“This place has a family-run feel that's so fun. Sometimes they just send you back to the kitchen and show you everything that's cooking, and you order right there. They don't have margaritas, but they have something better. Try the Paloma.“
“VERY LARGE SERVINGS. I got the Tres Marias and needed my friend’s help to finish it. Ice cream was delicious. Employee was very sweet and helpful. Clean establishment. Speaks both Spanish and English. You will definitely get your money’s worth!“
“This place is a diamond in the financial district! My friends and I stopped here during our lunch break because we were craving tex mex I looked the place up and felt hopeful but once we got the food we were blown away! Ernesto and veronica (i hope i got their names right) were the most welcoming and the food was fresh, filling, and tasted amazing. It felt like a mom and pop restaurant and the chocolate chip toffee cookie was heavenly. Sadly we were in KC for only a week or id go there every day during lunch! Get a bowl and cherry coke and say hi to the owners for Nico, Justin and I“
“Awesome neighboorhood casual mexican eatery that is family owned and operated. Loved the fresh cooked chips and the fresh salsa is outstanding. Try the pickle salsa on the beef tacos, sounds different but was fantastic. Will be coming back!“
“This is our favorite taco place! The food is delicious and I can get beef cheek here. I placed a carry out order and service was prompt and courteous. They made sure I had everything I needed before I left. I cannot say enough good things about Taqueria La Nueva!! Love this place ♥️“
“Taqueria Santa Cruz, is this you? The holy grail of burritos in Kansas City has been found, and I hate to reveal the secret. There’s nothing glamorous to this place, but I prefer it that way. It’s a classic no-nonsense Mexican restaurant that you’d find on most corners of SoCal but haven’t existed here in KC until now. The burritos are loaded and flavorful. Plenty of options. Without a doubt, the best burrito in Kansas City. Stay small, and don’t leave Shawnee! Now keep this secret between us.“
“When they first opened up, I took my dad there. He loved it every Saturday Sunday or during the week. Him and I would stop to eat there. Then my brother started going with us. Also on my respects to everybody that works there and the great food that prepare in the hospitality, I miss the days going there with my dad and brother they passed away. Sometimes I go by myself and sometimes I meet my family there. This is my favorite place to eat. It feels like home. My daddy loved this place to eat. May he and my brother rest in Peace amen“
“This weekend my boyfriend and I were wanting some Birria tacos. We found GG's Barbacoa Cafe on Yelp. I'm so glad we decided to stop in. The service was great. We were promptly helped and was offered assistance. We got a plate of 4 Birria tacos. We also got the Horchata and both were so delicious. We would definitely come back.“
“Service-5/5 Food-4/5 Atmosphere-4.5/5 Our first time here and it was tasty! I got the prickly pear margarita and it was very tasty! I also ordered the shrimp quesadillas and I was surprised by the amount of shrimp. I often feel like shrimp quesadillas don't have a good amount of shrimp but this one definitely does! It is smothered in cheese and filled with cheese so it's a bit of a cheese! Our server was super nice and attentive. I want to go back here and try their queso for sure“
“We came here for the Pupusas, a favorite Salvadoran dish! They had so many filling options for the Pupusas and they were all delicious! Make sure to ask for the salsas to go with, but beware, they pack some HEAT! Service was very nice and the atmosphere quite festive!“
“The food was amazing so really no complaints there at all. I think we tried everything they had on the menu and it was all so good. The ambiance would be my only critique and didn’t feel it matched the quality of the good but it wouldn’t keep me from going back.“
“Had a great meal here the other night and enjoyed hearing about all the food from the very energetic owner. Each of us (four people) ordered something different and got to take a taste everything, and it was all delicious. This is definitely a place I want to return to, soon, to try out more of the many menu options! The cocktails were generous as well. Nice decor inside (despite the strip mall facade). Overall, VERY happy we discovered this place and plan on returning soon with friends. Don't hesitate to try it out if you want a unique and authentic experience.“
“Delicious wood grilled chicken in half or whole. It comes with beans, rice, pickled onions and a salsa purée. It smelled absolutely delicious when you go inside, and the food was even better. The place doesn’t look like anything special, but the food and service are top tier. The lady working the counter was kind and on her game. This is a must visit location in KC and now one of our favorites.“
“Food was very delicious and authentic to mexican cuisine. I had a torta and fries and they gave plenty of fries and not a small portion like some restaurants. The torta was exceedingly good, the bread didn’t get all soggy and fall apart and meat was seasoned just right. 10/10 recommend!“
“This is one of the top 3 best places to get tacos in Kansas City. They have a wide variety of options but I always get the lengua. Their chips and queso is perfect and I love that they’re open late. They have a condiment bar where you can dress up your tacos exactly how you like them. Highly recommend.“
