“The SE MI Brewery Discovery Tour continues. (I'm done counting, it takes too much effort)
The building used to be a church. I personally love that repurposing. (Once saw a church knocked down to put in a Walmart! ) The layout works great: big U-shaped bar surrounded by 4-seat high-top tables. The all-important stainless steel vessels taking the place of the pulpit & choir. 6 big screens are spread around for the sports oriented. There is a room of the back of the main one with big leather-clad easy chairs & an actual fireplace. So cozy.
The free parking is in the back but you have to enter from the Biergarten which is entered from the corner. So, if you or a compadre are using a wheelchair, get dropped off at the corner.
The beer list is pretty broad, 2 pages, the food menu is of decent size.
Got a Lip Lock Cherry stout followed by a Peach Blonde. The stout was less sweet than expected (based on nothing) but nicely balanced. The peach version of the Dirty Blonde was tasty and refreshing.
Ate an Atwater Brat in-between. The brat was OK. The pretzel bun was good, the toppings (cheese, jalapeños, bacon bits) were good, too. The brat itself was the weak spot, tasted too much like a big hotdog.“

“Charming. An old school Italian restaurant in a charming part of Grosse Pointe Park. A family friendly restaurant without being adult unfriendly ?. I went with a classic lasagna and it tasted like I was a “made man” in the Corleone family or something. Heaven! Atmosphere was classy without being stuffy. Midweek dinner and not much of a crowd so we were seated right away. I think my favorite part was tomato sauce that was used in the lasagna.“

“Good was delicious and plentiful. Definitely would buy from again. Maybe if you want something added, ask for it next time ( read a lot of complaints about onions not in the fried rice) but it was delicious. Sweet and Sour sauce served as a side…perfect so the chicken doesn’t get soggy (and yes it would thicken if you let it cool-another response to a bad review). Overall, would definitely recommend. Dumplings were fantastic, soup was full of wontons.“

“Single women beware I was being followed throughout the building on the way to the elevators to get the restaurant. Followed by one guy that I saw, but when I got to the elevators he came to the elevators and another guy was behind him, he did some sign language to the other guy as they slowly walked by as I had just explained to the lady at the elevator I was being followed. I don’t know what they were planning but he definitely looked me in my face as I entered the Renaissance building, as he was already there, then he began to follow me as I saw him every time I looked back over my shoulder. Getting to these elevators are difficult so you have to stop and read the signage and figure out which way to go and he could’ve been gone on his way but No he didn't! I definitely felt uneasy and fearful. I was celebrating my birthday and meeting my niece there. Women be careful!!!!!! The salad was Great! The octopus was just ok, would not order again, the Halibut was bland but fair.“

“This is one of my favorite places to eat when I go downtown. The food is excellent and I love the atmosphere. The outdoor dining option is small, but very nice. It's on Library Street so there is not a ton of traffic. Parking in the Z Garage right around the corner is convenient and you can scan a QR code in the restaurant lobby to get your parking validated.“

“I've always been a fan of Carrots n' Dates, especially when I'm on a health food kick. Recently, the owners have done an overhaul of the restaurant and I am LOVING the staff. They're always attentive, helpful, and seem eager to learn the business. The food is always fresh and delicious. By far one of my favourite lunch picks while I'm busy working on my school work. “We tried the Detroit Pepper Company tonight, first time! We went with the Detroit Stuffed Pepper, beef with parmesan cheese. Very good taste, and huge. We also ordered the Vegan Stuffed Pepper, but we will have to try it tomorrow for lunch...too full from the Detroit Stuffed Pepper! We also tried the lentil bean soup, very nice. And my wife enjoyed the Mango Tastic smoothie:-) We're happy to learn about the Detroit Pepper Company, and we'll be back. Highly recommended. The owner did reach out to me to apologize and offer cleaning/replacements for my clothing. They also spoke with the staff to make a training and learning lesson for them which I appreciate. I’m changing my rating of the experience based on Owen’s response, as most owners do not attempt to rectify a bad situation.

I have never had an experience as bad as the one I just had at Firebird Tavern. Needless to say I will never return or recommend this place to anyone. The visit started well and our server was very pleasant and attentive. Halfway through our visit, a full tray of drinks and shots was spilled on me to the point that a mop was needed and a wet floor signed was placed behind me. Not only that, but my white shirt is stained and not reparable. I was soaked. The server eventually did apologize to me and told me that she was personally comping ONE of my drinks. First of all, I would NEVER expect the server to comp any drinks. Second of all, I was never approached by the manager to access the damage or talk about comps, WHICH I would assume from the establishment itself. When we were brought our bill, I asked the server, ‘what is the establishment taking care of for my damages’. The manager eventually came to talk to me and did not seem aware of the situation, even after many servers explained what happened and I showed him my clothing that was still wet and stained. He simply replied that the server was comping one drink and he would see what he could do. The server came back with the same bill, no initiative from the bar or manager and I paid for the bill as it was. How is this acceptable from a bar that my table paid several rounds of drinks and food for the night? I have never experienced this lack of care in my life and cannot express my disappointment and frustration with the management and overall experience of Firebird. What an embarrassment to our city. As a resident of the downtown area, I would never expect such a terrible experience.“

“I have been coming to this Blimpie location for almost 15 years. It was my main place to eat on campus when I went to WSU, and I continue to eat here years later even after finishing my schooling. Not only because of the great halal subs, but because of the atmosphere and welcoming personality and hospitality of the owner and his son. I feel like I'm going to visit an old friend every time I come to sit and eat. I wish them the best always, and I hope to see them here for the years to come.“

“Amazing tour! Michael our host was both entertaining and informative, definitely not stingy on the samples either! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I myself am not so much of a bourbon drinker and found that I enjoyed sipping my cocktail and the different samples. Tasting from the different barrels was an awesome experience. We plan to go to the new tour starting in January as we enjoyed this one so much! I was also able to try the other liqueurs made by detriot distillery at the end and wow!
