“This is a great cocktail bar that also happens to have pretty good food! The only thing holding this review from being 5 stars is that the owner needs to assign more staff to the Saturday evening shift. There was 25-30 customers between 6:30 and 8pm on a Saturday, but only TWO employees working outside the kitchen. No host, no busser, no server. Just ONE waiter and ONE bartender during prime time dinner hours. The bartender was serving food instead of bartending and the waiter was frantically trying to take orders from 10+ tables. No one was bussing (dirty tables were left unattended until new customers arrived) and you had to find the waiter or bartender in order to get a seat. I hope the owner or manager sees this because I felt so bad for the two staff trying to run the front house of this restaurant on a Saturday night. They were doing their best and deserve more help so they can provide better service to customers.“

Very happy with the food (delicious, fresh tacos), drinks (spicy margarita and watermelon tequila drink were a hit!), and the service was friendly and prompt. It was a massive mistake - my wife and I thought we would 'give it a try' and I am kicking myself for all the times we drove into DC from Silver Spring looking for a fun place to eat! From the moment we met Aidan Rinehart the GM, until we received and paid the check, we were blown away by the vibey atmosphere, the speed of delivery and the great tasting and well presented food. Alyssa, our server, deserves a special mention for her knowledge of the products, her attentive but unobtrusive service and exceptional friendliness. She is an absolute asset to Zinnia and we hope that she'll be there for as long as we patronise ZInnia, and it is well worth patronising. We look forward to trying the dinner menu, but we will definitely be back for a repeat 'Tavern' experience as well Compliments to the owner, GM, chef and staff - see you all again soon!“

“Celebrated my birthday at Empress Coffee & Cocktails with my girls, and it was everything! The food and drinks were incredible -- we tried so many dishes and loved every bite. The Persian pizza (a house favorite) was full of flavor, the soup and grilled cheese combo was pure comfort, and the turkey + havarti sandwich, bacon egg croissant, and margarita pizza were all delicious and perfectly done. The drinks? Just wow. The espresso martini is an absolute yes! We also loved the butterfly margarita, lava-shak martini, and Malibu sunset -- all beautifully crafted and fun to sip. Plus, they offer a nice selection of wines and juices to purchase. Shots were order as well. Had too much fun didn't take pictures of all the food and drinks. The space itself is perfect for a girls' day or night out -- stylish and cozy with beautiful lighting and thoughtful décor. We especially loved the artwork of the girl with the pearl earrings -- such a fun and elegant touch! We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves, which made the whole evening feel extra special. Huge shoutout to Sam, the owner, who was such a warm and welcoming host. “As an woman who loves Ethiopian music, nostalgia, and the comfort of familiar songs, it can be hard to find a place where you can go by yourself, enjoy live music, and still feel safe, welcomed, and at home. That is exactly where Mulushewa in Silver Spring stands out.

I became familiar with Mulushewa about a year and a half ago. I don’t remember exactly what my first show was, but I remember the feeling clearly: I walked in and felt at home. Over time, it has become more than just a restaurant or live music spot for me. It has become my go-to place, almost like family.

The live band, the singers, and the overall atmosphere bring so much warmth and joy. The music carries that special Ethiopian nostalgia — the kind that reminds you of home, memories, culture, and community. Mulushewa has also become a home for incredible Ethiopian artists, including Abegazu Shiota, Yohannes Tonha, Abdu Kiar and many other talented singers and musicians.

I highly recommend Mulushewa to any Ethiopian woman, or anyone who loves Ethiopian music, who wants to go out, enjoy live music, feel safe, and experience the beauty of our culture in a welcoming space. It is truly a special place in Silver Spring.“

“We were a birthday party of six and the dining event went very well. The food which was ordered included the Perch Burger, Shrimp Cappellini. and the Seafood Cobb Salad. All of the food was carefully prepared and served. The restaurant did not have butter for the entry bread because an earlier buffet event had exhausted the supply. The interior is beautifully designed with several attractive dining areas. The noise level was moderate. Our server was very attentive to our needs.“

Pimento crab dip was an unctuous blend of wonderful flavors and definitely worth the calories. Deviled eggs were heavy on the mustard, but still good.
The local MD raw oysters were not at the level I expected, they were blander and the liquor was waterier than I wanted. The stuffies were quite salty and the smoked flavor from the linguica overpowered the rest of the filling.

“We dined as a family of five on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was spectacular while sitting on the patio overlooking the beautiful grounds. Our meal started with wings and soup. The wings were the perfect level of crispness with bold flavor. We also ordered the new tomato soup and that was rich, warm, creamy and deliciously we would definitely order it again. When our entree’s arrived we were left disappointed. I ordered the 8 oz filet with fries, and two spices, Gael I butter and brandy pepper corn. The filet was drowned in what I can only describe as McCormick’s Montreal Steak Seasoning. I am a purist and believe a fine cut of steak only needs salt and pepper. I could only make it half way through my steak because of the tremendous amount of salt. I was disappointed that it was a house blend of spices especially with a chef in the kitchen. The steak sauces while had a great flavor were over powered by the extreme seasonings and were severed cold and mildly gelatinous. My husband got the steak and seafood trio. He raved about the lobster ravioli however his steak was full of gristle and not very edible. We ended our meal with a crème brûlée. The custard was missing the bold vanilla flavor and was pretty bland. The sugar crust was crop and perfect. The cocktails were made fresh and delicious however when the check arrived we realized that we were charged full price instead of the happy hour pricing. Overall, the appetizers and cocktails were delicious and the atmosphere can’t be beat. We are hoping we just came on an off night for the chef. We hope to come back to try it again. We can certainly see the potential.“
