“I was looking for a close spot to have a cold beer and grab a bite to eat in-between my daughters volleyball games and stumbled upon the gem called R Place. This spot is great! I was told that they have been in business 42 years! WOW, and I can see why. They are very friendly and treat you well. The food is fantastic and the locals are very laid back and make you feel welcome as well. If I was local to the area, this bar would be my base! A throwback feel to the better times, in my opinion. 5 ✨'s! I hope to get a chance to visit again.“

“Not sure if they're affiliated, but we had eaten at the Schererville location and liked it so we' thought we'd try the Merrillville location this time around. Really love the decor inside and out, as well as the atmosphere. We were greeted warmly by a gentleman who may have been a manager? Seated right away. This was at 5:30 on a Saturday and not very crowded so that was nice. Our waiter took a bit of time to greet us, but once we ordered our drinks they came fairly quickly. Not so much with the food. Mexican restaurants are notoriously quick when it comes to delivering your food right away so I was actually okay with having a bit of extra time before eating. That said everything was slow thereafter. I was out of water and never got a refill. Took a minute for the waiter check in after we finished our food. Needed boxes and again, after delivering therm, he was MIA. Finally got the check.

All of the employees were friendly and professional, I just felt like the waiter could have been a bit more attentive.

“A “food delivery person” messed up our order, or stole it. Hard to tell. Cleo and his staff completely took care of the entire situation. And our dinner was incredible. I was blown-away by the care they provided us. I’ll continue ordering from Chili’s! Don't let a couple bad eggs keep you from a great dinner. 100% ordering again very soon! From the chicken family pack to the pizza, Gators food is excellent as well. If a band is playing on the weekend, this place will be busy and you are sure to have a fun time. 😁“

“I’ve been all over the U.S. and by far this is the best bar I ever been too mostly locals but great company would 10/10 recommend if you are stopped in the area, only downside they don’t serve food but if you get food nearby feel free to bring it with you but there are plenty of options nearby!!“

“We randomly stopped here on our way home for a quick bite to eat and to avoid Chicago rush hour. We ordered the Italian beef. Let me just say IT DOES NOT DISAPPOINT! It was super yummy! I spoke with a cook and they cook it overnight. Our server Mandy was friendly and took good care of us. Food was great and cheap compared to many other places. The atmosphere was laid back. I definitely would come back again just to eat. Seriously, if you want good food or a good sandwich. Stop and get their Italian beef!“

“We love Brewhouse and visit at least a couple times per month. They rotate their drink menu, there are always good local options (e.g., IPAs, Stouts, Lagers, Sours, Ciders), and they have a nice outdoor seating area that can be used during the warmer months. The bartenders are nice and playful and their food menu includes some clearly identified vegan options. They also have a couple of old arcade games you can play for free and have a bingo night, which is fun.“

“A very clean bar. I didn't eat anything there or even know if they have a kitchen. The bartender was very nice and outgoing. The crowd was like an after work crowd. We were meeting friends there to go to a ball game. Had a great time, the time we were there. I would go again.“

“We went there for the Halloween bash yesterday. If you haven't been here before, be fore warned they do allow smoking here, so you know ahead of time. So don't complain about it, vote with your dollars if that isn't your thing. Normally it isn't mine, but we met some folks up there so no biggie.“

“I have seen this place there since I was young. we were out with some friends and decided to swing in. It is a quaint, little old homey bar. we loved it!!! The building looks like it is original to the town. (I love old vintage buildings, etc). We bought a round of drinks, hung out for a while, shot a game of pool. The customers and the bartender were very friendly!! Be aware they are a cash only bar (they do have an ATM inside) and it is a smoking bar so if you are sensitive to smoke. We will be back!! The one thing I noticed they changed the sign in the parking lot they had for years. I loved how it had a picture of the parking lot and had some cars, but also had a snowmobile and motorcycle parked together. Odd combination....but humorous!! 🤣 We will be back to support this local business!!“

“GREAT BAR!! The place has really turned around since the bar owner sold her other bar! Lots of remodeling, new pool tables, I had even recommended her to get a pinball machine in there because me n my friends love pinball, well low an behold SHE'S GOT ONE COMING THIS WEEK!!! The crowd is mixed from young to old n black to white to Mexican NOBODY IS EVER SINGLE OUT HERE AND NOT WELCOMED.“

The quality of the coke has gone down a bit, but the patrons that frequent Home Plate are some of the finest people that you’ll ever meet. The only other bar in Hessville that was FAR SUPERIOR the Home Plate was Brothers II, and sadly that fine establishment is no longer in business! RIP RON & SUE“

“Great little hole in the wall bar. They don't serve food, but there's a pizza place downstairs who will bring food up to you, and the bartender tells you they allow you to have food delivered. The pool table is decent. Drinks are reasonably priced with a friendly staff. We'll definitely be back again.“

“My honey and I always end our night here. The bartenders are very friendly and have a great sense of humor. We love Sharis and you have to try the chocolate ganache dessert it is absolutely sinful and our favorite! The po-boy sandwich is excellent and my favorite! “I used to come here every weekend to have drinks and enjoy the live band music. Now, their drinks are too expensive for my taste and they replaced the live music with DJs, so I rarely go now. Not that I dislike DJs, but the live music is what set it apart from other bars in the area. The atmosphere doesn't suit DJs as well as it did the live bands. If they're going to stick with DJs, it would be better if the bar was more separated from the main casino floor (like the High Roller room is). I've also eaten at the restaurant a couple of times and the food was delicious. I opted for the king crab both times.“
