“Ive passed by this restaurant for years and never bothered to visit. After hearing it was the spot where the actual Greek community frequents, I decided it was finally time to give it a shot.

So first off, it's important to note that this a sit down. The exterior and my familiarity with places like Big Greek or Marathon made me assume this was carry-out, but no this is definitely a place you should dine in. The menu is small (green flag for sure) and I had to get the platter since I didn't see a wrap version which is always my go to.

Well... They clearly know whats best. The ingredients and quality are unmatched by even my favorite take out gyro spots. Also great and super attentive service. Will definitely return. Super impressed.“

“My Family and I stopped here because we love Greek food and heard this was authentic Greek food. First thing I tried was the calamari appetizer, as we are from Louisiana and love our seafood. The calamari hands down was the best I have ever had. The texture, the flavor, everything about it was fantastic. You can get that kind of quality in a 5 Star restaurant. Next home made fry’s, absolutely delicious. Don’t left me forget the Spanakopita, first time hearing it and eating and also fell in love with it. I had the Big Fat Gyro lamb, as well as my son and wife. Again another fantastic dish. Full of flavor and the size of these are huge so you’re getting a great deal. My wife also order a platter of Souvlaki and a Gyro platter as well for us to try. Completely delicious. Hands down such a great place. I will definitely be coming back my next trip. “We came by to hike at Rock Creek without doing any research on where to eat after. That was a mistake, as we were hungry and needed good options fast. It was either this Greek place or the Thai place across the road. We eat Thai all the time, so the unanimous decision was this Greek!

The waiter and all the staff were very friendly. The place and decoration themselves are a little odd. However, it was clean. The highlight is the taste of the food. All the dishes we ordered were spot on. I cannot remember their names, but there was nothing bad I could recall. If I'm ever in the area, I'd come again.“

The shrimp dish was good but shrimp were slightly overcooked and felt like a very expensive starter. The hummus was delish! Wine was great and cocktail was less than amazing.“

With my aunt having difficulty getting around, it’s nice to have a place that’s mainly flat so she doesn’t have to do stairs. They’re always accommodating, and it’s a warm and welcoming atmosphere. “My first time here and I was impressed with how nice and friendly the lady at the counter was. She gave me potatoes to try and lamb. It was quick, and the food was amazing.
I got a small plate with 2 types of chicken, tiny bit of lamb to try, orzo, green beans. Flavor was popping, food was warm and plenty 😋 it was all in one container so it didnt look very artsy but it tasted sooo good that I ate all of it and it was def 2 or 3 serving size for someone my size. 😆 and the bread that came with was amazing, smelled and tasted fresh. Outside was crispy ish yet soft and inside very fluffy. My only one issue was that green beans was very oily. But I still ate it all.
Overall- will def go back, and may bring my friends. Def will bring family. They have so many chicken, lamb, turkey varieties for those who dont want pork or beef all the time.
It was just me and a friend so we sat in their tiny table but I will say this is take out place. Not a lot of space to sit and eat. It gets busy too, but they are extremely quick with service.“

“In recent years there seems to be a proliferation of small-plate Mediterranean restaurants. But Yayla remains as one of the best, reasonably priced originals in northern Virginia. There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. Friends chose a range of other dishes. I can guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Everything is flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. Wait staff and servers are friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and not obtrusive. Don’t miss the nice selection of creative cocktails, wine variety and desserts. “Their signature thing The Gyro is spot on copious gyro meat balanced well with tomatoes, onions and tzatki. The side Greek Salad was tasty but heavy on the greens and a real Greek salad is cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, green peppers. I ordered way too much as the Gyro is a lot. Enjoy! Opa!!
PS Dolmades are cooked fresh when you order and are hot which was me to me, but also spot on. A really good side if you like Dolmades.“

“This Greek restaurant in Potomac, MD is a hidden gem. The lobster spaghetti was rich and perfectly balanced, and the dessert—simple, elegant, unforgettable. The menu is carefully curated, and it shows. This is their second restaurant—the first has been around for over 30 years. They know what they’re doing. Small space, so definitely make a reservation—but bar seating is just as good (we sat there and loved it). Carlos the bartender and the whole staff were amazing. We were the only Black/brown folks there, and felt completely welcomed. Don’t miss this spot—real food, real hospitality, real experience.“

“The best Greek food I have had in a VERY long time and I am married to a Greek! We had the Gyro and chicken souvlaki sandwiches with a side Athena Greek salad and Greek potatoes. OMG!!! Those potatoes were so delicious! They know how to cook authentic food and they aren’t chintzy with the meat in their sandwiches. The only downside is the appearance inside as it is in need of a little sprucing up and some music would be nice but don’t let that deter you of trying the food. It’s so worth it!“

“I came to Astor after a long day of work to eat and decompress, and I was greeted with so much hospitality and kindness. I was gifted lentil soup along with a complimentary pastry to eat with my espresso. This experience was one of my favorites. It was such a blessing to experience the kindness of others in such an unexpected way. The falafel pita was so fresh and delicious, the fries were just right. The espresso had such a smooth flavor as well. I’m very impressed and will definitely return in the near future.“

“This is the kind of place that you go to as a single person trying to get a quality meal without breaking the bank- you then take take someone there for a brunch date- further down the line you make it a regular place for you two. Flash forward you now have a family and introduce the kids to and they also love it. My point is this is the kind of place you will always go to and at every point in your life it will be there for you. I went with my girlfriend and now she's my wife and we still love it. When my Grandmother had severe dementia and didnt enjoy much she still loved going here and the staff and atmosphere gave her the feeling of being somewhere familiar and welcoming. New places opening up wont be like this which is why its so important to keep supporting City Diner- lets not make this a place that we only appreciate once its gone- its a place beyond the food- its a true family restaurant that has been there through multiple generations of my family.“
