“I come here every week or so with my 3yo nephew and it’s our favorite spot. We’ll get some pizza, maybe something from the salad bar or mac and cheese or soup from inside the Whole Foods, and grab some food and I’ll get a drink from the bar. They have a bunch of card and board games to play while you’re there. I also love the outdoor seating in the summer; they have a tv outside too to catch the game, as well as two tvs inside. Matt is amazing and knowledgeable about the drinks and food, and is very kind to us. We truly look forward to seeing him on our visits. Highly recommend to anyone who wants some good food, drinks, and vibes! :)“

“We come here from a western Chicago suburb because the food has always, always been great. My husband loves the frog legs and I love the perch, the best perch I’ve ever eaten, truly. We came here on Thursday evening, a real spur-of-the-moment thing and weren’t disappointed. This time I ordered the walleye pike & found it delicious. Two big filets of it which I enjoyed thoroughly. My husband got the frog legs as usual; neither of us went away hungry & loved everything. “Great pizza, but dropped the ball with service on recent visit. This is one of our favorite places for pizza in the area, and we go there regularly. The food is always good, but today, we sat there for over 20 minutes without a single person stopping by to offer us water, offer to take our drink order or even just acknowledge our being there. It wasn’t even especially busy - most tables were empty. We gave up and went somewhere else.“

“The history of this tavern is one of the best in Lake County Indiana. Positioned in what used to be an old Indiana town where the stagecoach used to stop here to give its passengers a rest, eats and drink. What a wonderful building . a building that even holds in the basement stories of the prohibition . A place that one day progress will destroy. Enjoy it while it’s still here..“

“I was looking for a close spot to have a cold beer and grab a bite to eat in-between my daughters volleyball games and stumbled upon the gem called R Place. This spot is great! I was told that they have been in business 42 years! WOW, and I can see why. They are very friendly and treat you well. The food is fantastic and the locals are very laid back and make you feel welcome as well. If I was local to the area, this bar would be my base! A throwback feel to the better times, in my opinion. 5 ✨'s! I hope to get a chance to visit again.“

The quality of the coke has gone down a bit, but the patrons that frequent Home Plate are some of the finest people that you’ll ever meet. “I have seen this place there since I was young. we were out with some friends and decided to swing in. It is a quaint, little old homey bar. we loved it!!! The building looks like it is original to the town. (I love old vintage buildings, etc). We bought a round of drinks, hung out for a while, shot a game of pool. The customers and the bartender were very friendly!! Be aware they are a cash only bar (they do have an ATM inside) and it is a smoking bar so if you are sensitive to smoke. We will be back!! The one thing I noticed they changed the sign in the parking lot they had for years. I loved how it had a picture of the parking lot and had some cars, but also had a snowmobile and motorcycle parked together. Odd combination....but humorous!! 🤣 We will be back to support this local business!!“
