“Visited on Dec 30. Why eat Mexican when in Nola? Because it is world class. Easily a top 5 meal and I have a long list of amazing restaurants visited. I’ll start with the end. Get the desserts. Save room. They are amazing. We opted for both the FLAN and the MASA TRES LECHES. The latter was moist, light and life changing. The flan was rich and fulfilling. The menu is small but MIGHTY. The cocktails were well thought out and varied. We started with the AGUACHILES VERDE and TUNA TOSTADA. Both were fresh, flavorful and authentic. A few bites each for two of us. For the main portions, we chose the CHOCHOYOTES and ARROZ NEGRO. The former is a Mexican influenced play on southern collared greens. More of a side but amazing on its own. A very worthy pair to the main character of this meal, the ARROZ NEGRO. Corn smut sounds terrible but it is delicious. The mussels, squid and shrimp add a Nola flair to this amazing dish. It is very rich and a solid portion. Flavors and texture for days. Plus a bit of umami from the huitlacoche. It is a bit pricy. Total before tip for 2 of us was $250. That included 5 cocktails, 4 dishes and 2 desserts.“

The combination gumbo was so good and filling I could eat it all week. I got it with a pound of crawfish. If you're picturing getting a bunch of those tiny crustaceans, you are mistaken my friend. These critters were HUGE. Be forewarned, they are cajun hot! Very tasty, just a heads up for those who aren't a fan of spicy things. “My only complaint was that I'm not a local and don't get to eat here 5 times a week. Get the red beans, pork boudin, and turkey neck and ask for an extra container. I was able to find Danny & Bonnie's seafood online and gave them a call. The woman was very kind and told me that they would most likely be able to accommodate me and would call me back. She called me back not even 5 minutes later to let me know that they would be able to accommodate my 7 dozen request and this was a holiday weekend. I was able to pick up my crabs the next day without any problems. When I tell you that these were the freshest crabs that I've had! I will be forever grateful for the last minute order fulfillment. And my surprise was that they sold fresh cracklin. I only purchased half a bag and I should have purchased a full bag or more. I can't wait to be able to purchase from them again. “I started to call this place a "best kept secret", but I'm not sure how much of a secret it can be with 2 or 3 customers inside this small store seemingly at ALL TIMES. An employee at nearby OPSB told me their gumbo was great - I went once and now I go back almost every time I'm on the west bank. it's an unassuming small shop that sells eveything from seafood (whole crab, crawfish, fish plates, etc) to random cash register fodder. Dont be distracted though- get the gumbo.“

“This restaurant is a must stop EVERY time I’m in town visiting family. My Lawd I always get the shrimp sandwich on bun but I got the hot sausage patties po-boy as well this time. Also grabbed a pound of shrimp and a pound of crawfish. I know I was being big eyed because I was hungry but I didn’t regret it because everything was good, per usual. My mom tasted the crawfish and looovvveeed the favor. I got the regular spice level and she said it was just right, not too spicy. 10 out of 10 definitely recommend.“