“Food is authentic and tastes great. Perfect amount odds seasonings. Plated well even though it was take out. Make sure to visit this hidden gem in South KC. Small locally owned business that needs your support! Owners very nice and service was fast.“
“Environment is open, bright, colorful, and lively music that has rotational ethnic notes (not just Latin pop music) tacos are large portioned in proteins for the price (you definitely don't need more than 3) the drinks are flavorful and strong. The salsas were delicious (favorites were the tomatillo, jalapeño, and salsa macha) chips were fresh tasting and flavored with tajin and salt. The quesadilla was delicious and loaded with cheese, came with a creamy chipotle style sauce, very good dipped in the green salsas as well...the pastor was flavorful and pineapple gave a fresh bite. Asada was well seasoned and texture was chewy without the work of stringy meat. The barbacoa is flavorful and juicy. The shrimp and chorizo was definitely the meal favorite, the chorizo is soft textured and salty that went well with the battered shrimp, 10/10 on that one. The sad fellow was the fish taco...due to so much slaw topping and it being wet and creamy you lost the crispy batter of the fish and drowned out the flavor. The fish by itself was delicious but was overpowered by the soggy mess on top. Wouldn't try the fish again unless they did a lighter slaw or non cream one. The pickled onions, pepinos and radish on the side was delicious to pair with everything to give fresh bites on the palate before the next bites. The passion fruit margaritas were tangy and sweet, loved the taste. The horchata was thin but creamy in texture, perfect for a hot day (and free refills on auga frescas was too goo to pass up) the michalada was perfectly balanced and you can choose your own beer. The market is hardly that but it has cute items in it. The space is way better than the businesses here before and would definitely come again“
“I really enjoyed my order because the Birria, shredded pork, and flour tamales were absolutely delicious and made my mouth water. Despite being busy, the service was good and the staff were still very nice and sweet. Also, the place was clean and had lovely colors.“
“Customer service absolutely amazing and the food will need no seasoning everything cooked to order so it’s fresh….the workers at officially chopped barbershop told me about this place and let me tell you they were all right this place is “
“Went here on a weeknight last month and it seemed very low key even though they have a full bar and plenty of seating. I wasn’t paying attention to prices but we got a variety of 8 tacos plus salsa, grilled peppers and onions for about $20. Would definitely come back again.“
“If you're looking for a fast food place that has great fried tacos, this is the place. Yes it was fast, but it's better than your typical fast food... this is no taco bell. I ordered one beef taco and one beef and cheese taco; both with hot sauce. They came out hot and crispy. They're served with a bright cheese on top, think powdered kraft cheese. I wasn't sure about that neon powder cheese but it was a fun spin on traditional cheese and was rather tasty.“
“The food was amazing, they cut the meat to pretty fine pieces, so it's very easy to eat as far as street tacos go.The service was great, very kind staff, you may need to know some Spanish to get by here. The payment is CASH ONLY. Don't forget to bring cash with you.The space looks like they've done well with a low budget. It could be better, but for what it is they've done their best.“
“The best Mexican food I have ever ever ever had! You must get the quesadilla. The tacos are fantastic; and the salsas are to die for. It's a small family owned shop that has all the right stuff! I don't like authentic Mexican food, but I kid you not I could eat here everyday, 3 times a day!“
“These tamales are some of the best I've ever had - and I've had them in all three of the Americas. Don't be surprised if they run out on Saturdays because I see people carrying them out by the sackfux and boxes. They sell them by the dozen. Carnitas too. All the food is good. Yes I've had everything on the menu. The Pupusas are authentic El Salvador. Great value for the price. Quintessential hole in the wall with six booths. There is a park behind it so we usually get our food and go over there to the farmers market or just take a walk. This is truly mom and pop so if you have a big order, do them a favor and call ahead. And do the rest of us a favor by calling ahead because if you take everything they have made for the day then they won't have any left for me!“
“Seriously the best carne asada & pastor tacos I have had! We tried this place for the first time last weekend - we live right down the street. We have ate here THREE more times because I can’t get their tacos off of my mind. Can’t wait to try their Tortas next! ?“
“I had the Marky's Big Mama Burrito and it was huge with a nice topping of chorizo. Good portioned side of a cheese relleno too. The staff was fast, nice, and attentive and the drinks were good too. Will be back -- a good deal for the money and an inviting atmosphere!“
