“Wok Express has become my local go to. I usually go with the (Springfield) Fried Cashew Chicken and gravy or Sesame Chicken with fried rice.The crab Rangoon are old school where they are more savory than sweet. I do wish they had a St. Paul Sandwich. Give this place a try.“

“I love that it's casual, and food is so good, fast and hot. And it's not a crowded as the Olive location. Highly recommended. It is my favorite Chinese eatery!
You can't go wrong with anything that you order but I love their pork belly noodles, sizzling platter of eggplants or tofu, spicy crispy chicken or sweet and sour fish... but really, everything is great.
I normally get one familiar dish that I love, plus a new dish I've never had before. Two entrees and share with two people, you still have leftover for another meal. Just phenomenal place for lunch AND dinner.

“All Chinese restaurants in St. Louis are what I call fake Chinese food. However, I like to judge them by how they make their Singapore Mei fun which is what I always order. Well this one is delicious! Mei fun means rice noodles and Singapore Mei fun has all the meats including shrimp chicken beef and Chinese bbq pork in a slightly spicy yellow curry sauce. “I frequently dine out at places like Pei Wei but Pei Wei has become my new favorite. That is due in no small part to Jacinta, one of the employees. They were having a bit of a mid afternoon rush and she was acting as the cashier, server, bus person and just about everything else associated with front of house in a restaurant. “I have been stopping at China in Bombay every time I pass through the St. Louis area for years, and it continues to be a reliable favorite.

This visit was no exception. The beef pho was outstanding. The broth was deeply flavorful, hearty, and comforting, and the portion size was enormous. Easily one of the highlights of the meal and something I would go out of my way to order again.

I also tried the cashew shrimp and the Szechuan chicken sticks. While I personally would have preferred the shrimp fried rather than stir fried, and the chicken sticks actually served on a stick, both dishes were still very tasty and well seasoned. The flavors were bold and satisfying, even if they were slightly different from what I expected.

The food quality here is consistently excellent, and the flavors feel authentic rather than watered down. A major plus for me is that the food is halal, which makes this a dependable stop every time I am in the area.

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The space itself is small, but that is well known, and most people opt for takeout. Even so, dining in was still a pleasant experience.

China in Bombay remains a must stop for me whenever I am passing through St. Louis. Great food, generous portions, authentic flavors, and friendly service. Highly recommended.“

After checking out several restaurants that were already closed, we checked out Valley Wok’s menu. She ordered the vegetarian moo shu with tofu. “The Hunan joint down Westglen Farms has gone from not great to absolute trash. Yen Ching is long gone. Panda Express is over-sweetened garbarge food with zero flavor. “Decent place to get some Chinese food for the Creve Coeur area. I usually stick with the chicken fried rice here, the other chicken menu items can get a bit gelatin. Nonetheless this place has decent portions sizes for the prices and service is generally quick. Best part I like is for this area, if you want to order online you can customize your dishes, for example I like extra chicken, egg and onion with my fried rice. They are the only ones around that can convenient offer that option when ordering on your phone. Love it“

“Moving my reviews over from Yelp. This was a favorite for a long time! Started going there when it was for the fact that everything on the menu could be had as a $5 lunch special. Big food too.

2017 Revision:

I've decided it's time to bump them up a notch. Why? A few reasons...

1. They are always hellaciously busy and that means the food is always fresh. Always!
2. Their food is consistently better than any other similar place I've tried in the STL area.
3. I really respect the amount of business they do. Yes, that's also my #1 reason but the fact is that if you go in for lunch and spend maybe 30-minutes in the place you'll probably see them push out 50+ meals in that time with an unknown number going out for delivery as well. That's just pretty damn impressive for a little Chinese place.

They are what they are...but I respect that a little more after trying other similar places. They really are at the top of their segment.

Original 2015:

Sometimes a three star review is an indication that a place is doing just fine but that their chosen niche just doesn't warrant a higher rating. That is exactly the case with this place. They are a high-volume, counter-service place pumping out massive quantities of Americanized Chinese food. Therein lies the rub...I cannot really stick more than three stars on such a place.

I had the General Tsao chicken. It was served hot (no shit...it was lunchtime and they were slammed) and near my upper limit for spiciness at lunch. Less than 10 minutes between ordering and receipt plus everything was obviously freshly cooked.

A good portion of crispy fried chunks of chicken in a thick sauce with exactly two pieces of broccoli tossed on top as an afterthought. Add a couple of run of the mill crab rangoons and a pile of fried rice in the styrofoam clamshell and it was a pretty good value at less than $6.

I will certainly be back but not because I will be looking for a gourmet experience. Nope, I'll be back when I want a pile of steaming hot Americanized Chinese food for way less than ten bucks...and sometimes that's just fine.“

We were greeted and seated promptly. The staff seemed very attentive to the buffet and dining room area, continuously cleaning and keeping the areas orderly.

The food appeared fresh and had good flavors. The food trays were well supplied.

I verbalized a concern, and the staff addressed it immediately. Also, the cups of sherbet and ice cream lacked flavor.

Overall, it was a positive experience. We plan to return.“
