About Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips

Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips is a cozy, family-run restaurant with a strong reputation for serving delicious fish and chips. For over 30 years, the restaurant has maintained its crispy and flavorful batter and flaky fish, earning it the title of best in Detroit. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a nostalgic nautical theme, with old-fashioned decor that adds to its charm. Despite being a cash-only, hole-in-the-wall business, the restaurant is always busy, especially during Lent. The half-order fish and chips, with the option to substitute fries for a baked potato, are a popular choice. Customers praise the fish flown in from Nova Scotia, cooked perfectly with a light batter, and the fries, which are considered some of the best in Detroit. The signature coleslaw is notably light and tasty, allowing the vegetables to shine through. The onion rings are also highly recommended, along with the giant bread roll served alongside. The friendly staff and owner’s hands-on approach create a warm, family-like atmosphere. Visitors often find the food reminiscent of childhood favorites, and many return multiple times, noting how even second visits exceed expectations. Though the decor may seem old and dusty, the overall experience and quality of food make Scotty Simpson's Fish & Chips a beloved spot for families and anyone craving satisfying, traditional fish and chips.

Best fish and chips around. A real treasure. Every one so polite and pleasant. Thank you

Scotty’s Fish n chips is a must. It was delicious and all four of us enjoyed the meal! Amazing friendly service at such a busy time! It was packed especially with it being Lent.

My mom grew up in the area and introduced me to this place. Fish is wonderful, rolls and pies are wonderful! Cash only and it’s such an interesting place!
