“On our way home to Chicago from our week-long visit to Columbus, Ohio, my wife and I decided to stop in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for a lunch break. It's a 5 1/2-hour drive and Fort Wayne is at the midway point. Hence, a good place for a rest stop and refresher. I chose to stop at Don Hall's Gas House & The Deck, the top-rated restaurant in town that is open for lunch. Located at 306 East Superior Street, the former 19th century gas plant on the banks of the Maumee River offers a sleek atmosphere for steaks and seafood with brick walls, wood floors, high ceiling, floor-to-ceiling windows, leather booths, a bar and a riverbank patio. Open from 11 to 10 Monday through Thursday, 11 to 11 on Friday and Saturday and 11 to 9 on Sunday, it is just what the doctor ordered. And who would have thought that something called The Chicago Burger would be the best-selling item on the menu? We started with bowls of New Orleans gumbo. My wife indulged in a Patty Melt on grilled rye bread with American and Swiss cheese, pickles, onion and 1,000 Island dressing. I couldn't resist The Chicago Burger on a toasted onion roll with grilled onions, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and pickles. With French fries and coleslaw for the both of us. It pays to do research on restaurants and hotels while traveling. Or we might have missed Don Hall's Gas House.“

“My husband and I went to Bistro Nota a couple of weeks ago on a cold rainy Friday night. We went because one of the owners/chefs is Jake - formerly of Chop’s Wine Bar (when it was at it’s best). As is Jake’s forte, the the food was fabulous! We tried several different things. We ordered a bottle of the “house” red wine from their varied wine list. It was a great wine, far superior to what I expected from anyone’s house wine! The Pain et Fromage was delicious-Homemade Sliced Rosemary & Sea Salt Focaccia served with Roasted Pepper Cheese Dip. For dinner we tried their delicious Bistro Mac & Cheese - for an “a la carte” item it was a large portion. We ordered Low country Shrimp (GF) from the “small plates” portion of the menu - my husband doesn’t eat pork so they graciously omitted the bacon. We ordered Beef Teres Major entree -Petite Shoulder Tenderloin, Roasted Garlic Marinated, Potato Veloute, Sofrito with Grilled Focaccia. The staff is engaging, congenial & professional. The atmosphere is comfortable, urban, slightly industrial. We will go back to Bistro Nota again and again !!!“

“Kimvu is my absolute favorite restaurant in Fort Wayne, with some of the friendliest staff as well. I go multiple times a week to unwind and enjoy some of the most comforting food I’ve ever had the privilege of eating. I would give it 10 stars if I could!“

“I didn't really take any pictures of this one because let's face it pictures of ice cream in a dish are just not that compelling. We tried the Turtle and Yippee Skippee ice cream flavors. Turtle was good as you would expect but as with many ice cream flavors with nuts in them, the nuts can get kind of soggy. That was the case with the turtle ice cream today. The yippee Skippy is a peanut butter-based ice cream with chocolate covered pretzels. It was pretty good. I enjoyed it. We would obviously try different flavors the next time we went and I would say overall it was a good experience.“

“Takaoka has been a favorite of mine for over 20 years, and I love sharing this joyful dining experience with my children. We recently visited Takaoka at the request of my son for his birthday, and it was hands down the best dining experience we have had there. “This is the only place in Fort Wayne to my knowledge that has sushi burritos. If you are a person that loves burritos and love sushi, this is your place. You can customize your burrito to have whatever you want in it just like chipotle. Instead of having Mexican flavors and meats, it's fish. Is the great place to go for lent if you are fasting from meats on friday. It is right off of coliseum. You can order online and it's pretty quick. The email told me to wait 20 minutes but I got a text within 10 minutes that I was ready. It's more for takeout but they do have places for people to sit if you want to eat there. Do you feel overwhelmed with making choices, they also have pre-selected choices for sushi burritos. They also do burrito bowls and they also do boba tea. If you're not into touching food for your hands the burrito bowl will be a good option for youParking: Kittle's furniture has a big parking lot next to it. But there's other stores that's the aa poke that takes up their parking. There is parking but it is a busy parking lot“

“Caliente has evolved a lot over the past couple years. One thing that is consistent however , is the awesome food. Priced well and worth the money. Anytime I'm working in downtown fort Wayne , I make it a point to stop in for lunch at least once a week!“

We dined with my husband's cousin and her husband, also. We came to hear my friend and her band mate sing and perform in their music duo.
