides to share we ordered mac and cheese, asparagus, and another potato side with crispy cheese on top! “I can't believe we have such a great steakhouse in Highland Park now. We were there as a group of 6 that ordered steaks, burgers and veggie sides and the chef nailed it all. The skirt steak was incredible. Probably the best I had. My friends were very happy with their filets. The potato was creamy and super tasty as well, along with the asparagus. The prices are downtown prices and I think it was worth it. I would definitely go back soon“

“Absolutely amazing!!!! The very best kosher restaurant I’ve ever been to! Kosher fine dining at its finest! My husband and I agree it was the best meal we’ve ever had. He had the surprise steak which was phenomenal! I had the short ribs which were perfection! We enjoyed soups, appetizers, sushi, the works. Just when we thought we were full to the brim and could not squeeze one more but in, I couldn’t resist the dessert menu. Somehow we practically managed to lick the plate of peanut butter mousse clean! It was the most wonderful evening! The ambience is wonderful! The service is superior to any other place I’ve been to. “Well worth it! I cook steaks regularly but I very much enjoyed the quality of the steaks here.

You get a complimentary side of warm, fresh-baked brown bread while you order, and the food comes out quickly and piping hot. The outlaw ribeye is definitely their best item, it comes out as this huge bone-in steak that seems almost bigger than their advertised 24oz. size. It has a great crust with visible grill marks and a rich smoky flavor from the char-grilling.

The sides were also great, with a simple but satisfying Caesar salad with a flavorful dressing and crisp lettuce, and a premium side of brussel sprouts roasted and tossed in a sweet and savory honey glaze. They complimented the steak nicely and rounded things out.

The bill at the end is a bit high, but I felt that it was definitely well worth it considering the variety of food items and their outstanding quality. The steak was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor and texture and the sides were fresh and flavorful, certainly more work than I'm willing to do at home even if I considered the potential price savings versus eating out.“

I must have called 6 times changing the number of people and requesting a round table and they were so patient and accommodating. I'm sorry I don't remember the names I spoke with on the phone but they were wonderful. Our server Miguel was great, we wanted for nothing and the room we were in was outstanding. “My friend a d I ordered a 40 oz porterhouse steak to share. It was excellent and plus. Our waiter was very attentive and addressed all out requests. The price was high as it was Ruth's Chris. The only knot I had was the price on the wine. My merlot was nice. Since I buy these bottles for myself at home,just thought the mark- up was a bit on the high side.“
