Restaurantji's Monroe guide: Where to find the best Mexican flavors.
“We went to Abuela's for the experience of having the robot deliver chips and salsa. The robot is pretty cool. The Vegetarian rice bowl is awesome. I loved the different vegetables in it. Grilled green and red peppers, grilled onions, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. A lot of vegetables over rice. The house dressing is good too. The bowl is a great option if you want a nice bowl without any meat. The only bad thing I have to say is the back dining room where we were taken for a table was pretty dirty. The floors hadn't been swept and there was trash in the floor. Couple of tables not cleaned off. And there wasn't any reason for that dining area to not be cleaned. It wasn't busy back there and our waiter kept walking right past the mess. We ate lunch there on Valentines Day and it was totally different. There was fresh flowers on the tables. Balloons over the tables. Everything was clean. It was somewhat disappointing to go the next time and it was dirty. Hopefully it was just a fluke but when I mentioned it to the hostess she didn't act like she cared about the trash at all. I'll go again just because I like the vegetarian bowl but I'll sit in the front dining room. I'd go back for the chip/salsa delivering robot lol“
“Walked in with the family, and the staff was very prompt and courteous for a Sunday evening. The menu is completely full of various types of texmex and traditional Mexican dishes. I had the Lingua and barbacoa street tacos. All ingredients were fresh and packed full of Latin flavor! The salsa was the best I've ever had the pleasure of tasting with what seemed to be an abundance of cilantro and Mexican oregano. The meal was at a good price for the portions. I will definitely be going back, and it's now my go-to mexican dive!“
“I really enjoyed everything here. I had The Amigos meal and it was delicious! Number one, I'd like to thank them for putting enough cheese sauce on the meal. I hate it when I have to ask for more then you're charged for it. They got it right the first time. The dish consists of a bed of rice with chicken, shrimp, steak, and veggies ( onion, bell peppers and tomatoes) I opted not to have the steak on mine. Everything was seasoned well. I was not able to finish my food because of the margarita!!! It was so good. I had strawberry-mango mixed together. Ok then I had a shooter also but that's besides the point( shot of tequila inside a test tube)? They had some games playing on the TV which we loved as well. Good times, good people, good food, and ohhhh Brandon was our server and he was EVERYTHING!!! I shall return???“

“Liking Avocados on 19th Street, Monroe more and more. Walked in, got a table immediately, then had salsa and chips on the table before seated! Lunchtime, so looking at the lunch specials. When ordering, the server pointed out my menu selection was the same price OFF the lunch menu but included more food! No brain-er! Quick service, kitchen fast, more salsa & chips anytime.“

“My first visit. I loved the crunchy taco supreme, the enchilada(I would have preferred a corn tortilla but I like the chili sauce). I ordered the guacamole salad. The drive thru attendant asked me three times if I wanted beans. Each time, I said “I want the guacamole salad. No meat. No beans.” I get on the road and there’s no guacamole but plenty of beef and beans. Is there a way to order the guacamole salad, where you just get the guacamole salad?“
“Wife and I usually stop here when we are in Monroe and it has not disappointed us yet.The wife ordered fajitas while I ordered the enchiladas. This is the only place I’ve need here in Central Louisiana that serves bean dip with the chips and and salsa. Our waiter was polite and helpful, attentive but not hovering. We’ll be back again in a few months and look forward to stopping in again.“
“I went to the new location in Alexandria and tried their burrito (carnitas the 1st time and steak the 2nd time). Was super happy both times! Friendly staff, good prices, and amazing food. Don't sleep on this one, guys. Let's make sure this business thrives and can be in our area for years to come.“
“Awesome place! I was up there for a high school playoff game and stopped here for some takeout since it was close to the school. I ordered the Carne Asada with Chilaquiles Roja, and Cazulela de Pastor (pork, pineapple, & cheese) -- I highly recommend both of these dishes! Both were excellent. If I'm ever back in town for another game, I'll definitely stop here.“
