“I came here today on my birthday and I asked the girl what they do for birthdays and unfortunately I didn’t have the app but the girl still gave me a discount for my birthday and when I got to the window the girl was super sweet and seemed like she loved her job and when I got my drink this was on it and they even wrote “happy birthday yay!” On my cup the drink was good and so was my cake pop I come here pretty frequently and every time I come here no matter how busy they are they still do a good job!!“

“By far, the best stops at tim hortons I've had. The young man who helped us was amazing! The food was fantastic, and he made the best Cafe Mocha I've had in a long time. 5⭐️?? I'm sorry, I don't remember the young man's name but great job!“

“A big shout ot to Jason and Matthew for an outstanding McDonalds experience. in fact this entire staff seemed to all be working fairly well together. Many smiles and Jason and Natthew exemplified outstanding customer service skills and went above and beyond making My aged Mother and my experience pleasant and positive. “I love Strange Matter! Having a location on campus is a total lifesaver for students like me who don’t have a car and can’t easily get to their other shops. The coffee is spectacular—you can truly taste the quality in every cup. Their doughnuts are just as incredible and are my favorite in East Lansing (or honestly, anywhere). The staff is amazing—always so kind and welcoming, no matter how busy it gets. Special shoutout to Eli for their awesome energy and for getting me hooked on iced coffee (I usually only drink hot so this was a big move for me lol).
I also really appreciate Strange Matter’s values—they actively support important causes like LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s equality, reproductive justice, and more. It makes supporting them feel even more meaningful.
As a now-alum, I’m truly going to miss stopping by for their delicious drinks, treats, and the all-around fantastic atmosphere. The next time I’m in town, the MSU Union Strange Matter will definitely be my first stop.

“I'm a regular at this place and it's awesome. The coffee shop has a bunch of different coffees and teas that I really like. Personally, I'm a fan of the Yemeni tea. I totally recommend this place - it's one of the best spots for a coffee or tea in Lansing.“

“Lovely little coffee shop! I enjoy their Westside location and am so glad to have a spot on the Eastside that is more convenient for me. The space is bright and welcoming, the baristas have always been friendly and helpful, and the staff has been very accommodating of my service dog and I. They even asked and provided him with a pup cup during our last visit! (To be clear, they are not a pet friendly business and only allow service animals per the ADA.) I typically order tea, though they have a nice selection of coffees and pastries as well. My only critique is that I wish they had more cozy, lounge-type seating, since right now they have mostly desks (although with plenty of outlets for online work). We've been here a few times already since they opened the Okemos location and will continue to visit often!“

“Bree and the entire team at the Trowbridge Biggby are the best! I stop by here frequently for an energy boost on the way to class and they are always extremely friendly and fast!“

“Finding fried vegan donuts can be nearly impossible. Therefore, I have to stop at Strange Matter every time I’m in Lansing. Almost all of their pastries are vegan. My non-vegan friends love their donuts too. They also sell vegan scones and pop tarts. I’ve enjoyed every donut I’ve had from there, but I recommend the blueberry, the Boston cream (pictured) and the sugar cookie (pictured, seasonal). The sugar cookie donut tastes like what Starbucks thinks a sugar cookie tastes like (I mean this positively. It’s one of the best donuts I’ve ever had). Their savory everything donut filled with vegan cream cheese is also amazing. For coffee, they have oat milk and almond milk. I’m not a proficient judge of coffee, but the oat milk sugar cookie latte I got was good. I do wish they had soy milk as an option. Updated from previous review on 2026-01-16“
