“On Saturday, February 14th, I went downtown for a solo dinner at Huli Sue’s and quickly realized I had completely forgotten Billy Strings was in town for the weekend. Between Valentine’s Day and a sold-out show within walking distance, downtown was absolute chaos. Walking into Huli Sue’s, though, felt like stepping into a well-oiled machine. The hostess (I truly wish I had gotten her name) greeted everyone calmly and kept the flow of guests organized and welcoming. They were operating on a reservation system for the evening honestly genius given the circumstances. Even as a party of one, the wait was about an hour and a half, which I completely understood. Knowing I was craving their food, she suggested takeout. She even let me sit at the table where they roll silverware so I could look over the menu and wait for my roommate to text their order and never once made me feel rushed. While I waited, I watched her run the entrance like an absolute goddess. She was pleasant, efficient, and incredibly organized. Every table being notified was already set, down to water poured and ready. When guests arrived, she greeted them with genuine enthusiasm and walked them to their tables like they were honored guests. Downtown was a madhouse. People kept walking in without reservations, and she calmly explained the wait. When guests were understandably discouraged, she let them know they were accepting reservations for the 15th and I honestly didn’t hear a single person turn her down. She made everyone feel welcome. Despite the cold and the madness outside, the restaurant remained calm and peaceful inside. Even at full capacity, the volume stayed comfortable. The kitchen ran like an orchestra no yelling, no chaos, no stressed staff just teamwork and smiles. I wanted to take a moment to praise Huli Sue’s, their staff, and their phenomenal hostess. They handled what could have been an overwhelming night with grace and efficiency. They already had my business —but after that experience, I’ll make it a point to go even more often.“

“If visiting in winter, be aware that there are only like 8 indoor seats so you either hope to get lucky or get takeout. The arepa itself (not even talking about the toppings) is outstanding. The portion is generous so one order of arepa is enough for a meal (for me at least). Tasty nonalcoholic drink options.“

The shop was spotless and the food quickly was outstanding. I don't know where they found fresh high quality avacodos , strawberries, and blueberries, but they did! “I first learned about Bad Manners Coffee from their Instagram page and general social media presence. When I saw the sign as I drove through WAVL I was so excited I had to drop in to finally check it out. I tried a classic iced latte with house-made strawberry syrup added and a jalapeño bagel. The latte was the perfect amount of sweet without being cloying and the bagel was warm, buttery, flaky, and had the absolute barest hint of spice. I love spice so would have enjoyed a little more but it’s mild enough that you could give it to a slightly adventurous child and they would excitedly tell you “I ate something spicy” and you could smile knowingly.
I sat out on their small one-table patio to eat my breakfast and drink my coffee. I’m happy they have it as an option but I will say it felt slightly precarious as the deck slopes downward and there is a gap between the concrete slab at the door and the wood of the patio flooring. Elderly and disabled folks should avoid this area due to the uneven footing and safety concerns but the interior is accessible and has tables.
They put up billowing and gauzy curtains and artificial plant wall coverings over lattice work to evoke a sense of privacy between the surrounding businesses and the perpetual construction happening behind the building.
The music that played seemed to be a calm and ambient mixture of Phoebe Bridgers, Mitski, and other female singer-songwriters of similar genres. The aesthetics of the interior are bright and artsy with pink walls and leafy green plant life and create a comfortably welcoming atmosphere.
Bad Manners Coffee also seems to partner with some local artists as there were cards/mini-prints and stickers available for sale with individual payment options via Venmo available. We love a local business that supports local artists!

The two baristas I encountered were warm, professional, kind, and helpful. They gave recommendations on drinks and food to myself and all following customers without being pushy or sounding like they were performing from a script. Both ladies also had exceptionally lovely smiles and hairstyles!!

I had a wonderful visit and I will be back time and again now that I know this little corner of peace exists.“

“Really sweet spot, I got their pour over coffee and they had a menu just for pour over! I've never seen that and although it was only two coffees, I appreciated the tasting notes for each. The chocolate croissant was also very good. This place has such a cool vibe and the espresso machine was super slick, you won't even realize it's an espresso machine . The brewery was easy to get to, had lots of parking & there was a small local band playing when I arrived. Sky was my very friendly bartender. I asked for a beer suggestion than was on the lighter side. He suggested the Cowboy Poet. He was spot on. I also ordered food from the pizza place. Was really delicious. The Greek platter was amazing as well. I got the combination to try both the lamb & chicken. The chicken tasted like souvlaki & was good, but I favored the lamb. I typically would order an old fashioned, but they did not have large blocks of ice. Given what Helene’s impact on western NC, I was happy to see this restaurant thriving & folks in good spirit. “We passed by Wagbar on our way to our Airbnb and just knew we had to visit. So many happy dogs playing, my dog was anxious to join everytime we passed by. I love that they take being up to date on vaccines serious. We were greeted by what I called the "Welcome committee" consisting of 3 huge golden retrievers. Got inside, ordered a few drinks and set Stash free. He was right away accepted into the group of dogs playing and shown around. Not only were all the dogs friendly and very social, but their owners were as well. Great conversations were had. Absolutely recommend this place. The employee working that day(can't remember her name) was amazing with the dogs. She took notice anytime the dogs were "bored". She would come out and entice them to play around. Hilarious seeing the regulars reaction to her approach because they KNEW what was up haha! Can't wait to visit again when we are in town.“

“This is my favorite brewery in Asheville. We fell in love with this brewery their first time we visited. Beers are creative and dark beers so delicious. And the food is to die for. Last evening Steak Po-Boy is simply the best we have ever had! Absolutely gourmet food in this brewery. We consider this as our dinner place and not just a brewery. This is THE must visit brewery for all our visitors. The venue is casual with quirky spots and many different hangout areas. We have huddled with friends in the winter months under shelter, enjoy music in the lower zone, hang out in the rooftop areas or just in the many tables around. We like the sister Forestry Camp too.“

“Today was a very special experience. I called and spoke with Casey and after our brief call and her positive tone and eagerness to help, it was clear that I could get out of the house, not isolate, and come and work with her in person. My fur-baby of over 15 years crossed the rainbow bridge this morning. I was seeking a special plant to deliver to the caregivers at a local daycare that have helped me so much with him these last several weeks to say thank you and have some additional closure and share kindness in the midst of one of the hardest days that I could imagine, although I knew that this time was soon to come. Casey welcomed me into her shop and supported me with much empathy, kindness, and grace to help shop for the caregivers, but also a beautiful orchid for myself and some candles to light in his memory over this upcoming long weekend where I’ll be inside. I was able to get a new journal just to write this weekend about memories of him. Casey surprised me with something unexpected as well to express the condolences of Flora. Keep in mind that I had never been to Flora before, I am new to Asheville, and sometimes the most genuine kindness can come from people and places that you may least expect it. I do have another dog that is a rescue and I would like to know if the shop is dog-friendly. I would love to come there on the weekends sometime and have a coffee and feel held and know that I belong in a place of such pawsitivity and acceptance. Be like Casey! Be Kind! The world needs more kindness and compassion now than ever before. I will be a routine customer and I highly recommend that you all visit this business when possible. You will not regret it!