“I took my daughter and her family here. We got there at an odd time, between the lunch and dinner rush. If I can't verify something I do not down check, especially since it might have been something I did. Also I can always come back and edit. The food was hot and tasty. A lot of times you hit between hours and you get leftovers. If that's what they did here and personally I don't think so, they serve very good leftovers. LOL. I and most of my family eat when we are hungry, not because it's a particular time. So we do the between times more than most. You can go to a place that had good food at peak times but between times they are pretty bad. Not this place. If you go it's good. Is the food good, Yes. Was the service good, Yes. Was it clean, Yes. This means a lot. It's the only time they can do 9 thousand things to prep for dinner and there I am in the damn way, expecting them to cook for me and be all happy about it and they were. I will definitely be back, during lunch or dinner hours guys, I promise!“
“One of our favorite places that we frequent in KC. I've never been disappointed & food is consistently fantastic. If you are considering going, you've got to try it. Staff is very friendly and accommodating and can recommend options if you are unsure. Love all the cerviche options!“
“One of my favorite Mexican restaurants!Great food! Large portions and the food is always good and fresh! Our server was excellent and attentive no matter how busy they are. This restaurant is always busy! So go early or be prepared to stand and wait for a table!Parking is in the back of the restaurant and on the street in front but Broadway is busy so best to park in the back.I like ordering al-la-carte because the portions are large! Please go if you haven't, you will enjoy it!“
“From the moment we walked in the service was fast. The place looked dead but they had a fast turnover rate for tables. The food was excellent, I had the chimicunga combo, and my partner had a taste of everything plate. It was relatively cheap. The only reason it gets 3 stars in service is because the one waitress we had was not super attentive to my tables needs near the end of our visit. But other than that 7/10.Parking: Most parking spaces near the building are generally full. Unless your willing to walk a little more then a standard parking lot.“
“I went here because my girlfriend insisted it was good. I'd never heard of the place, and after reading the one other Yelp review, I didn't exactly have high hopes. We arrived on a Saturday evening and while the taco place next door (Tacos el Güero, I believe is the name) had a line of folks outside, Willie's Burritos was dead. No customers, just one middle-aged gentleman hanging out and waiting for business. This did not boost my expectations. We went inside and asked what kind of burritos were available, since the previous review said he only had barbacoa when they went. He said they had ground beef, shredded beef, steak, pork, and chicharron. We ordered two steak, one ground beef, and one pork to go. The first thing he did after taking our order was step in the area just behind the counter and thoroughly wash his hands, right where we could see him. This was definitely a good sign. As we sat in the (very small) dining area to wait for our food, we were treated to the sounds of sizzling meats, followed shortly by the delicious scents our steak, pork, and beef being seasoned and cooked. In just a few minutes, our food was brought out, wrapped in foil and placed in paper bags. He asked if we wanted sauce, which we did. Rather than using ramekins, he squirted some of the creamy green sauce into sandwich bags and twisted and tied them off (like a dimebag of sauce). Overall, it needs a little work. They appear to be in the middle of painting the walls, they only take cash, their menu board has some issues, and their seating is VERY limited. However, the place is clean; the burritos are made fresh, delicious, flavorful, and reasonably priced; and their creamy green sauce is out of this world. This is a small business that I would definitely like to see stick around! Highly recommended.“
“Good food, exceptional service and convenient location. I ordered the taco salad to go and it was so nice to have a tortilla bowl that was not soggy from all the grease. Great job!!Kid-friendliness: Have taken our kids there several times and they love it.“
“We got there at 7:30 in a Saturday night with a party of 9. They asked if we would sit "outside", we agreed. It was all enclosed. It was a dance area. They were doing salsa lessons. It was fun, even for 3 Gen X non-Hispanics! I really liked my street tacos.“
“Fire. Come on now everyone knows about torito. If you ain't going in there trying to get some Carne asada waiting 30 min for your number to be called while standing next to some random person. Your missing out. They need to make that place bigger.“
“The food here is great. The flavor of everything they serve is better than Chipotle and on par with a really good sit down restaurant. The fire-roasted shredded chicken and tomatillo ranch are both addictive - I usually get them in the ranch salad. Very good salsa. Some good daily specials as well and a rewards program.“
“My husband & I recently moved to the area & had a long day. We didn't finish moving until about 8pm and we're so hungry. The only place we know in the area that's open late is 'tacos el guero' so we headed over there. By chance, we came across El Chaparros a few doors down and they were still open! It looks to be a small, family run business. Very nice people and the food was INCREDIBLE! My husbandis VERY picky and he loved it. Went back today for lunch and still so so good.“
