“Excellent tacos“

“Went to Barbacoa, 5500 Troost, for brunch Sunday morning, what a delightful experience. I ordered Monie’s plate. It was mouthwatering. The serving was so generous, that I took half of it home. The corn tortillas were soft and warm enough to make a taco, the beans were flavorful and not spicy, the carnitas were fall apart tender and very tasty, perfectly fried potatoes, and fluffy scrambled eggs. The salsa was very tasty and not overly spicy. The coffee was even tasty (Costco Kirkland medium roast). Unlike some breakfast restaurants, the background music was so low and mellow (helps with digestion), I could hear my friends talk. We have to go back during the week for dinner. UPDATE - I forgot one very important thing, the service was excellent. Our group was one of two in the restaurant, but shortly afterwards other start to arrive. There was only one friendly waitress, who, despite the growing crowd, was able to get back to us about more coffee and to check on us“

The menudo and pozole is best ive ever had and the chili rolo and verde are both outstanding, tastes exactly like homemade because they are. Wonderful family owned stop in a historic area of KC. oh and dont forget to treat yourself to the best chillaquiles and eggs you'll ever have. Delicious! The catering we got for our New Years feast was a huge hit as well: tamales, pork verde and menudo. EXCELLENTE!“

“🚨GUACAMOLE CHANGE! We’ve been coming to Ponaks for 30 years. The guacamole has aways been one of our favorites. Today we ordered it and immediately noticed something was different. We asked the server and he confirmed that they have changed their recipe, and it’s for the worst. They’ve added “filler” by putting pico and other ingredients into it. It’s not even close to what it was. I hope they don’t start changing their food and Margaritas!!! There is a reason people keep coming back year after year! Please dont mess with perfection Ponaks!“

“Stopped into this gem for lunch and grabbed a carryout order. I ordered inside at the counter and the woman behind the counter was helpful and kind, answered any question I had. I waited about 7 minutes for my carryout order, 3 asada tacos, add onion, with a habanero salsa. This place is fantastic. The tacos were 12/10, delicious. From staff, to seating, all the way to the food, everything was great. I will be coming back!“

“My husband and I dined here on Jan 17, 2026. Exceptional Tacos! We both got the fish and cheeseburger tacos. Both were yummy and fresh. Our favorite was the cheeseburger.

“Tatema is a little hole in the wall restaurant, but let me tell you, their food is incredible! I am generally a person who doesn't like mexican food (at least the american version of it), however when I got tacos here for the first time, they were truly life changing. I have yet to branch out to any other food item, but their tacos alone are absolutely delicious! I would highly highly recommend you go there! I have introduced a handful of my family members to Tatema and they instantly loved it! The staff is also very friendly and it's a great place!“

“I love their menudo!!! If you want a delicious and flavorful menudo buy them from this place. It doesn't have that stinky smell when you eat it. Some places don't know how to clean and cook it well. I also got lime ice cream and it's so flavorful!!! The only thing that a lot of people didn't like is that there are big flies all over. I know it's everywhere but maybe they can do something about it. But other than that everything is awesome. I'm going back to this place again“

“Since Ismael took over in the Summer of 2025, everything has leveled up and is so good! From drinks, to salsas, to the food (especially dishes like his ribeye steak) are so well down and delicious! “I have been a few times in the past few months. The hosts and hostesses are consistently warm and accommodating. Our servers have been hit or miss. Either exceptional or average. (I would not let this deter you). The fajitas (steak) are amazing; easily two portions. The food is worth the price. The margaritas are always consistent. Definitely make a reservation.“
