Thanks to the entire Canteen family - and I say FAMILY purposefully as you feel the family atmosphere as soon as you arrive - for hosting our team for dinner last week. We booked out the whole restaurant and they did just what we hoped for: Maritime hospitality, wonderful, genuine service and knock-your-socks off food. The team from across Canada went bananas over the Crobster sandwich. The special welcome from the owners was a lovely touch. The guests raved all the way back across the harbour on the ferry about the wonderful meal from start to finish. “We had excellent service on Canada Day 2024 with our friendly waitress Pal. She was very helpful and kept checking on our party of 12 ages from 3 to 80, to make sure everyone had what they wanted. She put treats on the Robot and had the children go get their treats off the tray on it, which was a highlight for them. We could tell she enjoys waitressing because she does it to perfection. The food was delicious and plated appetizingly, too!“

It can get noisy, due to the folks who flock there for Sunday brunch, so a little extra sound-proofing might be nice, but it's great to see this a gem of a restaurant receive such a vibrant clientele!“

Walking back to my car, I noticed this cute spot, Portland Street Creperie and decided to check it out. So glad I did! I’ll definitely be back. The owner and his staff member of many years greeted me with a warm welcome and good suggestions. It was a bonus to discover Neil shares a love of Kraftwerk! “The other people on here are right about the Tonkotsu Ramen. This probably exceeds most ramen-only shops. I don't usually drink the soup but I find myself almost polishing it off. It's light but filled with umami flavor and the grilled pork is amazing too. They didn't take any shortcuts with the onsen egg too, it has the shoyu flavor it's supposed to and just slightly underdone. The atmosphere is chill and homely and service is quick. You can leave in 15-20 minutes or stay for however long. Definitely coming back and trying other stuff on the menu!“

“Finally tried here on an overcast Saturday in January 2026 (had been to the Quinpool location a few times years ago, never the Hydrostone location, and kept forgetting about their latest move to the old enVie location on Agricola). Arrived maybe about 11:30 and was the only customer at that point. Greeted immediately by staff and told I could sit wherever, so took a table in the small lower section when you first walk in. Cute, little casual spot. Seating total capacity I would guess could be for 25-30, including other dining section, up a few steps, lots of natural light coming in. I had looked at the online menu and seen a few great-looking brunch options. When I got there, there were no brunch items on the hard copy menu, but the staff said he could custom make anything I wanted, so suggested the Bean Burrito with a scrambled egg added. That sounded good to me, and it was! The plate arrived with a side salad, serving of Sriracha, corn chips, scoop of flavored rice with salsa on top, with a hot grilled delicious burrito that had lots of visible spinach. I was very full at the end. Got to chatting with the staff over the course of the meal, when two other customers arrived. Very friendly owner, it turns out. I definitely will be back to try a lot more of their menu! (FYI vegetarian restaurant with vegan options).“

“Very good bowl of ramen. Had the Dan Dan, which was advertised as spicy and numbing from Sichuan pepper but was very mild. Barely any heat or Sichuan peppercorn numbness, but it was still a very flavourful and plentiful bowl of noodles. Excellent pickles, and good bite on the noodles.“
