“This out of the way place is a gem in the rough! Sadly this group of 4 have had 3 previous outings where the food has been mediocre at best. Good restaurants are few in Rural areas even with lots of Tourists visiting. This place is not good it is great. We all had the special Valentine’s day meal.It consisted of soup, or salad, the entree, desert and wine, or champagne. Everything from the unique salads to the desert was prepared to perfection. The Lobster tail was luscious. Roasted and covered with a delicious brown butter. The sides were perfect as well. The 4 of us absolutely were amazed and thrilled to find this restaurant. Service was excellent. Mixed drinks before dinner were also very good. We all highly recommend this place. We will be returning soon. Well worth the 45 minute drive to get there.”
“If you are coming from Keene Valley on Hwy 73, Google maps will say you have reached your destination before you really have. Keep going on 73, bear left, cross the bridge over the creek, and the bakery will be on the left.”
“Loved this place. Was here last year under prior ownership. The new restaurant is excellent. The food was fantastic and plentiful. We ordered the fried mushrooms, fried calamari and a giant pretzel. All were outstanding and the fried mushrooms were a huge serving. Planned on getting dinner, but the apps were so big, we had a couple of cocktails and brews and walked back to our lodge. Our server (Peter) was personable and on top of things.I have no complaints and hope they are still here for our visit next year.”
“The coffee is good, and the food excellent. Had a wonderful carrot muffin that was moist and so flavourful, and the chocolatine was like a chocolate bar wrapped in pastry. The staff were super friendly. Great place to grab your breakfast.”
“So I had a Boss Hog burger, and all i can say is WOW, it's been a while since i had such a great burger. It was perfectly cooked, and it tasted amazing. ? the service was very polite. Not me on the picture, it's my cousin who fell in love with the ”
“I can't say that I have eaten here in a little over 38 years or so. That's when my parents owned and operated this business under a different name. I was reading the reviews and keep seeing negative reviews due to 1. Not being open even when they are supposed to be. A lot of the best Mom and Pop places are actually run by Mom and Dad and kids/teenager's. They CAN'T be open if anyone in their family is sick as they live in the attached house directly behind the dinner. I don't think any customers would want to see or hear the sick person through the kitchen. 2. Paper plates, Plastic utensils and Styrofoam cups. As the teenager that was responsible for bussing and washing all of those plates, utensils and cups; I can say that they are saving time and money. They don't have to pay anyone to do that job and they don't have to wait for those items to be cleaned in order to seat the next guest. Bravo! You found a good way around this financial strain. 3. If you don't live in Wilmington year round, you don't understand the North Country economy. The owners make the majority of their profits during the summer tourist season and some during hunting season. That's about it. The rest of the year is the locals that come in for breakfast or lunch on their way to work. Wilmington is a small town outside and away from all of the large towns in the North Country. During the winter which starts around the end of October and runs until about April; the locals help keep the lights on. So yeah, the owners might seem more friendly to the locals but that's because they are like family (and some may actually be family) when its 10 below Zero and tne owners are doing their best to keep the pipes from freezing or are putting special coverings on the windows so they don't lose heat. It's not that the owners and staff don't appreciate you, because they very truly do. They are just saying hi to the person that pulled their car out of the 1o foot snow drift last winter.”
“We have been wanting to stop here for awhile and today was a beautiful day to get outside. We ate breakfast and everything was delicious. As you can see the portions are big! Our server was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back. We also want to try dinner.”
“Blueberry and Peach pies were divine! Full of fruit, not too sweet, light crispy crust- perfection. Blueberry muffins chock full of berries. Don’t change a thing!!”
“We got a flat tire during our vacation to Lake Placid and the good people at Devin's Garage, especially the sweet lady who answers the phone, went above and beyond for us. She went out of her way to help us and reassure us every step of the way. They really made breaking down in the middle of nowhere, on vacation, a not that bad experience! Very grateful!”
“We found this restaurant the first day of our vacation from NC and ate breakfast there 4 out of 5 mornings. Their coffee, which they roast on location, was delicious! Everything was farm fresh and included real butter, homemade bread and jam and real maple syrup. With the large picture windows, friendly staff and good food, it was a perfect start to our day.”
“I returned to the Adirondack mountains in Jay, NY with my sister Kelly for a return to where we grew up. We were looking for something to eat and we forgot how there isn’t too many places open this time of year but we found Scars Bar. Allison, the owner was fabulous, food was great, and the atmosphere was fabulous. Be sure to make your way out here.”
“We visited on a Saturday in early February. We were fitted with traction devices on our boots for safe walking and headed out on the Waterfall Walk. There were so many beautiful views along the way…Whiteface Mountain, 4 Waterfalls, Ice Formations and a Whirlpool. We roasted marshmallows at the fire pit and relaxed for a while before heading in for a hot chocolate at the cafe. We browsed around the gift shop where you can find many souvenir’s from the region. The staff were all very friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed our time at High Falls Gorge and look forward to returning for snowshoeing. Highly recommend this amazing place in the Adirondack's.”
“Bar and grill at the bottom of the slopes on Whiteface Mountain. Stopped in for a drink. Bartender ( from Poland) was super friendly. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and another customer raved about the pain killer cocktail. It's a deadly concoction of different rums and fruit juices that is sure to cure any aches and pains Whiteface inflicted on you! We enjoyed a Bavarian pretzel with a yummy IPA and jalapeño cheese sauce. Large indoor seating area and lovely outdoor deck with fire pit seating.”
“Lots of gluten free options! Delicious French onion soup (sans bread). Ask about the gluten free options. We loved the decor and the service was incredible. Celiac approved.Dietary restrictions: Great for gluten free. Celiac approved”
“It's like sitting in your mom's kitchen. And the Pies are to die for..... OMG they were amazing I bought a whole blueberry and my husband got a whole pecan pie... The beat he has had in a while... And made from scratch... Super ”
“We’ve been here twice - President’s Day weekend 2023 & 2024. The restaurant is run by a husband and wife and is an awesome fine. Our party of kids to grandparents have always enjoyed our food and the server (who happens to be co-owner) is welcoming & attentive. Coming from major cities on the East Coast, this restaurant could easily hold its own in any of them.”
“Stopped in for lunch after hiking recently. My burger was delicious and cooked perfectly. The fries were some of the best I’ve had. Will definitely be back.”
