“If you’re craving authentic Guyanese food in Queens, Shanta’s is easily one of the best spots around. Every visit has been a flavorful journey, the food is always fresh, well-prepared, and hits all the right notes of comfort and nostalgia.

Unlike some places in NY that claim to serve authentic Guyanese cuisine, Shanta’s delivers the real deal. It truly brings a little piece of home right here to New York.

The staff has been easy to communicate with in my experience, and the vibes are generally pleasant. That said, customer service could use a bit of polish. One recommendation would be to implement a numbering system to manage the crowd, it does get packed (because the food’s that good), and a more organized system would go a long way.

Still, Shanta’s continues to earn its place as a neighborhood favorite. Highly recommend if you’re after legit Guyanese eats and a reminder of home.“

Each dish had its own layer of perfection with unique flavors and exquisite presentation. I’d say a restaurant on its way to becoming Michelin…..bravo! “Today, I decided to stop and try this restaurant. I walked in and asked about the menu, the lady at the bar help ( very beautiful). I decided on a chicken roti. When I got home and opened my package I was surprised at the size (huge) and the taste ( delicious). I will be back. 🥰“

“The food was great I went during food week. I had the salmon with garlic mash and broccoli. The meal also came with dessert and an appetizer. You can add a glass of wine for 5 dollars. For the appetizer I had the birria empanada my cousin had the island shrimp I believed it was called. The shrimp👍🏾👍, I wasn't crazy about the empanada. I would definitely revisit this place. “I walked in on a Saturday around 12pmto get oxtail and their customer service was amazing. I got oxtail, rice &peas with oxtail patty. They were both really good, the patty was very flaky and sweet. I sat to eat and the oxtail was really good , they used a balsamic rice and I loved every bite.

“The food was good, but they really need to do better about customer service. We had a party of Nine that wanted to dine-in. We were given no help only told us to put the table back after we moved them together ourselves to seat us. Luckily we dine in because we was missing a full order of Rasta pasta. My mom order okra and fish. We were missing the okra so they refunded me a dollar. As we were leaving the young lady approached me saying they gave her pumpkin that she didn’t order or want and asked for the dollar back. I was very surprised about that. As I said customer service was not up to standard.“

Chuletas Can Can: love it. This is a must get. Insane flavor and crunch and juiciness. I loved putting the meat in the goat curry sauce. That’s the trick chef Mike taught us!! I can’t describe how amazing this is.

Goat: Super flavorful, a bit of spice, great great flavor. We got extra curry sauce which was amazing

Plantain with eggs & caviar: my husband was obsessed with this. It was okay to me but he loved it!!

Pepper sauce: asked for some of this on the side. Yes!!!! Amazing scotch bonnet flavor

Bar Kabawa bites

Solomon Gundy: Wow. Wow. Get it.

Pickled Okra: I love okra and this was next level

Daiquiri: well balanced drink over shaved ice. Fave drink of the night

This was a great culinary tour of the Caribbean

The staff was amazing by the way. We sat by chef Mike who was so personable and clearly passionate about what he does. Super fun and high energy. He was truly impressed by the amount of food we ordered and our ability to finish it.

We ate here and they had a wide variety of food options from doubles, cook up, bake and salt fish and various curries paired with The best tasting roti I have had in a long time.
