“I used to come to this place once and twice a week and I’ve always enjoyed my time. The waiters and bartenders are awesome, the food is incredible and kitchen stays open late! They have outdoor and indoor seating. They have board games accessible for those sitting outside and I just love it. They only downfall, and it truly is a downfall, is I would buy 4 beers and two shots and the bill would be $80.

It’s been about 4 months since I’ve been there, and that’s because on night I was there about 20 minutes when my car got towed. What bothered me, was the lack of warning from the bar. They were aware of the towing’s that had increased and they didn’t say anything until I found my car missing. What was meant to be a quick nightcap after a hard day at work, ended up being a $300 night. I haven’t been back since.“

“Wow! Probably one of my new favorite spots in DC! Literally everything we tried was phenomenal - and I think these are the best fries I've had in DC! I got Madam VP Heritage, and my husband got the Mumbai Mariachi. Our kids got the Classique Grilled Cheese, which was delicious (I want to know what bread they used) and perfectly balanced with the ham and Swiss. We finished our meal with the alfajores, which I didn't get a photo of because we gobbled them up. But I was incredibly impressed with the food and service. Reasonably priced (especially for where it's located), bright and airy. It is a bit small, so it would be difficult to accommodate a large group, but there's plenty of seating, and there were several folks here reading and just hanging out on a Friday mid day. I can't recommend this spot enough - as a gastroadvocacy spot, it was already intriguing enough, and the diverse (and changing) menu is exceptionally executed! Excited to come back and try more things on the menu - with a side of fries!

Vegetarian options: There are very clearly labeled vegetarian and vegan options. It's not an extensive selection, but they are delicious!

Parking: It's definitely in a difficult area to find parking since it's in the heart of the city and close to many tourist attractions.

Kid-friendliness: There is no kids menu, but it's reasonably kid friendly otherwise. Our kids really enjoyed the grilled cheese and fries and cookies. May not be suitable for children who are very picky.“

Give this place a try-trust me (portions may seem small, but it was very filling- we ordered the bowl of fries, which came with a delicious sauce, CROQUETTES, fish burger, beef burger, and gnocchi pomodoro. “During the NHL season Matchbox is one of my go-to spots given their location, good food and generally friendly servers. This view tested yesterday. Three buddies and I had reserved a high-top table in the bar area for pregame dinner and drinks. The confirmation we received reflected our wishes. When we arrived (2 min before our reservation time) the Manager informed us that no high-tops were available and that we would have to sit at a regular table. When we questioned how this was possible he claimed that seating was a only request and that he could not hold bar tables “for an hour“ even if they were reserved. He never apologized and to make matters worse would not give us the happy hour drink specials available at the bar even after I showed him our confirmation and tried to reason with him. This “Manager“ should not be in a client facing role. Our very pleasant and efficient server would make a far better Manager.“

“Yes! I love the concept. I love how it’s a hand made patty and the burger was cooked perfectly. In addition, you have an option to add items to your burger if you do the build your burger option. You can also choose their preselected choices which look really good. I chose to add sautéed onions, bacon, and Italian sausage. I will say although the Italian sausage was good, I wouldn’t add it again; it didn’t hurt the burger overall. You choose your seasoning (I chose basic), sauce (house bbq), lettuce and tomato. I also ordered the seasoned fries (garlic parmesan). I was curious so I asked for the spicy ranch. It was pretty good.“

“Lovely ambiance! We sat at the bar and had the three course menu. I was gluten free and the staff was so great about accommodating me! The food was very tasty with great flavors and texture. I really enjoyed all the courses. The beef was so tender and flavorful. I thoroughly enjoyed the dessert as well. The only downside was that we had been walking all day through the city and my phone had died. I was hoping they might be able to let me charge my phone briefly so we could get home but they were unable to do allow that.“

“Exceptional service, spectacular and interesting food. Visiting for a conference and a peer recommend Tabard Inn. I had a bib salad with a ginger vinaigrette dressing that tasted so fresh! Then I had the flank steak medium rare that was the best, most flavorful and tender I have ever had. I was dining with friends, one had the filet mignon and the other the pork chop. Again, they were commenting on how perfectly they were prepared. The menu states no substitutions, and I understand why. Every item and spice was purposeful, and every flavor was complementary. At the end, they brought out the smallest squares - less than 1/2 inch square- of a caramel, and a berry flavor. That little bite is filled with flavor! I can't wait to come back when I get back to DC.“
