I am writing this review after visiting the paper canoe for the 3rd time. I have ordered different menu items, while my partner has only ordered the scallops as “they have the best scallops I’ve ever had in my life”. She has gone so far as to stop ordering scallops elsewhere as The Paper Canoe has ruined all other scallops for her, as they are just so good.The paper canoe is one of the, if not the best restaurant we have dined at. The atmosphere is top tier, and if you book your reservations the right time, you’ll be able to watch the sun set while you dine.The beauty of nature, mixed with the pure culinary skill of the chef, and the professionalism of the staff make this so much more than a restaurant, it’s an experience.I can not recommend The Paper Canoe enough. 15/10And attached are photos of the scallop entree, the cast iron shrimp and grits, and the sweet and sour lemonade w/ edible straw”

“BEST PORK CHOP EVER. So what if I order a pork chop at ever restaurant that boasts one. I expect pork perfection - and The Blue Point achieved it. Pork excellence! This chop was beyond good. It had this crust with a bacon essence that just made me laugh it was so good. And the bread pudding had the perfect savoriness. Oh my word! It’s a must try! My hubs got the crab cakes - also VERY GOOD. But the night belonged to Porky-God rest his soul. He was VERY good.”

“My family and I haven’t been to OBX in about 10 years. We stayed in Corolla for a week, and found Driftwood Coffee Co within the first day of arriving. Safe to say that all 10-12 of us went 3-4 times EACH during our week stay ? Coffee is delicious. Very friendly service. Owner is extremely kind, and very talented! She displays her paintings around the shop as well as her jewelry. Come to find out, the shop has only been open since April. I have a feeling they will continue to do very well during the summer months. We will be back!”

“This place is out of this world! First‐ our server, Luke, was top notch. He was kind, helpful, and friendly. We ordered the the Chef special which is a sampling of a majority of their their menu. 7ish items. I am from the mountains and not a big seafood fan but we scarfed everything in front of us. All the food was seasoned to perfection. Lastly, the beignets as dessert were delicious! As a vacationer, I would come back to OBX just for this restaurant.”

“The bang bang shrimp were cooked & seasoned perfectly. We also had the crab cake sandwich & the pork bbq sandwich. They have a bbq sauce or the most popular vinegar based sauce. It was so good because bought a thing of their award winning vinegar sauce. The staff were so polite & the food came out fast & hot... this is our new favorite secret to eat..... they do breakfast, lunch, & dinner. It's very casual w/ a full bar . The bar seats around 12-15 people..”

“Although we have been coming to Duck for a number of years this was our first time in Corolla, and our first visit to Metropolis. Everything was delicious! My wife and I ordered 4 plates to share (yes, small servings but it calls itself a Tapas Bar so that was expected by us). King Trumpet Mushroom Bisque with Crab was delicious...thick, creamy with a mix of great flavors. Mixed Grill had shrimp and tune with a great cumin and garlic yogurt sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly with a very light blue cheese cream sauce. And finally a flight of chocolate candies with very interesting flavors...everything from dark chocolate with a caramel flavor to chocolate infused with a beaujolais flavor. Overall a fun experience...will definitely be back.”

“Customer service, atmosphere, price, and food was GREAT! Cook came out to check on our food, even with 5pm Friday night dinner rush! Bonnie & Clyde pizza was huge, and it was only a large. 3-year-old loved the Wiseguys Fries with cheese. Will definitely be back!”

“We went just looking for a Sunday afternoon excursion from the beach. Were very pleasantly surprised. All the wines we tasted (dry whites and reds) were awesome! The gentlemen who was working there was very cordial and informative. He even took us in the back to see the wine barrels and explained some about the wine-making process. We bought several bottles to go, and will definitely be back for more.”

“This place is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to. The food is amazing the staff is so nice. This is definitely not a place you judge at it’s look don’t get me wrong it’s super clean just not fancy but I’m not paying for atmosphere I want great food kind staff and a good price and this place exceeds that. I live about 2 hours from here and would be willing to drive that for dinner here. Please do yourself a favor and give this play a shot you will not regret it.Kid-friendliness: They made ACP kid meals for my kids tho they did not show them on the menu.”

“Must try! Delicious food! We had the chopped cheese sub, kids hot dog and fries, Martinsville hot dog, and PK's checkered flag fries! Slaw was unique and really good! Awesome display of NASCAR memorabilia too. Our daughter had a really awesome experience. She got the classic car add on to the kids meal, which she really enjoyed. The owner also let her pick a bracelet and gave her a bag of popcorn to go! We will be back on our next trip to the beach ?”

“Great hidden spot along the main road toward OBX! (Turn at the Hardee's/Royal Farms and keep on goin' to the end of the road.) It's definitely a local divey hideaway, with tons of cool and eclectic rural backwoods decor. GREAT FOOD. The boom boom shrimp sauce was really good, and the mushrooms had an unusual-looking, yet fantastic, coating and fry! Huge portion of those huge shrooms, as the photo shows. The 1 lb. portion of Steamed Shrimp was also huge! I guess I didn't realize how large the shrimp would be, and there are 15-20 in that bucket. They DO go very heavy on the Old Bay! I turned over the top shrimp so it wouldn't be so visible in the photo. Our awesome server Karen told us it would be that way, and next time I'll ask for light-to-no seasoning, because it really was very heavy (and therefore, salty). But still excellent! I never leave seafood on the plate, but there was just too much for me to finish. Google before you visit, because I understand the hours can vary. But worth the trip if you're looking for downhome rural waterside! Hubby and stepson have already been back several times on their Harleys, both for lunch and dinner. They love the hometown "Cheers" feel of the bar.”

“In the area, it's hard to find places that stay open past 4 or 5 during off season. If you're on the hunt for coffee, you're pretty much out of luck if it's not morning time. You can get Starbucks up in Corolla until 4pm in the Harris Teeter, but other than that, you'll have to drive about a half hour. That is, unless you go to Sweet T's. We decided to give it a try and were very glad we did. The caramel Macchiato was different than Starbucks, but very good. I liked my Chai tea latte I usually like it strong, but this one was pretty mild, and actually hit the spot for an evening beverage. The atmosphere was very nice, and the lady behind the counter was very attentive and polite.”

So good!My 10yo thinks the banana strawberry smoothie isn’t sweet enough but I’m not upset about it. That tells me the ingredients are natural and I need to curtail her candy intake on the heels of Easter.Vegetarian options: Meat can be omitted and quesadilla and salads stand good on their own. Extra veggies can be added to everything my family looked at for an upcharge.”
