“Ports of Italy is one of our absolute favorite restaurants—not only in town, but in all of Maine. We travel throughout the state quite a bit, and few restaurants consistently impress us the way Ports of Italy does. Everything we’ve ever ordered has been absolutely delicious, with the eggplant appetizer being a particular favorite. The atmosphere is equally wonderful: cozy and intimate, yet distinctly coastal and perfectly suited to its setting.

We also have to give a special shoutout to George, our favorite server. He is incredibly kind, genuine, and attentive without ever being overbearing. We genuinely look forward to being seated at one of his tables each time we visit. Great food, a wonderful atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality make Ports of Italy a place we’re always happy to return to.”

“When visiting Maine two years ago, my husband and I were looking for gluten free restaurants, which can be quite the chore. After reading the reviews for Shannon's, we drove to Boothbay and couldn't believe all the gluten free options. We ordered more food than we needed because there were so many options. Everything was fresh and delicious. Seriously, gluten free onion rings! During that trip, we ate there twice and twice again the next year. We are looking forward to next year's trip and more Shannon's food. In addition to the food, the staff are warm, welcoming and friendly and make you feel like a neighbor instead of a tourist. We are huge Shannon's Unshelled fans!”

“We just tried Vera Idyllic Pizza for the first time and we were impressed. We tried both pizza and calzone - both were excellent. The pizza dough was tasty and well cooked. The red sauce had good flavor and there was none of the ugly garlic powder or sugary flavor that you sometimes get on pizzas at other locations.
This was a cash only place when we visited.”

“We went to the Salty Stag for a casual lunch and the view was beautiful. Our server Jana (dp?) was helpful and attentive in spite of serving customers outdoors on the patio along with us being indoors. Our meals were very delicious with generous portions. In particular was the amount of lobster in the Lobster Mac and Cheese! So good and too much for one person. ( We ended up taking a huge portion home .) I also recommend the SPI Cooler for a nonalcoholic refreshingly yummy beverage! It's made with 4 different fruits and really hit the spot on a summer day! Finally, we decided to get desserts to go since we were full but wanted something sweet to have later. We got two of the decadent chocolate flourless tortes. They were packed perfectly so when we ate them later they looked as nice as if we had eaten them at Spruce Point! Thanks to this lovely experience we now look forward to returning for a dinner at their upscale Whiteclover dining room! I hope to have the Lobster Thermidor !!!”

“We've been going to Karen's for many years. The ambience is side-of-the-road but the food is amazing. The crab BLT is to die for. The fries are always great. I always manage to wrangle loaded baked potato salad and pineapple coleslaw sides because they are both super delicious and I shouldn't have to choose! Love Karen's!”

“Baker's Way is a local favorite! This place has solid breakfast sandwiches (the owner always recommends egg cheese bacon or sausage on a croissant!), apple fritters, & cinnamon rolls. Prices are reasonable. The owner is very kind. Sometimes they give you extra goodies before closing the store for the day :P Can't recommend this place enough.”

“Spectacular doesn’t begin to describe our experience at Grey Havens Inn! From the moment we arrived, the magnificent harbor view beckoned us to sit in a big ol’ rocking chair on the Inn’s lovely porch, cocktail in hand & relax completely into the moment. Oh & sunsets? Outstanding! Our first moments at Grey Havens were so warm & welcoming. Actually even before arriving, calls with innkeepers, Ali & Carlos, had us beyond excited for our initial stay. I say initial because of course we definitely will return & soon I hope! I could list endlessly all the delightful elements that the Grey Havens team have combined to create a place in which one can truly & gloriously unwind. From the lovely & cozy guest rooms to the gorgeous bay-windowed common room (with its stunning actual bay-view) the vibe is marvelous. Grey Havens feels quintessentially seaside Maine with just the barest but perfect touch of some lovingly placed & demure whimsy to intrigue a curious eye. Our initial stay dates did not overlap with Blue’s calendar, sadly. However the many tales we heard of Chef Esau’s creations have us drooling in anticipation. We will ensure we enjoy a dinner at Blue upon our return to Grey Havens.”
