“Can I please give it 6 stars? I recently went there with a group of five family members while visiting New Jersey and we had a truly extraordinary night! As an investor in restaurants I'm very critical when visiting any restaurant and not often impressed even with well known critically acclaimed restaurants. It's very rare when a place has truly incredible food with every appetizer and entree as well as first class VIP vibes for service. You could literally taste the passion and care put into every plate with beautifully prepared flavorful abundant meals. In fact, it was the first time in almost a decade I brought home leftovers as the meal was delicious and easily sufficient for two people. Our entire table raved about their meals and the attentive but not obtrusive service was always there to refill our wine and assist without any of us having to look up for service. The food alone would have made for a great night but what truly made it memorable besides the great waitstaff was the manager, Eli. When was the last time a manager, GM or owner greated you at your table to share a polite, interesting and passionate conversation about the food and why they love sharing this experience with their valued customers? He made our entire table feel like VIPs and made perfect recommendations for wine and dessert. It felt more like we were in someone's home as we were there for close to 3-1/2 hours talking, eating, drinking and laughing. The ambiance is warm and unpretentious and the memories of a great experience will certainly bring us back again.“

“Walked in without a reservation and were quickly seated despite the restaurant being very busy. Staff were super friendly and kind. Food was AMAZING. Like absolutely knocked it out of the park. The bread was warm and soft and delicious, serviced with a sun-dried tomato compound butter. The fried calamari was excellent, the lemon sauce thing amazing and the tomato thing also amazing. The winter salad was delicious. We got the caramelized onion cacio y Pepe, the shrimp bolo, and the truffle gnocchi. All were outstanding. The gnocchi were light as air and the sauce was divine. For dessert, the chocolate tort, carrot cake, and tiramisu were all decadent and perfect. We were truly impressed with how absolutely delicious everything was. Will definitely be back!“

I told them it was a birthday and they did a great job recognizing her. I guess next time I'll specifically request a table in the dinning room. “My wife and I have been patrons and huge fans of Chez Catherine for nearly 30 years. Last Friday, we happily celebrated our 39th anniversary there with another very fine lunch. It's always a pleasure to be greeted like old friends by owner Stephane Bocket and seated at what we think is the best table in the tastefully decorated, elegant restaurant. We both chose the prix fixe menu. For starters, my wife had the always terrific moules and I a lovely mixed salad. We both chose beef bourguignons for our main course and asked Stephane to suggest wine from the by-the-glass list. His selections of a chablis for my wife and pinot noir for me worked perfectly with the outstanding bourguignons. We finished by sharing a delicious Baba au Rhum, prepared by Stephane at tableside. Dining at Chez Catherine is always a special event to us. Everything about it is first class. If you are unfamiliar with Chez Catherine, it has been one of New Jersey's Top 5 restaurants for nearly 40 years. We recommend it highly and urge lovers of fine dining to not wait but reserve a table NOW. We're sure you'll find it to be as special as we do.“

“Had dinner here on a Friday well before closing. Upon arrival we noticed the restaurant was not terribly busy which was a plus figuring service would be faster boy were we wrong.

The server took our order and did not return once, a different server brought out our food. We have to flag a person down to get the check and observed our served just sitting at the bar or smoking, we waited for about half an hour. It really felt like we were bothering our server.

The food was wonderful though. I would give it one more chance.“

The choice to play heavy rock at a volume level that made it hard to hear a conversation was incongruous with my expectation of an elegant night out. It was the regretful focus of our evening.“

“This is the first 5 Star restaurant we have found in NJ since moving in 1991 from Manhatten. Four of us went this past sunday evening. Everything was 5 star,including food; Niavh's (Irish name pronounced as Nieve) service; and the personable manager, Dave. Gorgeous wood and glass. Great Ambience. Easy to park. Could not be happier!“

“If you’re looking for old school Italian, this is a great spot. They made it easy to schedule a work dinner for 9 people, and the service was quick and accurate. The Caesar salad was extremely tasty, as was my pasta dish, albeit a tad salty. The front bar area is also cozy and casual, so it’s a great place for an after work cocktail.

“Food was decent and we had great table service from the bartender that was there when we were in for lunch between 11:30 and 1 PM on a Tuesday . The negative is the 4% credit card surcharge. Firstly, I don’t like that surcharge and secondly, I have not seen establishments charge 4% so that seemed excessive.“
