“I can’t recommend the Alternative Baker enough! The lemon cakes, boules, focaccia, and egg sandwiches are all to die for, plus whatever fresh goodies Essell has in the case. This is a true from scratch bakery that uses the highest quality ingredients available. We’ve been coming here for the past 10 or so years and love everything Essell creates… so much so that we asked him to make our wedding cake for 200 people! He was great to work with and put a creative spin on our cake… 3 tiers, 4 layers, each with a different flavor of frosting. It was by the far the best cake I’ve ever eaten. A trip to Rosendale is not complete without a visit to The Alternative Baker! And if you’re lucky enough to get warm bread out of the oven, do yourself a favor and get two loaves because one will be gone on the car ride home.

“Beyond wonderful! Concerning prices… this bakery is priceless! Considering how inflation is out of control everywhere, it’s a miracle they are able to maintain at their prices. This is an incredibly exceptional bakery, especially if you require vegan specialty desserts. Macarons? Wow! “Usually offers good bread. But is very wishy washy on their "old bread sales" prices. If it's a day old it should be discounted - period. (I have worked for almost four years in a bakery) This is being aggregated by the fact that I was not notified of this pricing structure when I asked for day old bread (with the specific intend to get a discount for something that is not fresh and won't last me as long). Had I been informed about this, I would have just bought the same bread *fresh* - for the *same price*. I feel that the omission of this fact is even done purposely to mislead customers.“

“I stopped in real quick to see what gf goodies they had and picked up some bagels. I thought they may be too hard but they softened right up in the microwave and I toasted them and the consistency/texture were great. They're like English muffin size and perfect for making your McMuffin sandwiches. Over the years I've tried merideths cookies and breads at farmers markets or Adams fair acre farms. They definitely are healthier gluten free breads overall but there are lighter options in there too. Anyone who bakes gf holds a special place in my heart because it's not easy finding fresh gf bread or making it yourself is difficult so support merideth!!!
