“What an amazing place. In these times when we are still not comfortable dining indoors this place rocks. The chef behind these dishes knows a thing or two about bringing beer garden food to a totally new level. Thank you chef and staff in front of the house.“

“I love this place so much. I live in PA, have a husband and children, and still contemplate leaving them for the day to drive to Bakey and pick up a boatload of baked good. It’s that good. Please please please consider coming to the Lehigh valley!!“

“What a nice little bagel shop. What really impressed me about this place is the service, large portions and the very fair pricing of goods. To be honest after having NY bagels, these don't seem as chewy in the middle, but for Boston they are good. Also, I've bought a chocolate croissant. The croissant didn't have that flakey buttery texture of a typical French style croissant. But, I will say they've made up for it as it was huge. The bagel and the cream cheese filling was very generous as well. If you want good value and good portions this is a place to go to.“

“Tucked just off the steady rhythm of Commonwealth Avenue, Kyo Matcha doesn’t announce itself loudly. It doesn’t need to. The space is small, almost deliberately so—light wood, clean lines, a quiet hum of conversation. It feels less like a destination and more like a pause. The kind of place you slip into between obligations, not to indulge extravagantly, but to recalibrate.
The dessert arrives without theatrics: a swirl of matcha and milk soft serve, crowned and partially engulfed by glossy black boba. But what looks simple quickly turns layered, almost architectural in its contrasts. The soft serve itself is restrained—this is not the aggressively sweet, artificial matcha that dominates so many menus. The green tea carries a gentle bitterness, clean and slightly grassy, grounded by the mellow sweetness of the milk base. It’s balanced, deliberate, and, importantly, adult.
Then there’s the boba. Still warm.
That detail changes everything.
The pearls sit beneath and along the side of the ice cream, their heat slowly bleeding into the cold cream, creating a shifting boundary between temperatures. Each bite becomes unstable in the best way: cold turns lukewarm, creamy meets elastic chew, sweetness deepens and then recedes. The boba itself is soft without collapsing, with just enough resistance to remind you it was cooked moments ago. It’s not a topping—it’s a counterpoint.
What makes this dessert work is not novelty, but tension. Temperature against temperature. Bitterness against sugar. Airy softness against dense chew. Nothing dominates; everything negotiates.
In a city where dessert often leans toward excess—more sugar, more toppings, more spectacle—Kyo Matcha feels almost corrective. It strips things back, focuses on texture, on flavor integrity, on proportion. The portion isn’t oversized. The space isn’t loud. And that restraint is precisely the point.
It’s the kind of place you go when you don’t want to be overwhelmed—just quietly reminded that even something as simple as ice cream and tea can still surprise you, if done with care.“

“We came in today with our friends and our daughter. The staff were incredibly accommodating, providing a high chair and making sure we had what we needed. The owners came over and were attentive and showed enthusiasm for us being there as well interacting with our daughter. Food and drink was incredible and came out quick.
Would absolutely come again. It was so lovely to have a meal where it felt celebrated to have a kid with us and to be able to enjoy good food at the same time.“

“Ordered the strawberry yogurt slush and it was truly amazing! I chose the lowest sugar level and you can really taste the fresh fruit in there (the natural strawberry aroma). The yogurt is creamy and flavorful, and the crystal boba (not sure if that’s the name, the slightly crunchy one) in the drink is fresh too.
Will def visit again!“

“Great bakery and coffee shop to visit on a morning alone or with friends. Both the line and seating is deceiving because it looks quite busy and like seating or ordering me take a while but both move very quickly! The pistachio lattes to die for!“

“My favorite, # 1 bakery in the Boston area. I've been coming here for years. Lots of, lots of love for this place and folks. ❤️❤️❤️🫶 Their breads and pastries are simply the best. It’s the kind of bread that takes you straight back to your grandma’s kitchen.
Over the years, they've gotten incredibly popular, and the lines now can be a bit much, especially on weekends or holidays. So I don’t stop by as often these days, but they’ll always have a special place in my heart.“
