“The Mercury Café is a lovely vegetarian café/restaurant in the charming historic town of New Castle, with plenty of vegan options. We ordered the vegan Pulled-Oat “Pork” Sandwich, which was excellent. The cocktails were great too. Updated from previous review on 2025-11-29“

“First time ordering from here tonight and we WILL BE BACK… like a lot. We live in pike creek and will make the drive. We got the red beans and rice, gumbo and tomato soup and we need to try the rest of the menu! My husband and I just got back from New Orleans and my husband was sad because he loved the food so I googled and found this place! The gumbo was literally better than we had down there 😍 SO GOOD. And everyone working when I picked up (one was the owners daughter) were so passionate about how they make everything from scratch and kept giving me samples of everything and telling me their story. It’s a WONDERFUL locally owned place that should be protected at all costs. Cannot recommend enough!“

“I Was in town for a Private Event, it was held at Keem's, Christian was manager that evening. My husband and I had a wonderful time, EVERYTHING was amazing, we have been talking about the food all the way back to Virginia! Thank you to the Entire Staff for all your efforts! “We were in Wilmington for my son’s lacrosse event and stopped at Scalessa’s, what a find! Aaron gave us amazing service and made us feel right at home. The chopped antipasti salad was fresh and flavorful, my son loved his chicken parm, and Grandma’s Sunday Gravy was next level, true home-style Italian cooking. We’ll definitely be back!“

“Duck leg and beignets were excellent. Flavor and textures were amazing. Strip steak was perfectly cooked. Radiatori was flavorful and brisket was so tender and perfectly executed. Beautiful experience start to finish. I'm from Virginia and was in town for a show. Would definitely try to find another reason to come back to DE just to dine here. Stellar service at the bar.“

“We went for the Tuesday night 2 for $60. The crabcake was the best around and the server (Armin) is very knowledgeable of the menu. A 3 course meal for 2 for $60 is about the best deal anyone can ask for. We will be spending Tuesday here while it lasts.“

“I wanted to eat at a local diner that has a counter. I found this place by using Google maps and searched for diner near me. Very charming local restaurant. For the first time I had Scrapple. Great service and atmosphere. I chatted with the locals and explained my trip to Wilmington. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. I recommend giving them a try.“

“We love this place. This is THAT diner. Great food, friendly staff, and small town feel. You will feel like a regular the minute you walk in. Breakfast all day, lunch and dinner specials daily, and special orders are no problem. Just go. This will become the diner that you will compare all others to. Really. “Hands down the best wings and pizza we’ve had in a while!
We live about 15 minutes away.. and we all know there’s a pizza place on every corner. So we could’ve gone closer. But this was so worth the drive. We grabbed garlic parm wings, BBQ wings, extra cheese pizza, and broccoli bites last night and everything hit the spot. The wings were full of flavor, w the perfect amount of sauce & cooked to perfection.. The pizza was super cheesy, and those broccoli bites were sooo good and crispy.
The guy at the counter was really friendly, which made the experience even better. And honestly, for the amount of food and how good it all was, the prices were great. We’ll definitely be making the trip again!“

“This is a hard one. Great staff but when it comes to some type of consistency with the food , its all over the place. If ya tell the owner anything he just smiles an give a thumbs up , wtf fix it. Do you even have a kitchen manager , i doubt it. Ive gave up on dinners here cause its never the same from day to day. It's all different. Went the other day with company and we ordered the meatloaf , wtf , who's responsible this , oly , i doubt it. So now i just stick with a couple of things they cant mess up , chipped beef witch is fantastic. Virginia baked ham , came out as a slice of imported ham. French fries rubbery. Meatloaf 1st cut was into grissle , in a meatloaf , go to Cracker Barrel down the street if you want meatloaf. Temps on the sides are way off. Breakfast jelly n butter cant be any cheaper. Ya have to do better and don't smile n give me a thumbs up. Again just love the staff there. Fix it.“
