The drinks were the highlight—well made, consistent, and exactly what you want when you’re out for a good time. The atmosphere also stood out in a good way. It had a lively, comfortable vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening without feeling too crowded or overwhelming.
Service was another positive. Attentive without being overbearing, and everything came out in a timely manner. You could tell they were on top of things, which always makes a difference.
Food was a bit more middle-of-the-road. We tried the jalapeño poppers, and while they were decent, they didn’t quite stand out compared to everything else. Not bad by any means, just not the star of the show.
All in all, Spanky’s delivers where it counts—great drinks, good service, and a fun atmosphere. If you go in expecting a bar-first experience with solid food on the side, you’ll leave happy.“

Tonight my mom in law and I split a slab! 🔥🔥 I'm a "tester" of ribs...and believe me when I say....I will ALWAYS be going for these EVERY time! NO sauce needed!! (And besides....I'll be supporting my son while he works there 😍). We met the owner, he asked how we enjoyed our time. “I’ve been all over the U.S. and by far this is the best bar I ever been too mostly locals but great company would 10/10 recommend if you are stopped in the area, only downside they don’t serve food but if you get food nearby feel free to bring it with you but there are plenty of options nearby!!“

“A nightclub in the middle of Harvey. And...it...was....bumpin!!!! On a Thursday!!! Just wow!!! The bar inside is fairly small but well appointed. Since it s summer? They had 3 huge tents...and a great sou d system. It was not only loud? But clear. You could hear the music clearly and the lyrics were clearly discernable from several blocks out. Wow Smittys!!! You are winning!!!
The security was also excellent. With the sidewalks all blocked off......with horses and tape and rope. Done well. Bumpin in Harvey!!! If u want a black owned nightclub? With great music? Atmosphere? Vibe? With young AND grown people? You ve found it!!!!
I only gave the food the rating I did because I didn't have any. When I do? I ll add to the review.

“The history of this tavern is one of the best in Lake County Indiana. Positioned in what used to be an old Indiana town where the stagecoach used to stop here to give its passengers a rest, eats and drink. “A very clean bar. I didn't eat anything there or even know if they have a kitchen. The bartender was very nice and outgoing. The crowd was like an after work crowd. We were meeting friends there to go to a ball game. Had a great time, the time we were there. I would go again.“

“We love Brewhouse and visit at least a couple times per month. They rotate their drink menu, there are always good local options (e.g., IPAs, Stouts, Lagers, Sours, Ciders), and they have a nice outdoor seating area that can be used during the warmer months. The bartenders are nice and playful and their food menu includes some clearly identified vegan options. They also have a couple of old arcade games you can play for free and have a bingo night, which is fun.“

“We went there for the Halloween bash yesterday. If you haven't been here before, be fore warned they do allow smoking here, so you know ahead of time. So don't complain about it, vote with your dollars if that isn't your thing. Normally it isn't mine, but we met some folks up there so no biggie.“

“Great pizza, but dropped the ball with service on recent visit. This is one of our favorite places for pizza in the area, and we go there regularly. The food is always good, but today, we sat there for over 20 minutes without a single person stopping by to offer us water, offer to take our drink order or even just acknowledge our being there. It wasn’t even especially busy - most tables were empty. We gave up and went somewhere else.“

“I have seen this place there since I was young. we were out with some friends and decided to swing in. It is a quaint, little old homey bar. we loved it!!! The building looks like it is original to the town. (I love old vintage buildings, etc). We bought a round of drinks, hung out for a while, shot a game of pool. The customers and the bartender were very friendly!! Be aware they are a cash only bar (they do have an ATM inside) and it is a smoking bar so if you are sensitive to smoke. We will be back!! The one thing I noticed they changed the sign in the parking lot they had for years. I loved how it had a picture of the parking lot and had some cars, but also had a snowmobile and motorcycle parked together. Odd combination....but humorous!! 🤣 We will be back to support this local business!!“

“The joy I feel when I go to Home Plate Pub is indescribable! The bartenders are the friendliest and most efficient in all The Ville! The quality of the coke has gone down a bit, but the patrons that frequent Home Plate are some of the finest people that you’ll ever meet. The only other bar in Hessville that was FAR SUPERIOR the Home Plate was Brothers II, and sadly that fine establishment is no longer in business! RIP RON & SUE“

Lots of remodeling, new pool tables, I had even recommended her to get a pinball machine in there because me n my friends love pinball, well low an behold SHE'S GOT ONE COMING THIS WEEK!!! The crowd is mixed from young to old n black to white to Mexican NOBODY IS EVER SINGLE OUT HERE AND NOT WELCOMED.“
