“I ordered the Crazy Salmon Roll and Volcano Roll, and I must say, they were both exceptional in terms of taste and quality.
The rolls were incredibly fresh and had a delightful flavour. I was impressed by the generous amount of seafood filling in each roll. Additionally, the sizes of the Shushi rolls were just right, providing a satisfying portion.“

“Great food that is as appetizing as the pictures with large portions. The Bento box is definitely the best item to get as it serves as a comprehensive meal with every aspect of flavor and texture:The crispy, crunchy spring rolls and dumplings, the savory main dish, and the sweet salad all complement each other excellently“

“Great omakase for $70! The last course which was the banana unagi dessert was surprisingly a pleasant pairing. But the course felt too fast-paced (which makes sense for NYC) - I wish I had more time to fully appreciate the experience of each bite.“

“Excellent, kinda under the radar spot. Found this by personal recommendation, not by any ABSOLUTE BEST EVER or TOP 25 PLACES TO LINE UP ALL NIGHT AT sort of list. Though they have earned some well deserved recognition I since learned.
Great food and perfect sake recommendation. Ginger dressing house salad was fresh and lively. XO grits were as rich and complex of a comfort food as you could hope for. Trout, bluefin, and wagyu nigiri all well prepared, high quality meats with delicate seasoning.“

As soon as you walk in you are greeted quickly, kindly and you feel immediately welcomed into this gem of a restaurant. Every single dish is delicious, flavorful, fresh, and the chefs are stellar. “Finally found an amazing lunch spot for sushi! They have a lunch omakase (didn’t do the deluxe as I do not care for salmon roe) and it was unbelievably good for the price! It was only 38 dollars with gratuity included. Unreal. The fish was incredible, I still dream about the fluke and the Spanish mackerel. The staff was attentive and informative about the sushi you’re eating, and everything moved in a timely manner. I found my new favorite lunch spot!
Dietary restrictions: They do ask if you’re allergic to anything before you start the experience!“

The courses came out quickly and the meal flowed well. I loved the uni, ikura, caviar bowl and the O toro that was torched was amazing!!!! If you’re looking for an authentic omakase experience with good ambiance , head here!“

“I’m late in posting my review. I visited Thirteen Water on May 18, 2024 and it easily became my favorite omakase experience considering the cost, quality, and creativity. Every piece honestly made me want to dance it was so good! If I was a local, I’d visit them regularly. They really set my expectations high for all omakases. Turns out I have a hobby; an expensive hobby. Omakase. But with the base price of $75, it simply means I can spend more on add-ons ?. I can’t wait to revisit!“

“I don’t usually write reviews but for this place I had to. I came here for lunch by chance after deciding over another omakase place and it was the best decision ever. The chef I had was very nice and personable, along with all of the staff. There wasn’t a course here that I didn’t like and a couple of them had such unique and delicious ingredient combinations. And for $89 is a steal! No complaints whatsoever. Will definitely come back when in NYC again and recommend to everyone!“

“$195 for 18 pieces. Definitely worth it for what I would consider the best omakase in NYC. The pieces were thick, I was full by the end, everything was higher quality and fresher than anywhere else I’ve been, and there were some pieces that were done slightly differently than other omakases, which kept things new but tasty without being too extra. Some examples include directly searing the black perch with hot coal, or serving the final tamago piece as a roll with rice and marinated gourd, which I’ve only had served like this when I was in Japan. They also paid attention to the temperature and composition of the rice to include 5- versus 7-year aged vinegar based on how strong the flavor of the fish was. Service was exceptional. Our chef, D, was professional and such a pleasure. The country music was a bit odd but otherwise everything else was more than worth the cost, which would normally get you smaller pieces and lower quality in Manhattan.“

“My favorite sushi spot in NYC. Chef Don is a real artist that makes beautifully delicious sushi. The small intimate space is impeccably appointed yet understated in its beauty. This feels like a Sushi speakeasy. The staff is super friendly and attentive. Chef Don’s UES location is also equally impressive. Treat yourself to NYC’s best sushi experience!“

“Aesthetically the place is unassuming, just based on how it looks from the outside I might not have chosen it but because of the good reviews we went and it was so worth it. The shoyu ramen was one of the best I’ve had and the tempura shrimp appetizer was also delicious. Our server was lovely. Would definitely go again.“

“My husband and I get takeout from here A LOT. The quality and freshness is top notch even after it gets delivered. Each nigiri piece is quite simple with a small pinch of shiso, yuzu, or truffle toppings that’s matched perfectly with the fish flavor profile. They also offer a compote-like bowl featuring uni, caviar, shrimp, and tuna, delivering an extraordinary explosion of flavors in every bite“

“Great food, even better staff. So attentive and kind, we felt right at home.
Our server was so attentive that when my girlfriend dropped her chopsticks, he grabbed a new one from the nearest empty table and handed it to her within 15 seconds. Wonderful staff!!
We hope they get omakase back soon in the near future!“

