“Our first trip ever to the Balkan Treat Box started with a very helpful server coming up to us at where you order and handing us the menus and helping us decide what to get. It really helped us with our order. We ordered 3 of the most popular dishes as well as some hummus to start. Everything was so good really a symphony of flavors! We were checked on by the staff several times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and everyone was very nice and helpful! Highly recommend. Jim Fiala and his team hits it out of the park in every way. 3 courses paired with wine and each spot on. Last time there we brought our own wine as it was a special bottle. “I stopped here one time after getting my hair done next door. I'm gluten free and got the OG Fire without the crisp shallots or the tempura crunch and I added the tofu nuggets. OMG adding the tofu nuggets was the best decision, this sushi wrap tasted amazing! And they make it right there in front of you, so I'm glad I didn't order online for pick up bc the wait time was nothing and everything was fresh. Highly recommend!!“

“Start with the Pork Belly Cheese Fries! I highly suggest the DLT sandwich with tater tots. Be sure to save room for some macarons. A staple in Maplewood: the staff is friendly, the bar has some great offerings, and the food is delicious. I highly suggest making a second trip to try brunch - you can't go wrong with Eggs Bene-duck.“

“I finally made it and really it’s worth 100 stars , The chicken salad is probably the best salad in Stl , everything about it is perfect , chicken soo good , lettuce chopped with tons of parsley, all ingredients top notch and the dressing is excellent. When we walked in Josh was on it, made us feel we were “regulars”, like he new us personally and Stacey, the hostess that seated us, was equally as welcoming and we were seated promptly. I don’t believe we got our kind servers name, but the beautiful young lady was on it as well. The chefs/kitchen were on par as well, hubby had one of the eggs Benedict with a side of biscuit and gravy, I had the Ranchers beef salad, one of the best beef and blue cheese salads I’ve EVER had, and believe me, I’ve had a “few” 😋🤫😊 Hubs also loved the huge coffee mugs his coffee and my Kahluah/hot chocolate(yum on this damp chilly day)were served in…this where my only complaint would be, my mug was chipped along the rim 😅 All that said, it was just a fantastic way to start our Sunday. “I’ve ignored this place over the decades, assuming it was a typical dive bar. A friend assured me the food was great and I should try it. Understatement! Believe it or not I’m a hypercritical person but I could find no fault at Michael’s. During both of my visits, everything everyone ordered was cooked and seasoned beautifully. So far I can highly recommend the Greek salad (standout among the large number of Greek salads I’ve tried), the rack of lamb and the galaktoboureko - a house-made dessert consisting mainly of a fluffy custard and phyllo dough. Even the side vegetables and rice were wonderful. The beer and wine selection was good as well and I wrote down my wine to look into buying a bottle. The many servers were extremely busy and professional and our server Amy did a helluva job. Large rack of lamb with sides, entree-sized Greek salad, two beers, wine and dessert for only $80 -which for the quality of our dinner was quite a bargain. Generic name belies quality cooking and serving! Pass it on!“

Upon entry, one will be greeted by friendly and attentive staff and see a slew of patrons enjoying traditional cuisine in a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The quality of the food is fantastic and the spice and seasonings of the provided dishes are consistent, and really showcase the cuisinier here care about the culinary tastes of their dishes. During my brunch visit, I ordered the steak and eggs, which came with an array of accompaniments: eggs prepared to my liking, cheesy grits, a side of sausage gravy, and a choice of either toast or biscuits. “My family and I was in St Charles for the Metallica concert, stopped at your Restaurant for Lunch. That was one of the best pizza's we have ever had. Ingredients and Crust was on point. I know your local in Mo but please bring one to the Gulf Shores area of Alabama. I promise you would stay busy.“
