Andy and his team have pulled off something I genuinely struggle to put into words. The genius here isn't rare truffles or gold leaf — it's the opposite. Decade takes homey, everyday ingredients, the kind you'd find in any grandmother's pantry, and transforms them into something you simply won't believe. Each plate builds on the last, flavors folding and unfolding in ways I didn't know food could do. Familiar comfort turned kaleidoscopic. Textures that caught me off guard, flavor combinations that made me stop mid-bite and just laugh. If you could have an acid trip on a dinner plate, this is it — and I mean that as the highest compliment possible. This is the most creative menu I have ever encountered, and I do not say that lightly.

But great food is only half the story. The care behind every course, the rhythm of the meal, the sense that this team genuinely loves what they do — it all came through. You feel looked after. You feel like you're sitting at the center of something special that's only just getting started.

And it is just getting started. I'm genuinely excited to watch the Decade restaurant group grow, because there's a vision here that deserves to reach far beyond Louisville. One personal hope: I understand the co-owner has roots in San Francisco. As someone who calls the Bay Area home, I would be first in line if they ever opened a spot out west. Please make that happen.

“Love this place. Mellwood Tavern gives you two completely different experiences under one roof, and both are worth checking out.

Downstairs is exactly what a great Louisville dive bar should be—laid back, unpretentious, and stocked with a really solid beer selection. The real star, though, is Tuesday night fried chicken, which might honestly be the best in Louisville. It’s crispy, flavorful, and absolutely worth planning your week around. And whatever you do, don’t skip the potato cakes—they’re the perfect side and honestly complete the whole meal.

Upstairs is a total contrast in the best way. The renovated private hangout space is quieter, well-appointed, and perfect if you want a more relaxed vibe. Between the dart boards, TVs, and comfortable setup, it’s an awesome place to watch whatever game you want, hang with friends, or spend a long night throwing darts without the chaos of the downstairs bar.

It’s rare to find a place that nails both the classic dive bar feel and a polished private hangout space, but Mellwood does it perfectly. Tuesday chicken alone is worth the trip. “

“We went on a Thursday just after happy hour (6pm) and the place was packed! Also because they do trivia on Thursday. But a fun happy hip crowd! Luckily we got a booth. Nautical theme throughout this shotgun style bar/restaurant. You order at the bar, they give you a number and your drinks and food are brought to your table. Fun drinks and a variety of beers. Wait staff were efficient and helpful when one order was misunderstood. We were hungry and I was happy the special that night we're wings. Glazed and sprinkled with sesame seeds they were absolutely delicious! Other members in our group got mini corndogs..homemade as well as one of the specialty hot dogs. A fun discovery in NULU.“

“Went Wednesday and Thursday while staying at The Galt House Hotel but had terrible experience today, Friday, terrible service and nachos so salty we couldn’t eat. Server and manager didn’t seem to care.“

“We stopped in early on a Thursday evening without a reservation and had no problem getting seats at the bar. Kayla, our bartender, was awesome! She asked what kinds of drinks we liked and recommended the Swans Down and Victor’s Folly—both were absolutely delicious.

Kayla was also so friendly and chatted with us while making our drinks. Since we were only in Louisville for a short trip, she gave us some great recommendations for other places to check out while we were in town.

“George's Bar is the official bar within the Old Forrestor downtown Louisville outpost. It was probably my absolute favorite distillery bar we got to try out on our recent trip to the area. The space is beautiful - intimate but with enough seating and an actual open bar area you can go sit at. Their bourbon flight options were also incredible - with truly hard to find things at a semi-reasonable price. We will back - 5/5 stars.“

It had capers and something kinda minty - pretty good sauce if you don't mind the capers - gave it 4⭐ cause I like a light spicy with the special sauce. Overall I would get it again.“

“I did not do the tour and only visited the gift store and the bar. The flights there were reasonable and I thought the gift store was fairly nice compared to others. They did have a limited stock and stuck mostly with Evan Williams compared to Elisha Craig and others (those are more in Bardstown).

