After an incredible weekend in New Orleans, I found myself with a few hours to spare before my flight. With luggage in tow and my work computer in hand, I stopped into Tavern on Citrus—and I couldn’t have chosen a better place to spend the day.

What was meant to be a quick stop turned into a six-hour visit (thanks to a delayed flight), and honestly, I was grateful for the extra time. From the moment I walked in, I was met with an unbelievable level of hospitality and warmth. It felt less like I was dining in a restaurant and more like someone had called ahead to say, “Make room—we’ve got a guest who belongs here.”

The food? Absolutely delicious. The service? Impeccable. Every person I interacted with went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. I even had the chance to enjoy some great conversation with the staff while getting a bit of work done.

They kindly let me charge my electronics, and I left feeling full, refreshed, and truly cared for. But the real test of character came when I accidentally left my work laptop behind—something incredibly valuable to both me and my organization. By the time I realized it, I was halfway to the airport. I called in a panic, and not only did they have it safely behind the counter with a note and my name on it (they had pulled my info from my card to make sure it got back to the right person), but the owner personally ran out to hand it off to my Uber driver curbside so I wouldn’t miss my flight.

As someone who has worked in recruiting for the hospitality industry, I’ve always said: you can teach someone the policies, the systems, the menu—but you can’t teach someone how to genuinely care. That’s what true hospitality is, and Tavern on Citrus has it in abundance.

I left not only with a full belly, but with the kind of impression that lasts. I genuinely felt sad to leave, and now this spot is permanently on my must-visit list every time I’m in New Orleans. “My wife and i are traveling and wanted to watch the play off game. We are out of towners.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the bartender Megan and another wonderful woman who i would think was the owner and or manger. We were made to feel as if we were long time patons. The service was outstanding.
The food was delicious, we had the cheeseburger, quesadilla and grabbed wings and potato skins to go.
We felt welcomed and at home at this local sports bar.“

“Everyone has heard the phrase… “Do not judge a book by its cover. Well, I almost did. When you go to Tavern on Vets, the outside makes you a little skeptical. Windows blacked out, not sure which door to use. You walk in and it is kind of dark. But, then you sit down. You then see, etched in the mirror, “A Loser Friendly Atmosphere”. I could not help but laugh. The service was fantastic. The bartender was friendly like someone you knew your whole life. The food, oh man the food. For a small bar kitchen, the food was cooked with such flavor and presentation. Now, there was one small error made on my wife’s wrap but it was quickly taken care of without complaint. We are only here for the week, we just might go back and read that book again.“
