“We ordered takeout last night, for the first time since the new owners had their grand opening. We ordered several dishes for sharing, cashew chicken, chicken lo mein, beef pepper steak, chicken pad Thai, chicken fried rice, Rangoon, egg rolls, and hot/sour soup. Everything was delicious!“

“Des Peres location. This by far is my favorite spot, service is good, people are good, but the food is absolutely delish! The steamed brown rice and their gravy is to die for. You cannot go wrong with anything you order from here. Prices are appropriate.“

“I don’t have any complaints about this place. The staff were friendly and seemed alright to me. They helped me and got me my food quickly. It is Panda Express so if you don’t like that it might not be great but it is in a food court so you got plenty of options. The portion was great, I got the one main dish and one side bowl. It was under ten bucks (I didn’t get a drink though). It was hot and tasted great. No complaints about this place!!“

“Drove about 50 miles to try this spot out and it was definitely worth the trip! Everything we tried was fresh and delicious! My favorites were the wontons with chili oil and the pork bao buns. 😊“

Upon entry, one will be greeted by friendly and attentive staff and see a slew of patrons enjoying traditional cuisine in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The quality of the food is fantastic and the spice and seasonings of the provided dishes are consistent, and really showcase the cuisinier here care about the culinary tastes of their dishes. Perfect for a lunch date or small dinner with the family. Plan for a wait during peak hours due to patron volumes, however the food and experience are truly worth a wait.“

“NO vegetables in Shrimp St. Paul sandwich. Sweet & Sour Shrimp was 1 container of plain white rice, NO vegetables anywhere, the "shrimp" (2/3 plain fried breading & 1/3 shrimp) was NOT cooked in sweet & sour sauce, and packed separately. Quality is now abominable.“

“We were very disappointed that the sauce which came with the steamed dumplings appetizer has been changed significantly. Is way too spicy. Even the meat on the Mongolian Beef was not as tasty. Also, we used to be able to get sweet and sour pork even though not on menu, but now can't. Whoever changed the menu's and recipes should reconsider to avoid reduction in business. Thanks.“

“Well I had my usual Chinese craving that always comes at least once a month. It had been a couple days before I could finally get the time to go get some Chinese. Luckily, for me when this time came I was door dashing in U-City, because I came across this hidden gem. The restaurant itself looks very deceiving, but I had read the reviews so I knew better. I ordered the dinner special broccoli chicken and was surprised that I could add Lo Mein instead of the traditional rice as a side. It was $3 more but well worth it. It also came with a spring roll which was the only thing that I wasn't impressed with. The whole meal cost just under $14 which was well worth it. I also will say this, I ordered carry out and walked quite away back to my car. When I did get back to my car, and went to eat my food, it was so hot that if I hadn't tested it first, it would have given me 3rd degree burns in my mouth. No joke! I have no idea how they had gotten my food so hot, but it was by far the hottest food I've ever experienced and it took quite awhile for it to cool down enough to even begin to eat it. With all this said, this by far was the best Chinese food I've ever eaten! And I've eaten at a lot of different Chinese restaurants. I believe the gravy the food was prepared in was what made the difference and off the chain delicious. I would highly recommend eating here often and yes as soon as I'm anywhere near U-City I'll be stopping in to get more food from here. 5 stars all day long!“

“Good food, kind of expensive. It's worth it for the place itself (clean, good decor) and was quick too. One dish is enough for one person (I was afraid it'd be too little). They also have good vegetarian options. Anyways, I'd reccomend the eggplant and dumplings!!!“

“Hosts were attentive and frequently refilled our water cups. Everything was freshly made and hot despite it was a later dinner for us. Some food was bland (mushrooms) until combined the sauce from another dish. Buffet was reasonably priced at 12.95. We'll definitely be returning!“

“The BEST Chinese restaurant in Saint Louis. I cannot stress how clean the restaurant is and how great the food and service are. It is so hard to find a great Chinese sit down restaurant and this is the place. Fresh, delicious and always hot. I recommend this restaurant to everyone that I know. “Whole duck was delicious. First time visiting and will be back. Didn't have a chance to try anything else because it was the day of thanksgiving and the kitchen was closed to their other items and all I wanted was a whole duck anyway but will go back to try other items of the menu. Duck EXCELLENT!“

“Mostly great food. The lo mein, St Paul sandwiches, fried rice and eggs rolls are great!! The only thing I would advise against is the boneless hot braised chicken... because it is not real hot braised chicken. Instead it is breaded in beer batter and smothered in BBQ or a ketchup type sauce. So all in all stick to the classics you'll be very happy!“

“If you are craving great Chinese food, please consider giving this amazing little place a try. I found them during the pandemic and I think for an entire year while delivery was free on DoorDash I ordered them twice a week. The food was that incredible!

During that time I lived with my roommate and this place hooked us up with amazing portion sizes. We loved the Mai Fun noodles and there was always leftovers even between two people with one order! Honestly I still crave those noodles every few months or so, along with the teriyaki chicken kebabs; even with my regular order, there hasn't been a dish I've disliked so far in 4 almost 5 years.

I've never dined inside the establishment, but when I pick up my order it's always clean, the atmosphere is bustling, and the staff is so friendly. I'm not even ordering their food currently, and I didn't just finish a meal. I just noticed a past order and thought about how I needed to tell everyone how great this place is. 10/5 stars.“

“Large portion of combination plate. Ordered to-go general two’s chicken. Large crispy chicken pieces, broccoli, good sauce but not spicy (ordered regular, it said spicy). White rice is basic good white rice, not jasmine. Crab ragoon only sweet cream cheese filling, placed in same container as food, causes them to get softer. Still tastes very good. Great price for portion of food! Placed order online. Easy.

Parking: Drive thru window on side for take out orders. Small inside no seating, take out is best.“

However I will not do so since I will instead be enjoying everything about my repeated excellent experiences at China Garden on Gravois. I will leave you with this note - China Garden on Gravois is stupendous and makes all other Chinese take outs look like imitators.“

“For what it is it’s pretty great. It’s a local family owned restaurant. They are always very nice. The prices are great, and the crab Rangoon are killer. I wouldn’t expect the best plate you have had, that’s tough in Stl. We have a great Chinese food scene here, but this place is a solid go to if you are in the area.

You know how every places crab Rangoon (aka "goons") is somewhat different? Well not here! Their goons taste exactly what I think of when you think goons. Reasonably fast, and usually busy. Got a half order of plain fried rice..good.. got a side of gravy that was meh.. it was more like teriyaki sauce..it was about 815 and they close at 9p. Next time I will go early in the day when its a bit fresher.. also.. the half order box is the size of a whole order and the whole order box is way bigger than the norm.“

“Lu Lu still my favorite Chinese restaurant when I need to treat my friends for authentic traditional Chinese dinner. We were there on 09-22 Sunday evening, three of us ordered beef chow fun, sweet and sour sole fish, cashew chicken, black pepper beef hot plate. The chef cooked them together and server brought them out at the same time. Lady who served us was very friendly, she even offered to pack the leftover for us so my friends and I could engaged in conversation end of the meal. We love the food, the service and the atmosphere. “My first stop when I come in town from Florida. The food is the best Chinese food in the country. Not exaggerating. The chicken broccoli with garlic sauce is my favorite. The hot and sour soup is also the best I have ever had. The shrimp dishes are also delicious. The food is always very fresh tasting and cooked perfectly -- crisp vegetables & tender meat. The owner is so nice. I highly recommend Hunan Empress if you want a great meal with large portions and very reasonable prices. Simply put -- THE BEST!“
