“I’d been waiting weeks to finally visit Black Walnut and it completely lived up to the hype. We had cocktails in the front near the perfectly curated home store before dinner and were pleasantly surprised with how delicious they were. Highly recommended the melon Negroni and the mint tea cassis cocktail. The actual dining room is small so I’d highly recommend making a reservation, also open concept kitchen which in theory was exciting but the heat wave kept us from enjoying the added heat. Anyway, the food was incredible - do not skip over the blistered snap peas they are truly incredible. Overall we loved our meal and will be back!”
“This gem is something special and worth the visit. The cider is fantastic and the food is made with alot of love. The staff has always been super cool whenever I’ve been there.”

“Found it through Google maps - great atmosphere, amazing staff - very friendly - You seat yourself wherever you want and get the menu from the bar, place order at the bar and they bring you the food to your table.
Tried their homemade sodas - the ginger one was perfect! Not too sweet. Tried the trout, fried chicken and Lobster Mac and cheese. Both the trout and Mac and cheese were incredible!
Pricing was great! If you are in the vicinity, you should definitely give it a try!”
“Everything on the menu is wonderful and made by hand. This is a micro-bakery, not a coffee shop. That means they don't serve full breakfasts or giant cappuccinos. They serve fresh bread, alongside other delicious baked goods. Everything is made daily. Loaves upon loaves of freshly baked tangy sourdough, pullman loaves for a week's worth of sandwiches, Japanese milk bread (my fave- it's so sweet), and a selection of cookies and smaller items that change weekly. If you are lucky enough to be there when they have the basque mini-cheesecakes, grab one of those too! Callicoon has the largest farmers market in Sullivan County, and a trip to the Sunday market isn't complete without hitting the Callicoon Marketplace for dry goods and pantry items...and a week's worth of bread from Roger That.”

“Sure do miss Frank. Frank knew my Dad before I was born, I have had great times at the Do Drop starting when I was a kid. I remember Frank said, stay out of the Bar area until you turned 18. Frank was a great guy. I loved the pickled eggs. I'll never forget, we stopped in to see Frank one day while riding our 4 wheelers. There was 6 of us. We emptied out the pickled egg jar. Went back the next afternoon and had more. There's a Rattle Snake skin on the pool room wall. My brother Bobby gave the snake to Frank back in the early 60's. It's fangs were 2" long! I wonder if the skin is still there. Frank was always happy to see me, and I him. Frank once told me he worked for the O&W RR. Back in the middle 90's I bought a book that focust on the O&W RR, Frank asked if I would get a book for him after viewing my book. I did, he was happy and so was I. I looked at the book recently and thought of Frank and smiled. Time marches on and waits for no one.Update on 11-23-18I made a trip up from Virginia this weekend to visit family. I stopped in at the Do Drop Inn and paid my respect to Jeanie. We shared old stories gave hugs we even shed some tears as well. I took a photograph of Jeanie with the snake skin in the background. I’m so glad I did so in at the inn Frank ran from the 1930’s.UPDATE, I made another trip from Virginia in January, 2022. Stopped in to say hello to Jeanie. I could believe my eyes I met Jimmy Vitale at the Do Drop Inn. We went to school in Hancock, Jimmy was a few years a head of me in school. We talked about the 67 GTO he had at the time, very nice car. It was Gold with black interior. My Brother Bobby worked for Jimmy’s Dad Carmie Vitale. I even got to see Jerry Bolster at the old Grand Union store, Jerry worked for Vitale Lumber for years.”

“Awesome place and experience. We arrived with 5 kids and they treated us really well. Foodwise, it's a great place. Not only that: I lost my cell phone there, I tracked it down, I called them and they sent it home. They didn't let me pay for the stamp. THANKS !”
“Visiting from out of town and having the cheeseburger with fries, that was most excellent. I've never had a burger with spinach instead of lettuce before. Fantastic idea!! Very pleased and the Pennies service was definitely with a smile 😃!”
