““Easily within the top 3 pizzas I’ve ever had,” my wife’s thoughts after last night’s meal from Abbiocco. This spot in little ol’ Old Fort is serving up such unique and delicious flavors, I found it impossible not to overindulge. It's the kind of taste adventure you'd expect from a high-end artisan joint in Asheville, but nope, it's right here in our own backyard. Every dish is a delightful surprise, crafted with high-quality ingredients that dance on your palate. Seriously, who knew such culinary brilliance could come out of a trailer – and not just any trailer, but one rocking a fancy tiled custom pizza oven! It outshines most traditional pizzerias with ease. We paired our meal (basically one of everything on the menu) with some choice brews from Whaley (love the Chanterelle Golden Strong Ale, 9.8% abv) for a cozy family movie night at home. Pro tip from the owner and chef, Glenn: next time, we can opt for half-baked pizzas to finish cooking fresh at home—we’ll just note it in the online order memo. Perfect for takeout, which we do often. It's pretty amazing to find such flavors in the most unexpected of places. Abbiocco is a real hidden gem in Old Fort – can't wait for our next visit. “I love the Davis Country Store & Cafe and the community their presence creates. I enjoy their Saturday markets for art, plants, and animals. I frequent the store for eggs, elderberry syrup, honeys, teas, candles, body products and pet products, all of which are wonderful and locally sourced or made in house. And I have been loving the addition of the cafe that offers coffee from Ingenious (amazing local roaster), pastries, ice cream and more to come. The Davis Country Store & Cafe is exactly what Old Fort needed and I’m so glad to see the Davis family share their wonderfully curated and created products with the town.”

“We came here for the first time while we stayed at a local treehouse getaway! The food was fantastic! We both got cheese burgers and some pretzels. All was delicious and we got to sit outside overlooking the river. The atmosphere was amazing and the staff were all very hospitable. The first friendly face we encountered was Alisha! We had no idea where to go to order or where to go. Alisha was a sweetheart to us and helped us order and answered all our first timer questions. She was a joy as was our experience to Hillman Beer. Also I’d like to add you don’t have to enjoy alcoholic drinks to enjoy this place. We knocked back a few cokes and took in the scenery.”

The atmosphere was clean and well-maintained, with a steady flow of customers, yet service was fast. The menu had the usual variety, and we went for some classic options—burgers, fries, and drinks.

The food came out hot, the fries were crispy, and the burgers had that signature McDonald’s taste. While it’s not gourmet dining, it’s great for a fast, familiar bite. The staff were polite and got the order right without any issues. Overall, it was a reliable experience, perfect for a no-fuss meal on the go.

“I highly recommend Mount Mitchell Cafe & Eatery! We arrived a few mins before opening, to miss the rush, & were promptly greeted & allowed to place our order. Food & staff were excellent! “July 2024. Marjie and I came into town for a drink. All the usual spots were packed. When we came across The Station there was live music, room at the bar, variety of beers and other , and cooling cross breeze. Marjie enjoyed the White Squirrel drink in honor of Z & L’s neighborhood mascot. Then we finished the evening driving around looking for a place to watch fireworks. There were thousands of people filling every parking lot lot like it was football tailgating night. Once it was dark, and 9:30, and still hot, but no fireworks - we just headed back to Montreat and watched them on TV with Lizzie and Grandparents.”

“My Father's Pizza absolutely sets the stage for quality, scenery, and service. It's reasonably priced, has plenty of space inside and out, and the large build your own pizza absolutely rocks. Coming from someone who loves pizza, there's nothing to frown upon with the way they make it here.”

“Large variety of sandwiches as well as sides. Great food and great service. The outside seating also allows you to enjoy the peaceful relaxed atmosphere of downtown Black Mountain.

Had the grilled cheese and maple bacon sandwich and half a chicken salad sandwich and bowl of corn chowder. Both very good.

Parking: Limited parking at the restaurant but there is a free city lot less than a block away.”

“We just passed this little place on the way back from a day spent on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We pulled in and saw it was cash only, so we went down the road a little to get cash at the Dollar General. We both got milkshakes, I was very impressed to see all the no sugar added options. Being a diabetic, I normally don’t have a lot of choices at places. The milkshakes were pretty good and the prices were reasonable. Definitely would stop here again when I’m in the area!”
