“I come here every week or so with my 3yo nephew and it’s our favorite spot. We’ll get some pizza, maybe something from the salad bar or mac and cheese or soup from inside the Whole Foods, and grab some food and I’ll get a drink from the bar. They have a bunch of card and board games to play while you’re there. I also love the outdoor seating in the summer; they have a tv outside too to catch the game, as well as two tvs inside. Matt is amazing and knowledgeable about the drinks and food, and is very kind to us. We truly look forward to seeing him on our visits. Highly recommend to anyone who wants some good food, drinks, and vibes! :)“

“We come here from a western Chicago suburb because the food has always, always been great. My husband loves the frog legs and I love the perch, the best perch I’ve ever eaten, truly. We came here on Thursday evening, a real spur-of-the-moment thing and weren’t disappointed. This time I ordered the walleye pike & found it delicious. Two big filets of it which I enjoyed thoroughly. My husband got the frog legs as usual; neither of us went away hungry & loved everything. It’s dismaying to hear that others have had bad service or less than excellent food; we have never had that experience in the last 15 years that we’ve come here. A terrific night out! “We initially came to La Carreta Restaurant & Bar in Schererville with a BIG group for a surprise party, so the seating situation was a little daunting at first. My family of four simply wanted to enjoy dinner and leave, and after a little confusion and negotiation, the staff graciously allowed us to have our own table. Once that was settled, it was smooth sailing!

We immediately ordered two strawberry margaritas and one lime margarita on the rocks. They were made perfectly—exactly what we were hoping for! 😊

Our family ordered two Texas steak, chicken & shrimp fajitas, three shrimp tacos, and a Texas Burrito loaded with everything. The steak was tender, the shrimp was juicy, and the chicken was seasoned to perfection. The flavor of the food was unmatched compared with similar restaurants in the area. Everything was absolutely delicious! I was only able to capture a picture of the fajitas, but trust me, everything was flavorful.

Our waiter, Jaime, was wonderful—truly one of the best servers we’ve had in a very long time. He was attentive, personable, and made the experience feel welcoming and memorable.

“Great pizza, but dropped the ball with service on recent visit. This is one of our favorite places for pizza in the area, and we go there regularly. The food is always good, but today, we sat there for over 20 minutes without a single person stopping by to offer us water, offer to take our drink order or even just acknowledge our being there. It wasn’t even especially busy - most tables were empty. We gave up and went somewhere else.“

“I was looking for a close spot to have a cold beer and grab a bite to eat in-between my daughters volleyball games and stumbled upon the gem called R Place. This spot is great! I was told that they have been in business 42 years! WOW, and I can see why. They are very friendly and treat you well. The food is fantastic and the locals are very laid back and make you feel welcome as well. If I was local to the area, this bar would be my base! A throwback feel to the better times, in my opinion. 5 ✨'s! I hope to get a chance to visit again.“

“I have seen this place there since I was young. we were out with some friends and decided to swing in. It is a quaint, little old homey bar. we loved it!!! The building looks like it is original to the town. (I love old vintage buildings, etc). We bought a round of drinks, hung out for a while, shot a game of pool. The customers and the bartender were very friendly!! Be aware they are a cash only bar (they do have an ATM inside) and it is a smoking bar so if you are sensitive to smoke. We will be back!! The one thing I noticed they changed the sign in the parking lot they had for years. I loved how it had a picture of the parking lot and had some cars, but also had a snowmobile and motorcycle parked together. Odd combination....but humorous!! 🤣 We will be back to support this local business!!“

“The joy I feel when I go to Home Plate Pub is indescribable! The bartenders are the friendliest and most efficient in all The Ville! The quality of the coke has gone down a bit, but the patrons that frequent Home Plate are some of the finest people that you’ll ever meet. The only other bar in Hessville that was FAR SUPERIOR the Home Plate was Brothers II, and sadly that fine establishment is no longer in business! RIP RON & SUE“
