It’s weird, it’s charming, and it totally works.

Their rotating lineup of local and regional craft beers is always on point. You’ll find something familiar like Country Boy, but also a few wildcards you’ve never seen before. It’s perfect for after work or a laid-back late night drink.

On a personal note, this is where I first told my girlfriend, now wife, that I was falling in love with her. So yeah, for all the cool beers and eccentric charm, and even Bill Murray, I can personally attest that The Earl is also the kind of place where memories are made and actually stick. That’s why I was disappointed to hear that one of the servers was recently let go. Rumor has it that negative customer reviews may have played a part in that decision. I want to be clear—I don’t know all the facts behind what happened, so I’m not claiming that’s the reason.

But it does make me wonder: What are reviews supposed to be for?

I’ve always thought reviews—both positive and negative—should be used as feedback. They should recognize what people are doing right, identify areas that need improvement, and give employees an opportunity to learn and grow.

None of us gets it right 100% of the time. Anyone who works with the public is eventually going to have a customer who isn’t happy. One bad interaction, one rough day, or even a few negative reviews shouldn’t automatically define the kind of employee or person someone is.

This is the most creative menu I have ever encountered, and I do not say that lightly.

But great food is only half the story. The care behind every course, the rhythm of the meal, the sense that this team genuinely loves what they do — it all came through. You feel looked after. You feel like you're sitting at the center of something special that's only just getting started.

And it is just getting started. I'm genuinely excited to watch the Decade restaurant group grow, because there's a vision here that deserves to reach far beyond Louisville. One personal hope: I understand the co-owner has roots in San Francisco. As someone who calls the Bay Area home, I would be first in line if they ever opened a spot out west. Please make that happen.

If I lived in Louisville, I'd be here constantly — no question. Decade isn't just a meal. It's an experience I'll be telling people about for years.

They have a limited but amazing and fair priced selection of allocated bottles, and without doubt the best selection of ultra rare bottles anywhere. And even those are fairly priced. Nautical theme throughout this shotgun style bar/restaurant. You order at the bar, they give you a number and your drinks and food are brought to your table. Fun drinks and a variety of beers. Wait staff were efficient and helpful when one order was misunderstood. We were hungry and I was happy the special that night we're wings. This bar is also home of the "Iceberg" , a Titanic inspired cocktail! Some theme decorations (Lego ship!) along the back of bar. Also a great collection of Star Wars figurines on the other half of back bar. Outside food welcome but they do have hot dogs and chili dogs along with a wall of snacks if you need something in your tummy before you throw down some beer etc. Small, but quaint patio in the back. “I did the ‘Evan Williams Traditional Tour & Bourbon Tasting’ the host/guide was Mark from Indiana (I forgot his last name initial). The tour was better than what I expected it to be it had a good balance of just an overview of how the bourbon is produced for those who do not know but I liked the history about Evan Williams himself and some of the significant events that occurred around the time the bourbon started to be produced. Mark also gave some history of the city as well which I thought was cool and informative too. He also gives good suggestions on which bourbons can only be purchased there or at a distillery which was helpful. The one that they produce for the Japanese market is 🔥 in case anyone was wondering 😊“

We wanted to check out the speakeasy too but it ended up booked for a private event which was tragic for me personally because I already mentally prepared myself to act mysterious in low lighting.

I ordered Pharaoh’s Dream, or Plane? Prayer? Something biblical and expensive sounding, and it was GREAT. Dangerously great actually. Had I not been limiting myself I absolutely would’ve gotten tore up!

The crowd felt a little standoffish but there was a conference happening at the Omni that week so honestly I think a lot of networking and corporate mingling was happening more than socializing.

Still, the drinks and atmosphere carried the experience.“