“@TACO NACO KC, Overland Park, KS, 8220 Metcalf#thankful this place is across the street from where I work. “Visited after seeing the article in the Star. They did not disappoint. Wife had the combo platter & I had the fish soup. Tons of food, ALL spot-on...the flavors were great, the heat just right! The waitress was perfect, service & speed was excellent.“
“Best tacos al pastor in the midwest. This is not an exaggeration. I've had pastor tacos all over the city and all over the country. These are the best (Sergio's of Osage Beach is a close second). The other food is excellent as well! The restaurant is first come first serve and seat yourself. Staff is very friendly. Parking is available on the street out front, but expect to find relatively abundant parking on Minnesota Avenue to the northwest of the restaurant. Don't pass up this spot!Kid-friendliness: Kids food can be made to order for picky eaters.“
“This was my first visit. I do my laundry next door to the restaurant and the wonderful aroma made me want to try the food. I ordered carry out. When I picked up my food I was impressed with the inside. It looked very clean and colorful. The staff were very friendly and the food was very good. I will go back again.“
“Delicious as always. I picked up some lunch here. This might be my new favorite place. I was able to call and place my order over the phone. About 15 minutes later, I headed down to pay and pick it up. I was on my way in no time. They do have a dining area, but it is pretty small.“
“My favorite Mexican food in KC, period. More "street style" than traditional restaurant style, and the food is just amazing. I've known the owner, Don Memo (Guillermo) for years, as he used to run the taco truck in front of Olivares Auto Garage, at Independence Ave/Denver on the Missouri side. His tacos were fantastic then, and are just next-level awesome now that he has an actual kitchen to work with. If you're looking to just sit down and enjoy some wonderful authentic Mexican food (antojitos) without the expense of a large restaurant, and without having to sit outside like at a taco truck, this is the place to go.“
“Finally some good authentic Mexican food in OP. I got the Birria Plate and it was delicious. The portions are huge and the food literally warmed my soul. My boyfriend got the Asada Tacos which were also fire. We enjoyed our lunch while he gave me a history lesson of the classical Mexican 50s music that was playing. Arturo was our server and he was very attentive, not to mention he’s a great bartender.“
“Very good although I'm pretty sure they gave me gross lenguas because the first time I ordered it it was not meaty and chopped small and gelatinous and the next time it was just slices of very soft meat. Id rather get a little of both rather than have to gamble with a 100% gross meat taco.“
“This is one of the most phenomenal restaurants I have ever been to in my life. The owner is so friendly and personable. This place is the definition of how a business should be run. I wish them great success! I have found a new favorite lunch spot. Thanks“
“Our favorite place to go to for authentic Mexican tacos and authentic Salvadorean pupusas. Everything is super flavorful, always want more but can’t fit it anywhere else! We’ve tried other Salvadorean places that have opened recently and none compare to this one.“
“Hands down my favorite street tacos in town. The atmosphere is SO sweet and the servers are always working so hard to make things incredible. It's wildly inexpensive for what you get and this place will truly turn your whole day around! Definitely give it a go.“
“The atmosphere of the restaurant spelled out authentic Mexican food without overdoing it. Service was quick to sit us down to offer a menu and drinks. What was unique is that they do not give chips and salsa as all other Mexican joints do. They offer chicharon pinwheels with hot sauce which I think made it better and brought my Hispanic childhood back with memory of the heladero (ice cream man). I ordered empanadas that I had never tried with chicken meat, my daughter chose sopes with Al Pastor meat. My wife got tacos with Al Pastor meat too. They both liked their dishes and mine was yummy with both the green sauce and red sauce. I will go back to try other dishes.“
“OMG! This place is FANTASTIC! A small apparently family owned business. Their dinners come with a whole or half chicken. Get the whole chicken! I got carryout as usual for me and am really into Mexican food, hitting dozen of spots for decades in KC. This place has some unique flavors and sauces that I have never had before. For example, their guacamole has a slightly sweet lime taste. You have to try this. Wood fired grille does chicken and ribs. Just falls off the bone. It's truly unique, very nice family and they deserve the business. Plenty of parking for carryout, although may need more as time goes on. I'm still high from that dinner. Seriously! ?“
“I’m currently sitting inside the Taco Bell and whoever is working this morning shift makes the food perfect, I feel like I’m eating the food straight out of the commercials! My quesadilla had never been crisp on the outside and I even added nacho cheese to it which makes it more soggy but it’s perfect! Anyway amazing experience I come here occasionally in the mornings and love that I don’t feel judged for ordering non breakfast food though their breakfast is super underrated!!Kid-friendliness: My kids love Taco Bell! Even my picky eaters! They have something for everyone“