We had the appetizer skewers $13 which were delicious and the chocolate tahini cake $11 which really surprised us flavor wise. We did not leave feeling overly full which is good since we were there for the show.I highly recommend it for one more reason. Location. It makes getting to the theatre so much easier!!!“

The staff, Kevin and Case are so hospitable, they make sure you are fully comfortable and have everything you need to guarantee you have a pleasant memorable experience. The cigar selection is excellent and from the photos you can see your spirits selection is unlimited. I enjoy watching the World Cup England against Norway game with great drinks and handful of cigars and excellent food. Again, this is a must experience for you cigar smokers. “it's pretty much the best community driven thing since ever. the super dope friendly regulars come, well, regularly, and the trolls who try to ruin it for everyone realize no one wants them here so they don't come back. it's this vicious cycle of good vibes feeding into themselves that has created this incredible community. the alcovians are we like to call ourselves. if you're like me and not usually social, check out the karaoke bar next door first and loosen up there and then migrate on over to alcove when you feel more comfortable! don't even get me started on the food. papu chos is THE BEST food I've had in my life. That’s why I was disappointed to hear that one of the servers was recently let go. Rumor has it that negative customer reviews may have played a part in that decision. I want to be clear—I don’t know all the facts behind what happened, so I’m not claiming that’s the reason.

But it does make me wonder: What are reviews supposed to be for?

I’ve always thought reviews—both positive and negative—should be used as feedback. They should recognize what people are doing right, identify areas that need improvement, and give employees an opportunity to learn and grow.

None of us gets it right 100% of the time. Anyone who works with the public is eventually going to have a customer who isn’t happy. One bad interaction, one rough day, or even a few negative reviews shouldn’t automatically define the kind of employee or person someone is.

I’ll continue to support The Parlour because I genuinely enjoy the food, atmosphere, and people. I just hope businesses remember that behind every review is a customer—but behind the counter is a person, too.“

“I stopped by for dinner and was treated like royalty throughout my visit. There were a couple of items on their in-house dining menu that changed; however, I made the adjustments and placed my order. James was my waiter; he was very attentive, and the manager, Ethan, came out and greeted me as well. I must mention the young lady who greeted and seated me, though I forgot her name; she pulled out my chair, made sure my feet were positioned away from the table legs, and pushed the chair back in. I ordered the shrimp cocktail as an appetizer; the shrimp were huge, cleaned well, tasty, and the red sauce was outstanding. I requested the Greek salad from the menu but was informed it was no longer available. I ordered the heirloom tomato salad instead, which was not yet on the menu, though James informed me it was a new item. I then went with the Ora King salmon, which stated it came with roasted carrots, broccolini, and a maple bourbon glaze. I was informed that the carrots and broccolini no longer come with the meal; however, I could order the broccolini as a side, which I decided to do, and I was not disappointed in the taste or texture. The salmon came with a sweet potato puree and roasted cauliflower. The meal included complimentary bread and butter, which was nice and warm when it arrived. I enjoyed my meal and the service and would certainly visit again.“

“The Earl is one of those rare places that hits the sweet spot between dive bar and craft beer hangout, without trying too hard. In the middle of downtown New Albany, it’s got a industrial interior with brick walls, rough hardwood floors, and exposed beams, that still manages to feel warm and personal, im sure helped by the Bill Murray mural and fridge shrine dedicated to him. It’s weird, it’s charming, and it totally works.

Their rotating lineup of local and regional craft beers is always on point. You’ll find something familiar like Country Boy, but also a few wildcards you’ve never seen before. It’s perfect for after work or a laid-back late night drink.

On a personal note, this is where I first told my girlfriend, now wife, that I was falling in love with her. So yeah, for all the cool beers and eccentric charm, and even Bill Murray, I can personally attest that The Earl is also the kind of place where memories are made and actually stick. “upon entry 2 staff members behind the bar and a female staff member at the entry to kitchen behind a wall chatting it up on her phone. People were observed leaving due to no service. after 10 minutes I asked for a bar towel to clean a table so my party and I could sit down. food was mediocre at best and our pretzel bites allegedly weren't even written down. we did get the pretzel bites after our meals were served and someone please tell me why the hell we couldn't get a rootbeer served when it's on the menu?! guy said he couldn't serve it where we were sitting. Not sure any of them had a bit of ambition as they were very snail like. 🙄 I encourage you to keep walking, don't let the loud music lure you in!“
