“There was a version of the Lake that had a much different flavor 30 years ago. It was an Italian enclave, with a history that is very much different than the rest of Newton. Nonantum, or "The Lake," was the village with the oldest synagogue. It was right down the street from a Catholic church that, in my opinion, has an interior that has made me cry over the sheer artistic splendor of it.Tradition still plays a large part in this changing neighborhood, and it is finely displayed in this small sub shop on Watertown St. Like the old days, food prices were lower and food portions were a bit larger, and Guiseppe's does not try and overwhelm the customer with grandiose decor or expensive decorations, they are here to make you a sandwich or a salad.My honest recommendation is to go to Guiseppe's, and learn a little about the duality of this wonderful neighborhood. Sample the simpler part of the Lake and remember to leave a nice cash tip, because you're getting a lot of value out of the hard work of the owners!“

“I am happy and glad they do not have restrooms.Restrooms bring a lot of bacteria to places, specifically food places, which would not be an ideal to prevent sickness among each other. It’s better and sanitary for customers to pay for their food and take it with them or carry hand wipes with them if they want to sit down to eat.“
“After being unable to give a phone order for takeout at a snooty vegan place nearby that, snootily, doesn’t accept them, we were welcomed at Billy’s, even though they were surely busy when we called.When we arrived, we asked if they might have a bathroom we could use even though there was absolutely no apparent public restroom. Thing is, my friend is mostly blind and likes to drink coffee, meaning I always need to look for a place for her to go. Several employees went out of their way to accommodate us in their very tiny prep and kitchen spaces as we moved through to use their private restroom in the back. ?It was so very kind and thoughtful and if I could give them 10 stars I would! ?Simple consideration, like answering the phone to take an order and letting someone use the restroom even if it inconveniences their operations for a moment, demonstrates LOVE is still alive in the world and it can be found at Billys! OMG, and then there was the food!!! The omelettes were amazing, the home fries were delicious and when we wished we had gotten ketchup with our takeout, there it was in the bag, along with the extra napkins for my friend. And don’t get me started on the blueberry pancakes… Amazing!!!?The value was unbeatable and even as we were walking out the door, the love continued as I was carefully handed two coffees in a carrier and our paper bag of food as they could see I was leading my friend. “SHIRLEY has been a bright light in my life since it opened a few doors down from me. Kat is a one woman show and cares deeply about where food comes from & her customers!! Her menu is based on fruits and veg that are in season, and rotates frequently. Whenever I come in to pick up an order, she always takes the time to point out new vegan items on the menu, tell me about her plans, and even chat for a few minutes, all while she's prepping orders. The bread is famous for a reason. It's versatile and so comforting! “Happened upon the Square Deli when a friend were in Chelsea for a medical test. OMGOODNESS. It was amazing. The menu was huge and so were the sandwiches. We had a Reuben and Paisano with lotsa fresh ingredients including yummy fresh bread. Served with homemade chips and pickles. Enough for 2 meals or to split if we agreed on the sandwich, lol. The owner was SO nice and friendly and accommodating. We opted for take out containers for another meal and the chocolate chip (homemade & huge) again with a great balance of soft in the middle and crispy on edges. They have been working on their cookies for a while, so they say, I think it's by far the best cookie I have ever had! hopefully don't have to go back for medical tests but would definitely field trip for their pizza next which has won many awards.“

“The prepared items from Judith's Kitchen are some of the healthiest and most delicious foods you will find anywhere and at such reasonable prices!! We are from out of state, but will return each time we are back to see my surgeon. The salmon burger, the black bean burger, the coleslaw, the potato salad, the lentil soup, the roasted vegetables, and literally everything else are just fabulous!!! The owners are precious people and treat us with such warmth. I can't recommend this restaurant more highly. I just wish they would relocate to upstate New York!“