“It’s a very nice omakase experience for us. We were greeted and sit in front of the chef’s table. We all sit in pairs (4 pairs) and we enjoy a really nice food. The fish is very fresh and the chef cuts it in front of us. They also recommend some nice sake. And one of the couples is celebrating their birthday and bought a really nice sake for everyone in the room.
The uni served in a crakers was so good. The fish are spectacular and they also make the wasabi fresh and tasty. I also tried the snail, which I never tried and a bit squimish, but I tried it anyway and turns out really delicious.
Though there’s a little thing that I don’t fancy, there’s a female waiter and most of the time only talk and explain the food to my bf or talk next to my bf. But when other server come, they always come in between us and explain to both of us. It’s weird but I never experienced this in any fancy place, as they always explain the food to both people.
Also, (I’m sorry chef) but he talks really quiet. I couldn’t really hear when he explains.
Other than the inconvenience, the place is great and would say that it is one of our favorite omakase places we visited.“

“My favorite omakase place in the city! I feel so lucky that Takeda is in our neighborhood. The high quality dishes are always presented beautifully, and each time we go, we'd be surprised by some special offerings that are so delicious but that we have never tried before (e.g., tiny white shrimp). Chef Takeda and his staff are always friendly, professional, and very informative with each dish that they serve; they'll share the specific prefecture from which the fish is from, and other information such as the season for the fish, and whether they aged it and for how long etc. The environment is calming and you don't hear any outside noise, so we could focus entirely on the culinary experience, and I love that! It is an intimate setting and I thoroughly enjoy watching Chef Takeda craft each dish with meticulous precision. It's definitely a treat to come here!“

“Simply superb. The fish and shellfish are pristine. The chefs are skilled and approachable. The servers are helpful and gracious. While not “inexpensive,” I believe it’s a value for what is delivered. I’ve been three times—just last night for the first time, I’m sorry to say, since COVID—and each time was exquisite. Beyond highly recommended. A treasure.“

“From start to finish, Katsuya overdelivered in every category. We were seated promptly upon arrival in their beautiful and thoughtfully curated space that offered a sexy yet inviting ambiance. Ordered the lychee martini (because, duh!) in addition to their lemon salmon roll and spicy tuna crispy rice (double duh). Management and service was very considerate of my dietary restrictions and ensured that nothing was left to question. Everything we tried was bursting with flavor while simultaneously celebrating the quality of their fish. Couldn't recommend enough. Come for a girls' night out, date night, or even family night ...Katsuya's got you covered ticking all the boxes and more.“

“Excellent Omakase, possibly the best "bang for the buck" in NYC for the genre.
Many favorites, but the crescendo of 3 tuna pieces that ends with o toro with caviar and truffles, ikura with lime zest, and the unagi were all note-worthy.
Simply fantastic!“

“The lunch was wonderful. They never disappoint but this time the Sushi and sashimi was awesome. I had one of the lunch specials which I usually don't finish because it's too much food but this time the sushi and sashimi was so good I ate all of it. The sake suggestion was perfect. Definitely a place to keep returning to.“

“I am currently standing outside the location. The owner who is the friendliest and most kind hearted person I have ever met is the cause of me doing directly to my phone and writing this review. The food is delicious and fresh. From the smallest detail as even the ingredients she has she is detailed for. The boba tea is perfect. Not too sweet and the bobas freshly cooked. My mochi ice cream might be melting but for a good cause. Before I left with my mochi she was as so much caring for my ice cream melting in the weather and asked if it was for here to go since it might melt. I will be going back and hope people show this business the love it deserves.“

“A friend of mine and I went to this restaurant for dinner. When we arrived we paid to park in a lot nearby. We walked in, and the restaurant looked fairly new. We were served by Steven and he was very nice. We started with cocktails and I had the old fashioned and it was good! I then had the red wine which I liked. My friend had the strawberry Basil Mule, and she enjoyed it. Now we had appetizers, and I had the soft shell crabs and my friend had the dumplings, and the food was good. We lastly had Temaki Set: California, Salmon, Lobster, and they were good. For dinner, my friend had the short rib, and I had the sweet and spicy chicken. We both really enjoyed our dishes. The chicken was marinated really well. We definitely had a good experience!“

“Yuki was the perfect guide for what was a spiritual sushi experience if I’m being honest. Every piece of food that was served was paired with the most complimentary sake. Each pairing and bite was not only about the flavor, but also the information about the what, how, and why of each experience. I’m still processing what happened. If you go here, be prepared for the most incredible food experience of your life. 20/10 cannot recommend this place enough. They go completely above and beyond the ensure top tier customer experience.“

“This high-quality takeout omakase is a standout choice for sushi aficionados. The buttery tuna melts in your mouth, delivering rich, savory flavors. The o-toro and chu-toro are particularly amazing, with their luxurious textures and deep, satisfying taste. The sea urchin is equally exquisite, with a fresh, creamy texture that exemplifies top-tier seafood. Each piece is expertly crafted, ensuring a gourmet dining experience right at home. “The omakase here is one of the most value for money I've been to! For just 90 before tax and tip, you get 14 courses including foie gras, a5 wagyu, 2 uni pieces, sweet shrimp, otoro, caviar, truffle - basically every high-tier ingredient usually included in omakase, together with foundational ones (salmon, tuna, eel, scallop, etc.). The Hokkaido uni was very fresh, king salmon was amazing, and there was a crunchy fish I really loved as well. Also included a yuzu cheesecake as dessert, and my friend had a special chocolate/tiramisu cake since it was her birthday.“
