“First off, I was met with by a staff member in a cowboy hat (LOVE!) The booth was so soft and comfy and the table stands are ornate. I had the short rib and the meat was fall off the bone delicious! It was so tender and the sides were so plentiful and delicious. Each side had something a little different to pair well with the meat; sweet, salty, savory! “Small place ran by a lovely couple with all the signature classic Romanian dishes! This place is a complete hidden gem! The eggplant salad starter is just like my grandmother and mother make, the meats are excellent - portion sizes are huge and everything tastes like a solid Romanian place on my visits to Romania. There is one thing I don’t like about this place their parking if for whatever reason you do not have or missed or can not used your phone to pay for the parking instead of a$6 parking space you’ll get a ticket from this private company the owner of this parking lot and they send you a $104 fee insanely high !! Taking advantage of the people and technically 3 times the fee of a larking ticket you’ll get from the Montclair police dept. Robbery for sure and taking advantage of the state to charge high fees. Be aware of people of the scam in this parking spot ..“

“I just wanted to clarify myself to the worker in that restaurant especially the one in the front. We went at the restaurant today around 2pm. We went inside the restaurant and did not talk right away to let them know we were 2 customers, instead I stopped for a second and checked if we went to the right door. The worker in the front thought that we went in there to look for a guy and be with guy and do something. I just wanted to let that worker in the front know that we went there to eat and not to look for a guy. When we finished eating, that worker in the front got replaced with a young guy. I just don’t want the worker in there to think that we went there to look for a guy. We love to go to the church. Now a days, it is very important to do the right thing. We have a song in the church “choose the right.” Don’t judge the people by just physical appearance.
But other than that, the food was delicious. I highly recommend the restaurant.“

“I’ve been ordering from The Pit for years the staff is always friendly, and the food is consistently fresh and flavorful. No complaints there at all.

That said, I wanted to give a heads-up for anyone ordering the beef ribs half combo. I recently ordered the same half beef rib(S) and chicken combo I’ve gotten in the past. Typically, when I order the half beef rib(s), I receive 2–3 beef chuck ribs. This time, however, I only received one rib — which was surprising, considering the plural wording and my prior experiences.

I called and spoke with Jeff, who was respectful and upfront. He mentioned that the combo only includes one beef rib and that prices have gone up (which I totally get). Still, based on my regular orders over the years, I’ve never received just one rib until now. Either way, I appreciate his transparency.

For context:
• Half chicken combo = ~$11.95
• Half beef rib(S) & chicken combo = ~$16.95

So if you’re expecting multiple beef ribs, you may want to reconsider and go for the chicken or pork ribs instead both still come in hearty portions.

To be clear, this isn’t a complaint just advice for fellow regulars or first-timers who may be surprised by the term beef rib(S)with a single rib. I’ve even added pictures in photos comparing what I received vs. the half chicken combo.

Bottom line: The Pit remains a solid spot with delicious food, generous sides, and great service just be mindful of the current beef rib portions when ordering.“

- tofu soup with ramen (be sure to mention “vegetarian broth” so they don’t use the beef broth)

“My only complaint is that this place is a little expensive for what it is. This is a great family restaurant place. The KBBQ is a bit expensive and I didn't get it. Instead i got Bulgulgi (Kitchen) and some Bimbimbap.

“I have to say, some of the reviews on this establishment is bordering on satire. Recently went here and found the food to be fantastic! The mango chicken was absolutely delicious as was the bourbon chicken and the spicy chicken. Do yourself a favor and actually look at the complaints about this place before you make a decision. I’ll cut you a break and give you an example or two about the complaints. One complaint was about the use of paper bag oppose to plastic bags and another was the color of the food, the color!
